Between GHardy and TCrawford, I would choose GHardy every day.

I have to see how well Gregory and DLaw play to see how vital TCrawford actually is.

GHardy can slide to 3T and Russell, Coleman and others can fill in for almost nothing.

I think fans need to keep in mind that no D-lineman is going to have to play 1,000 snaps. The max is going to be in the area of 600. That being said, you can't pay a 600-snap lineman at the same rate as you would a 1,000 snap D-lineman.

Hardy will be the best player Dallas has on defense. This is going to be like adding Charles Haley in the 90's .

Joke post?

We all expect good things from Crawford. But production is king. If Crawford wants that kind of deal he has to wait until next year to sign for that.

My post was half joking. I think they can get him cheaper, but I think that 3 years from now, this contract would be looking peachy.

I definitely don't want him going out there and playing lights out and commanding a Dareus type contract.

Cam Heyward for PITT just got 6/59m. He is a 3-4 DE but plays a similar game. He had 7.5 sacks last year and a ton of pressures. Like Crawford he didn't do much his first couple years.

While similar the market there is driven by Watt.

That's exactly right. Thats about what I would expect for him to get if he had a really good season from FA. 5 for 20 is about what he's earned so far. If the Cowboys want to lock him up I imagine its somewhere right in the middle of that. 5 for 30-35 with 15-18 guaranteed would be a nice middle ground. It saves the Cowboys some money if he blows up, but gets Crawford some security and a better payday than if he was a FA right now. It also allows the Cowboys an out if he never reaches that potential. If he wants 10m/yr he won't be getting that extension imo.

you ever hear of this thing called the CAP?

IMO that deal was not right from the start(Jay R), it was really slanted towards the cowboys, guys have to feel legitimate and not taken advantage of during their stay at Valley Ranch. Having the media rubbing it in his face about what a great deal the cowboys got did not sit well with Jay and we paid for that in the end with a real cancer in the locker room.
I am a fan and these are real people not Madden. We are currently getting some great value because of the rookie signings when these expire the talent needs to feel like we value their assets and are not only looking for bargains to resign. If we get value both sides are happy and so is the locker room. Well sounds good we both know something else will pop up like egos and such (WR T Owens). It's a moving target and makes for great speculations.
The CAP is part of the game we have to learn to deal with it like New England has in the past and currently. I can see the boys changing to be more in alignment with the Patriot way.

Who is gonna get these big deals?
Tank and Gregory are a long ways from new deals and hardy is probably not gonna be here next year unless it's a team friendly deal
I think the next big deal might come from the WR rank, T Will with a good year will demand a very ego smoothing contract. At some point a discussion needs to take place about Escobar vs Witten, if Escobar breaks out that discussion moves quickly to the top of the list. Frederick is going to set the market for centers so start counting your pennies and nickels or plan on drafting a replacement. That Smith deal at LT really helped do not expect to see that again with the rest of the lineman.

Agree on Escobar and Fred and I really like twill but I don't think you can have 3 wr's on second contracts. When you have a very expensive oline as we will soon have, then it's hard to have every other position on second contracts
My guess is we let twill walk and sign Fred, Escobar still has some things to prove but if he does we will sign him
I really like twill and all the body catching bashing here is silly. The guy performs but all your starters can't be on second contracts and I suspect he will be one that doesn't get a second deal

Gosselin: Why Cowboys DT Tyrone Crawford is 'luckiest' guy in NFL

When Tony Dungy left the Minnesota staff in 1996 to become the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, taking his defensive scheme with him to Florida, there were two certainties in the mind of Pro Bowl defensive tackle John Randle of the Vikings.

First, Randle knew the Vikings were going to miss their defensive coordinator. Minnesota led the NFL in takeaways in 1995 and finished in the top five in both defense and sacks.

Second, Randle knew there was a defensive lineman with the Buccaneers who was going to benefit greatly from Dungy's arrival.

"The guy who is going to play that three-technique for Tony ... he doesn't realize it yet, but he's going to be the luckiest guy in the NFL," Randle said.

That guy was Warren Sapp, who used Dungy's Tampa 2 scheme as a springboard to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As did Randle in Minnesota.

And now the luckiest guy in the NFL is Tyrone Crawford.

Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli was Dungy's defensive line coach with the Buccaneers and he took the Tampa 2 scheme with him to subsequent coaching stops in Detroit and Chicago before his arrival in Dallas in 2013. But a training camp Achilles injury prevented Crawford from lining up for Marinelli that season.

Crawford returned in 2014 but the Cowboys remained a pass rush away from the Super Bowl. They have since added Pro Bowler Greg Hardy and All-America Randy Gregory to Marinelli's end rotation. So the edge rush should be stout.

But what the Cowboys need is for the inside pass rush to be stout. They're going to need more than the three sacks Crawford gave them last year. This defense is set up for the three-technique to dominate â” as Sapp did in Tampa and Randle in Minnesota.

Of the 12 best sack seasons by defensive tackles in NFL history, Randle owns three of them and Sapp two. Randle posted 151/2 sacks in 1997, 131/2 in 1994 and 121/2 in 1993. Sapp had 161/2 sacks in 2000 and 121/2 in 1999. Sapp also was the last tackle named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1999.

"The three-technique has to be your best athlete because he's going against both guards," said Randle, the pride of Mumford, Texas. "That guy, that position, can be a terror for those guards. And because of where you line up, you're closer [to the quarterback] than the ends are. You can get in the quarterback's face and not allow him the time to pick your defense apart."

The three-technique always lines up on the outside shoulder of a guard. The nose tackle in this scheme lines up on the opposite shoulder of the center. The three-technique can play either side and will go where he has the most favorable matchup on passing downs. If he lines up against the right guard, the nose tackle will line up on the left shoulder of the center.
