Instant Armchair Reaction: We’re in trouble
October 19th, 2008 by Joe Rodriguez

As I write this the game is still going, its the 3rd Quarter and the Cowboys are absolutely abysmal, this team is in serious trouble, serious. Wade has lost this team, they are not playing. This looks like a 5-11 team at best. Let the drama begin in Dallas, it starts and ends with Wade Phillips. I’m going to put this out there…Wade Phillips will be canned by the bye week, at the latest.
Here’s whats going to happen:
The Cowboys take a beating and lose to the Rams, we drop to 4-3. Next week the Bucs have their turn on beating us, 4-4, we go to the meadowland and the Giants crush us 4-5. We hit the bye week and Phillips is given the boot, and Jason Garrett becomes the Interim Head Coach. Jerry got the pieces in place for Garrett and he’ll be given his shot to right the ship. Either way you cut it, this team is in horrible shape. The party is over in Dallas, and if Garrett isn’t given the shot to turn it around, the Jerry better be calling Bill Cowher behind the scenes, and that’s for real.

Sounds pretty accurate to me.

The problem is that Garrett hasn't held up his end of the bargain either, so I'm not filled with confidence that things would improve if he were given the job.

But it may be a better thing to send the team a collective wake-up call that "good enough" is not longer good enough and few messages would be clearer than 'canning the cupcake'.

As for Cowher, I think he's on Jerry's list already.

Maybe another jetway meeting and a deal similar to the one that brought the other Bill to Dallas.

Jones needs something to excite fans and fill up that new stadium.

A trophy would have been nice, but a high-profile, Super Bowl-winning coach would be a decent consolation prize.

Jason, next year, would be yet another mistake as HC.

same old, same old

If he gave up play calling as HC he'd have a better chance however but you'd have more of Jerruh's cronies and less football guys.

His "offense" has been mostly offensive with a collection of (overpaid & enabled) superstars if you remove a few big plays from Romo.

Jerry setting up the pieces for RJ in advance is part of the problem IMO.

Who we gonna blame when Red Jesus doesn't do any better?

I agree with this where is Big Reds offensive genious when times get tough? There still has to be something to work with.....ALA running to the right instead of the left more.

I think Garrett gets to pick up Wade's pieces after the bye week and that will make things worse instead of better.

Then Jones will look for the next head guy and make Cowher the league's highest-paid coach.

Then Dom Capers will come in like he should have this year to run the defense and Team Garrett will probably pack up and leave town.

You think that will happen, or hope that will happen? :)

Cowher would be fine with me (although Capers is still horribly overrated), but I seriously doubt Jerry fires Garrett after all the money he's paid him. I think Jerry looks at a situation like the Skins and thinks he needs him a younger coach like that.

And I still say that even Cowher won't be effective if Jerry won't get out of his way.

To get their swagger back they will need to win both games. I'm sure we have all heard the story about PSL sales to the new stadium r not doing well. Jerry needs a major turn around b4 his finances force him into drastic measures.

Here's my only Question to Garrett being head Coach. If he is the answer wouldn't the Offense be playing well and the only leave the Defense to be struggling along with Special teams? I want him to do well but I am skeptical

Both I guess. I'm not looking forward to the team failing of course, just that I have little faith in them getting things turned around.

I wouldn't expect Garrett to get fired, but for him to be so offended about not getting the HC gig in '09 that he and his brothers pack up and move on.

I'd expect Cowher to get the "Bill Parcells' deal and get to call the shots like Big Bill did.

The one difference would be that hopefully Cowher can still relate to today's NFL players and schemes whereas I feel that Parcells could not.

Gotta agree...The options, at this point, for the remainder of the season are not very encouraging...And, I'm not convinced that there is a fix in play that will see them ultimately succeed this season...I'm not a big believer in the 'flip a switch' dynamic for sports.

On the other hand, if they aren't going to get the prize this season, next best thing is to bring someone in who can renew the enthusiasm in the new park.

Let's face it, at 4-3, this could get uglier

Where ya been, Big D? :)

I even texted that in to Galloway, and he's been using it every day on his show. Funny stuff.

Superpunk is now nationwide... Not that he wasn't before.

My speakers on my PC went kaput a month ago and i have replaced them so i haven't been listening to the Ticket or 103.3. I honestly hadn't heard it but it's pretty damn funny.
