This is the big truth. The assumption is we would be signing all kinds of FAs if we just had the cap room. Maybe just maybe the reason we have only done just enough to get under the cap is because there is no one we want value wise at this time. If there is at some point this off season watch how fast we find "room" under the cap. I know it's popular to portray the front office as a blind squirrel trying to find a nut but that just isn't reality. They do have some idea what they are doing.
WONG! that's the point of only having 1 playoff win in going on 17 years. they don't know what what they are doing. and the record the last 17 years prove it.

You assume that just because you get a couple of high picks that it means we move on OUT of the dark ages and not further into it by drafting the wrong players.

That is a big assumption for anyone to make.

I don't know why ufc would think that Romo would fetch a 1 and a 2? I mean, all ufc does is think Romo stinks like hog crap, yet he thinks he's good enough for high draft picks.

No logic...

It's better than overpaying yet another player for years to come thus sealing our fate in mediocrity. Romo showed against the Commanders that he doesn't have what it takes to lead.

I would like to start building this team up from the inside out. Much like the 49'ers have done. So what, we have a bad year or 2 in the rebuilding phase, it's better than kidding ourselves thinking we are a player or 2 away from going all the way.

The reason we have been stuck in mediocrity is Jerry holding on to players for way too long.

Yet you think the Boyz can trade him for high draft picks?

I am not sure I have much hope in either approach, based on who is running the show, but if I had to pick one, I would pick holding onto the few stars we have and building around them.

Basic math for me, the less they have to do at important positions, the less the will screw it up.

So in your opinion you can in fact squeeze blood out of a turnip?

It's not a reason you should not look for one, if you have people running the organization that have a plan on what they would do if they blew it up (trade romo, ware etc).

I see no indication of such ability, even Romo was a semi fluke, those things don't pan out so often.

It is a simple probability statement for me, do we have a better chance of finding the pieces to put around Romo/Ware in the next 4 or 5 years.

Or do we have faith in the people running the show to blow it up and then know what to do and succeed at doing it by replacing your most skilled positions.

And remember, it was not actually anybody on this team who made the call on Romo. It was actually Payton who did it.

As much as I like and respect Romo, if he is wanting a big time contract that will cripple the rest of the team, I'd say trade him. Yes, he is still playing at a high level, but he is also getting older and his better years are most likely behind him. Not to mention that the way the season ended is not exactly the best way to bargain for a huge payday. I know many are afraid that the Cowboys will fall into the dark ages if Romo is gone, but you can't let one player handcuff the rest of the team. Besides, it's not like we are winning a bunch of playoff games with him. If a team like the Bills are willing to give up valuable picks for Romo, do it. Take those picks, start building up the OL this year, gut it out with Orton, and look to draft a franchise QB next year when the market is ripe for the picking.

I don't think the Cowboys are in any hurry to get either one done, IMO. I think they want to drag this out so that they can use the lack of cap room as an excuse for not attempting to fix the problems on the OL right now.

They'll wait a week or two then probably get them both done and go bargain shopping again. They'll put duck tape on the problems on the O-line and on the D-line depth. That will be their brilliant solution to things.

Well I'm glad to hear this.

It would be extra ******** to be in a rush to extend a QB who has played a major role in helping this team miss the playoffs the last two years

I'm guessing he forgot the 7 game stretch where Romo was arguably the best QB in the league (led in TDs and yards) and the only reason any game after week 8 mattered at all.

Guess you forget the first eight where he threw more picks than anyone in the league....it goes both ways.

They finished 8-8 and out of the playoffs.

Right and he corrected his off start. That's all you can ask for.

I know you weren't addressing me but you're way out of line.

Romo was at or near the top in the league in 4th quarter game winning drives last year. If you want to focus everything on one game, you may be just a tad short-sighted. His point was clearly that if not for him it would have been much worse. Not at all accepting 8-8, but making an observation.

I judge QB's based on WINS and if the team is in the playoffs and romo is failing in both categories

The End

Well...in the six seasons that he was the team's primary starter, the Cowboys have made the playoffs 3 times and have never had a losing season. 4 winning seasons and 2 .500 seasos.
He has one of the better won-loss records as a QB in the league and the team has made the playoffs half the time he has started.

I'm sure you'll come back and re-up your criteria...but just saying.

If that's truly what you base one player off of, then you're extremely ignorant about football.

Romo is a major tease. Yeah he played better towards the end and just when you want to start believing again, Washington happens. Something always happens.

Romo has to be one of the most frustrating players to watch.
