[ABQCOWBOY] What do you think of Cory Lynch Drew? I really hear great things about him

[Drew_Boylhart] I think Cory Lynch is a big-time sleeper in this draft. I have a talent grade on him of 3rd round in my profile. I think he'll end up going 4th-5th rounds, but I like him a lot and think he has great potential.

[ABQCOWBOY] What do you think of Forte? Can he be a FB or HBack?

[Drew_Boylhart] Forte's a tailback and should be a very good one. Can probably play in both spread and a 2-back offense. A bit under-rated at this point.

[FuzzyLumpkins] Is Tyrell johnson really that good or is him being ranked so high on a lot of people's boards more a product of a weak safety class?

[Drew_Boylhart] Tyrell Johnson is definitely the latter -- a product of a weak S class. I personally think Johnson has 2nd day talent and therefore, he's being rated too high right now. He should be good, just longer LTI than most think.

[dbair1967] Felix Jones- 3rd or 4th RB selected and where?

[Drew_Boylhart] Felix JOnes -- I have a 2nd round grade on him because I think he has a lot to learn about the tailback position. I seem to be in the minority on this, but I think he needs more development.

[dbair1967] How many CB's in 1st rd? and which ones will it be?

[Drew_Boylhart] CB's in the 1st round: McKelvin (Troy), Cromartie (Tenn St), Jenkins (S Florida), Talib (Kansas) and Flower (Va Tech) or Cason (Arizona). Therefore, 5 possibly 6.

[Shady12] Ok then, so how good do you think Kenny Phillips actually is? Would he be one of the top 1-2 safety prospects in most drafts?

[Drew_Boylhart] Kenny Phillips has the talent, but his aggressiveness and instincts are not very good for a S that has played as many downs as he has. I think he'll go in the 2nd round, but I have a 4th round talent grade on him.

[ABQCOWBOY] Drew, have you evaluated Lokie of UT? Can he be a DE in a 34 or even a NT in rotation? His agilities and strength are pretty good IMO.

[Drew_Boylhart] Lokie (Texas)...I have evaluated him, but I just don't see the athletic talent on the field that he shows in workouts. At best, he's a rotation DL. May be taken late in the draft or as a rookie FA.

[Shady12] On Felix Jones- I don't think he's a bad player but think he's overrated as a potential first rounder. For example, I don't see why he'd be rated over Jamaal Charles..What makes Jones a better prospect than Charles..or do you disagree that he is?

[Drew_Boylhart] Jones v. Charles...these players are about even in my mind. Jones has better balance and doesn't get knocked off-stride as easily as Charles. Both need to learn better RB techniques.

[FuzzyLumpkins] What aboput Anwaun Molden hes another guy thats shooting up a lof of draft boards?

[Drew_Boylhart] Molden...I don't have any film on him and I do all my profiles from this. Therefore, unfortunately, I cannot give you an educated opinion of his abilities.

[dbair1967] probably already answered before I got in, but Cowboy picks at 22, 28 and 61?

[ABQCOWBOY] Mike McGlynn, can he be a day one starter at Guard? Can he play any Center and how do you rate him on your board?

[Drew_Boylhart] McGlynn...I consider him 1st round talent. He can play any one of the line positions. I think he's an outstanding player and extremely under-rated right now. He's currently projected to go in the 2nd, but may squeeze into the 1st to the Giants.

[Goldenrichards83] Would we be better off drafting a every down back like a Ray Rice or a 3rd down back like Chris johnson or Felix Jones

[Drew_Boylhart] Ray Rice could be a starting RB or change-up back -- I would pick him over the other 2.

[ABQCOWBOY] If you compared him to a guy like Albert (Mike McGlynn) how close would they be?

[Drew_Boylhart] McGlynn and Albert are 2 different styles of OL. McGlynn has better techniques, although Albert may have more natural athletic ability. McGlynn can play C -- Albert cannot.

[Shady12] What do you think about DeSean Jackson? Isn't he too light to be a great player outside of the return game?

[Drew_Boylhart] Jackson -- I'm not a big fan of this kid. I don't think he likes to go over the middle very much and that he struggles at times running all the routes that a #1 WR will need to run.

[FuzzyLumpkins] How about 3-4 NT prospects in this draft? Names like Bryant and Okam pop around here for obvious reasons but are there any other mid to late NT prospects we should be looking at?

[Drew_Boylhart] Mid-late NT prospects: Red Bryant (Tx A&M), Ahtyda Ruben (Iowa St), DeMario Pressley (NC State) and Nick Hayden (Wisconsin)

[dbair1967] how do you compare McFadden with say Peterson and another guy he's often compared to, Eric Dickerson?

[Drew_Boylhart] McFadden is nothing like Peterson -- I don't know where that comes from. McFadden's running style is similar to Gayle Sayers and OJ Simpson. Mcfadden is a long strider who runs BY people, not THROUGH people. He's also an excellent receiver.

[ABQCOWBOY] Drew, how good is Mayo? Can he play ILB in a 34? Is he a 4 Down LB?

[Drew_Boylhart] Mayo...I consider him the best LB in this draft because he can play ILB or OLB and because he's much better against the run than Rivers. He can play in any system in my opinion.

[Shady12] Do you have anyone in mind that could be a Marques Colston type..a low round guy who comes out of nowhere and is really good as a rookie?

[Drew_Boylhart] I think Marcus Monk (WR Arkansas) will be similar to Colston. He'll probably go later in the draft, but I consider him a 1st round talent.

[FuzzyLumpkins] How much of an injury risk is Jonathon Stewart. He seems willing and able to play through them but seems to do it a lot. Is he still wortha first round selection?

[Drew_Boylhart] Jonathan Stewart is definitely worth a 1st round pick. Any RB that learns to play hurt and play at the level he's been able to is worth a look in the 1st round.

[ABQCOWBOY] Drew, would it be fair to say that McFadden is a bigger version of a player like Metcalf out of Texas? Could be used in the same ways offensively?

[Drew_Boylhart] McFadden can be used similar to the way Reggie Bush is used or he could be your starting tailback. That's the versatility you get with a player like McFadden.

[theogt] Drew, do you seen any team other than Dallas interested in Felix Jones in the 1st round? In other words, if Dallas doesn't take him, will he likely fall to the 2nd?

[Drew_Boylhart] I'm not convinced Dallas is as interested in Jones as everyone else is. I think Felix Jones will go in the 2nd round...but then again, I've been wrong before, especially where the other Jones (Jerry) is concerned! :D

[ABQCOWBOY] Drew, In your opinion, is it worth moving up into the top 10 or 15 in this draft or would you see the value in a move down into the second if Dallas doesn't like 22 or 28? Who would move up for QB?

[Drew_Boylhart] If not happy at 22/28, would stay at 22, but be flexible about moving down out of 28. Carolina is one of the teams interested in QB's late first round as are Kansas City, Chicago, Miami and Atlanta. Falcons have 6 picks on the 1st three rounds.

[Goldenrichards83] Do you think the Cowboys will look at another pass rusher being that Greg Ellis won't be here forever?

[Drew_Boylhart] Absolutely, Dallas should look at another pass-rusher. Calais Campbell (Miami) and a sleeper, Jason Jones (Eastern Michigan), who in the 2nd round, I would jump all over to try and get.

[theogt] What are you feelings on how the Malcolm Kelly situation played out over the last few weeks?

[Drew_Boylhart] What happened with Malcolm Kelly never changed my opinion of his ability from what I saw on film. When the ball's in the air, he wants it and will go for it and I want that kind of receiver on my team.

[ABQCOWBOY] Drew, do you think that Carpenter fits OLB in a 43 well? He has not shown the ability to play ILB in a 34. Trade with a 43 team might be a good move. Maybe Saints or somebody.

[Drew_Boylhart] Carpenter...yes I agree. He's a strong-side LB in a 4-3. I think he struggles in a 3-4 and is unsure of his responsibilities. If you give him the strong side, he knows what to do and will do it well.

[ajk23az] What do you think of Marcus Monk?

[Drew_Boylhart] Monk is a very under-rated player. I think he'll be a heck of a WR at the next level.

[FuzzyLumpkins] What kind of role do you project Peyton Hillis to in the NFL?

[Drew_Boylhart] Peyton Hillis could end up being a power tailback for a team. In the right system (2 TE system), he could wind up being a great player. Downside is in the wrong system, could end up just being a FB and a part-time player.

[ABQCOWBOY] Drew, how do you evaluate Bowman of OSU? Is he another Mike Irvin or is he another Woods from OkSt.?

[theogt] Matt Flynn has a sub-60 completion % and a 6.7 YPA his senior season, despite having a slew of good receivers. What specifically makes you think he's a 1st round talent?

[Drew_Boylhart] Matt Flynn has excellent leadership qualities along with a solid arm. He understands the pressure of big games and a big program. He also knows how to read defenses. For these reasons, I think he has 1st round talent.

[theogt] Andre Caldwell had perhaps the best showing of any WR at the Combine...do you think his workout numbers reflect his athleticism on the field?

[Drew_Boylhart] I think the combine numbers reflect Caldwell's athleticism, but I think he has a lot to learn about the position of WR and what is required of this position in the NFL technique-wise.

[theogt] Ditto for James Hardy...do you think Hardy "plays" at a 4.4 40, 6.8 3-cone type athleticism on the field?

[Drew_Boylhart] Hardy, no -- I don't think he plays at this speed. He looked to be a 4.6-4.7 guy. I didn't expect him to run this fast. Hardy's positives are size, hands and desire.

[ABQCOWBOY] Drew, can you tell me about any of these 4 players. Lex Hilliard RB Montana, Jalene Parmele RB Toledo, Jan Jorgensen LB BYU? I like them all as Sleepers.

[Drew_Boylhart] Cowboy...sorry, don't have any film on any of these. According to the Value Board, Parmele is the only one with a shot at the draft in the 7th. Others would be FA's, but if talented, could still make a team.

[Shady12] Ok you've covered a lot of receivers so far..what is your opinion on Sweed?

[Drew_Boylhart] Sweed...he reminds me a lot of Plaxico Burress. He seems to play to the level of his competition. I like more aggressive WR's. He has good talent and if he gets serious and focused, he could be a good WR.

[dbair1967] Drew, whats the 3 highest rated players you've ever graded, and wht 3 guys did you rate high that surprised you by busting?

[Drew_Boylhart] 3 highest players ever -- I'd have to really think back and research. Robert Gallery would be one that I thought would perform much better because I thought he had 1st pick talent. Another one would be Reggie Williams (Washington) and Rashaun Woods.

[FuzzyLumpkins] Youre obviously a big film guy but how much weight do you put on other evaluation tools like measurables, statisitcs and whatnot?

[Drew_Boylhart] I am definitely a big film guy. The measurables are helpful, but I use those to reconfirm what I see on film. My expertise really is more in how well I think their past performance contributes to their potential for success in the NFL.

[Shady12] How about giving your biggest bust of the draft and your sleeper special?

[Drew_Boylhart] Biggest bust for this year (in my opinion) may be: Jeff Otah (Pitt). Sleeper special is Marcus Monk (WR-Arkansas).

[FuzzyLumpkins] What do you see on film that makes you like Monk so much?

[Drew_Boylhart] Monk...big strong, excellent blocker. Has great hands and looks to be a good teammate. Runs routes well, shows football intelligence.

[ABQCOWBOY] How good is Quentin Groves. Could he be better then Gholston?

[Drew_Boylhart] Quentin Groves is a hell of a player. Injuries are a big issue with him. Gholston can play DE in a 4-3 and could be successful in any system. Groves is more of a LB that can rush the passer and is limited to OLB.

[ABQCOWBOY] Is WR the biggest Miss positon, outside of QB, when trying to evaluate NFL talent?

[Drew_Boylhart] WR is the most over-rated position when evaluating talent because too many people are enamored with pure speed, which isn't always indicative of success at the WR position.

[theogt] Do you think there's any truth or validity to this supposed new draft chart that some teams are floating around?

[Drew_Boylhart] No validity (in my opinion) to the new draft chart. In 2 years with a new contract agreement, will probably be a moot point.

[TwoDeep3] have you addressed cornerback as yet?

[Drew_Boylhart] Yes, addressed CB's in regards to the number that will be drafted in the 1st round...see the transcript for more details. Thanks!

[theogt] No Ray Rice love on the sleeper pick this chat?

[Drew_Boylhart] Yes, I really like Ray Rice but he's no longer a sleeper.

[dbair1967] is Bowman from oklahoma St worth drafting now?

[Drew_Boylhart] Bowman...yes, he's still worth drafting. If you'll just admit to doing it and stop doing it, you should be fine in the NFL.

[FuzzyLumpkins] What about Devin Thomas. Did he show up well on tape in terms of player development or is he a big concern for a one hit wonder?

[Drew_Boylhart] Probably take a couple of more questions. Devin Thomas has good overall athletic talent, but he has a lot to learn about the WR position and his LTI is much longer than the average 1st round pick. I have a 4th round talent grade on him for that reason.

[dbair1967] Drew- you run the Cowboys...do you pay MBIII 50-60mils or trade up for McFadden, then trade MBIII next yr

[Drew_Boylhart] Pay Barber or trade up?? Barber is a proven RB in the NFL. I would prefer to go with a known commodity than to pay that much for unknown talent. That's just me, even though I'm really high on McFadden.

[theogt] Another Devin Thomas question, I've read that he didn't run a lot of "pro style" routes? Is that true? If so, what does that mean for him?

[Drew_Boylhart] Thomas -- yes, that's what I wrote in my profile of him. It just means that it will take him longer to learn this at the NFL level which is why his LTI is longer.

[ABQCOWBOY] Guys, that's it. Drew unfortunatly has other commitments he must see to. No more questions.

[Drew_Boylhart] Hey guys...sorry, gotta run, but again, always feel free to email me, Rob or any other staff at THR by going to the site or the blog. Hope you guys have a great draft...and don't forget to read post-draft results on THR!!

[ABQCOWBOY] Drew, many thanks from CowboyZone to the Huddle. You guys are great. I encourage all our users to check out there site. www.theHuddlereport.com

I don't see how Barber has any trade value without a contract.

Boylehardt is pretty much clueless.

By the time this thread slides off to obscurity your going to have many posters expressing those exact feelings.

I appreciate the effort by this board admins to provide the members with different points of view and educational opportunities and I'll leave it at that.

assuming he signs his one yr tender and plays this yr, you could franchise him and trade him next yr...right now next yrs RB crop doesnt appear anywhere near what this yrs has been...so chances are good a team that really wants a RB would give us good value to get him

hopefully we find a way to keep him, but what he is asking for right now is kinda off the charts...I'd make him earn it this yr before just offering it up

I don't know. Not a lot of franchise tagged players get traded.

I think I'll take the opinion of someone with access to game film, and someone that stresses the importance of it, over that of the umpteen youtube armchair scouts that post in the manner you and I do.

I don't agree with everything the guy says, but I think his opinions are well thought out and easily defendable.

Yeah he is. Apparently he's not alone. I don't know much about this kid, but I found this quote interesting:

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/profile.php?pyid=32827

03/26/08 - "I want to let everybody know that I'm back," Monk said. "It's been a long, long year." Monk also improved his Combine numbers in the vertical and long jumps Tuesday. The Lepanto native had a 36-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-2 inch long jump at the UA's Pro Day, according to NFL. com. Monk performed well in position drills, cut well and had no stumbles or dropped passes. Jones also participated in wide receiver drills and dropped at least one pass that was thrown behind him in stride by former UA quarterback Clint Stoerner. Eighteen former Razorbacks participated in Arkansas' Pro Day and one player stuck out the most, ESPN NFL analyst Chris Mortensen observed. "Marcus Monk without question," Mortensen said. "... All of a sudden, there's a lot of buzz on him." Brandon Marcello, Northwest Arkansas Times

...pretty big compliment considering the company:

Darren McFadden
Felix Jones
Peyton Hillis
...and more.

I really like his commentary on Hillis. We do happen to run a lot of 2 TE sets and can use another FB.

Anyone know if he has played on ST?

Yup. apparently he was pretty good at it too.

...from Hogwired:

http://www.hogwired.com/ViewArticle...19&DB_OEM_ID=6100&ATCLID=186598&Q_SEASON=2006

"OUTLOOK: One of the most versatile offensive weapons on the roster, Arkansas suffered down the stretch in 2006 when Hillis wasn’t available due to a deep thigh bruise. A punishing blocker, a powerful runner and a natural pass catcher, he will most likely be utilized at fullback, H-back, tailback, tight end, wide receiver and punt returner at some point during the upcoming season. If that isn’t enough, he may return to special teams where he was dominant on the kickoff coverage team early in the 2006 season. Rated the No. 1 fullback in the nation by Phil Steele’s College Football, he was also recognized as the best blocking back in the Southeastern Conference by The Birmingham News. He will help clear the way for Arkansas’ stable of tailbacks and will get an opportunity to get his hands on the ball out of a variety of formations. He enters pre-season camp as the Razorbacks’ top fullback and a prime candidate to return punts."

No. I don't have any pets. There are guys I have an interest in seeing a star on their helmet, but Boylehardt didn't really comment on any of them.

I just skimmed the chat mostly.

I say this because he did a draft chat last year, and was way off on many things.

Also, seriously, he gives Devin Thomas a 4th round grade?

Yeah, I don't agree with Thomas as a fourth either...few people would. I do, however appreciate that he forms his own opinion, uninfluenced by popular trends. He's going to be wrong on some stuff, everyone is.

BTW, I don't use the term "pets" as a derogatory one. Having an interest in seeing a star on a player's helmet is basically what I mean by having pets. ;)

My dream draft would be to trade #22 for 2 of Atlanta's 2nds and #28 to Detroit for Roy Williams. In the 2nd, we could address RB, CB and WR (Monk or Hardy). I just hope Monk doesn't climb the boards so much where a team takes him at the end of the 1st.

Saying that he missed on some prospects as an excuse to say that hes bad is silly. He has hit on quite a few as well and some from out of nowhere. You look at what he says and it comes out is logical and backed up by facts. You can clearly rell he does his homework.

Plus, he takes the time to come here 3 times and chat. The respectful thing to do if you don't like the guy is to say nothing, not take shots at him.
