The draft is in 31 days.
Time for a CowboyZone Draft Game.

Plenty of Draftnicks here, so go for it! Do as many drafts as you like to experiment.

Dallas' picks are: 16, 47, 78, 119, 158, 229, 231, 238, 248, 251, 254

Here are the rules:

1) You must use the CBS/NFLDraftscout.com prospect rankings, just so we're all on the same page.
Here is a link:
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings

2) You can make trades.
But the trades have to be with within some uniform guidelines and with actual teams.
We will use a Trade Value Chart so we can't give ourselves special trade deals. Ex. If the value of our pick at 16 is 1000, we can't get more than in a trade.
For the fun of it, let's go by the standard that a 2015 1st is worth a 2014 2nd at the same slot....a 2015 3rd equal a 2014 2nd, etc.

Here is a trade chart:
http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php

And here is the official Draft Order:
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/order

So are you saying we use the CBS list and we can't take anyone ranked higher than 15 at pick 16? Just wanting to clarify what you are looking for.

That's right.

But you can trade up for someone ranked earlier than 16, no problem. You can even use picks from next year if you like.

I'm sure I'll try a few others, but here is an example:

Trade 1: Dallas trades their 16th overall pick for New England's 29, 62, and 130th picks.
Trade 2: Dallas trades 62 and 158 for Indy's 59th.

So Dallas' picks are now:
29, 47, 59, 78, 119, 130, 229, 231, 238, 248, 251, 254

29) Dee Ford, DE, Auburn
47) Gabe Jackson, OG, Miss St
59) Dominique Easly, DT, Florida
78) Telvin Smtih, OLB, Florida St
119) Dion Bailey, FS, USC
130) Devin Street, WR, Penn St
229) Aaron Colvin, CB, Oklahoma
231) James Wilder, RB, Florida St
238) Trey Millard, FB, Oklahoma
248) Ryan Carrethers, DT, Ark St
251) Ben Gardner, DE, Standord
254) Logan Thomas, QB, Va Tech

Here's mine, no trades...I don't go back and re-edit my picks based on what's available later because that isn't how the draft actually works (except for the last three because those picks suck).

16. Timmy Jernigan DT
47. Demarcus Lawrence DE
78. Chris Borland ILB
119. Trai Turner OG
158. Prince Shembo OLB
229. Kadeem Edwards OG
231. Dezmen Southward SS
248. Ben Gardner DE
251. Antonio Andrews RB
254. Gator Hoskins FB/TE

Not particularly happy with it. I like the players; the first four guys are all solid contributors. But would've liked that wow factor with the first pick.

I make 2 trades in my draft. I trade down with my 1st rd pick at 16 (1000 pts) for the Eagles' 1st rd pick at 22 (780 pts), 3rd rd pick at 86 (160 pts), and 4th rd pick at 122 (50 pts). The Eagles want to trade up for a WR. Then I trade up from my 2nd rd pick at 47 (430 pts) giving up my 5th rd pick at 158 (28.2 pts) and my 7th rd pick at 229 (2 pts) for the Rams 2nd rd pick at 44 (460 pts). Probably would not have to throw in the 7th rd pick but I wanted the points to work out.

1st - 22nd pick - Kony Ealy DE Missouri (Need DE worst than any position IMO)
2nd - 44th pick - Scott Crichton DE Oregon St (see explanation on Ealy)
3rd - 78th pick - Dequan Jones DT Penn St (Need some beef next to Melton and rotation guy for McClain)
3rd - 86th pick - Cyril Richardson OG Baylor (Need more depth at guard)
4th - 119th pick - Christian Jones ILB Florida State (Need some more depth at LBer)
4th - 122nd pick - Mike Davis WR Texas (Speed, speed, speed)
7th - 231st pick - James Wilder, Jr RB Florida State (intrigued by size, we need a bruiser)
7th - 238th pick - Donald Hawkins OT Texas (great size and probably undercoached at Texas)
7th - 248th pick - Ryan Groy OG Wisconsin (Wisconsin OLineman, nuff said)
7th - 251st pick - Lavelle Westbrooks CB Georgia Southern (Good size for CB)
7th - 254th pick - Marcel Jensen TE Fresno State (Blocking TE)

238) Trey Millard, FB, Oklahoma

254) Logan Thomas, QB, Va Tech

I like the trade down and the pick of Ford; although, I never really like to see trades with New England in mocks because they rarely trade up which makes it unlikely to be realistic.

I don't like the Jackson pick very much. I think there a several better OG options for the Cowboys Zone Scheme. I would try to get 2 of these instead of Jackson: Billy Turner, Dozier or Trai Turner.

As a 4th round pick, I might just let Telvin Smith stay near his college weight of 218 and be a nickel coverage LB instead of having him bulk up to be a full time LB.

I think Gardner might be best as 3-tech DT in Marinelli's scheme. His inside rush abilities are much better than his edge rush.

I doubt if Carrethers is a Marinelli type DT. Maybe if he loses weight.

Are you drafting Thomas as a QB? Some people are projecting him at other positions

2 attempts:
1st without trades because they arent always promised:

16. C.J. Mosley MLB --I am starting him and moving Sean Lee to WLB. Strengthen both positions and give myself a 49er like LB Corps.

47. LaMarcus Joyner FS/Nickel CB --Joyner is too small to draft real high but too good a football player to pass 47 picks in. Playmaker at S/nickel CB. Means Scandrick can stay outside if need be. Would be teams best pure coverage safety day 1.

78. Marcus Smith WDE-- Rotational guy day 1. Pass rusher and a huge need pick made at good value.

119. Trai Turner OG --Easy fit at right price. 3rd OG as a rookie with a starting job in his sights for year 2.

158. Brent Urban SDE --Really a 3-4 DE but like his length for SDE in this scheme. Can stop run then just block passes.

229. Connor Shaw QB --Similar athlete to Romo so can learn this offense. Can move around. Price right for shot here.

231. Trey Millard FB --Big back with excellent athleticism. Probably a redshirt year basically with injury but skill tools no Dallas FB has had since Moose.

248. LaDamian Washington --Big outside WR. Dallas loves big outside WRs and figure to take one in this draft class.

251. Antonio Andrews RB --Ultra productive back who keeps the young, cheap RB movement alive and well. Tanner replacement.

254. Spencer Long OG --Redshirt year guy with future starting potential. Draft him, teach him the scheme and get him to IR so you keep his rights.

I was putting together the draft when the news on Brandon Thomas came out. I really want to get a OG in the 1st four rounds if the value's right. I liked the value better for Thomas in the 4th than Jackson in the 2nd, but I do think Jackson will be very good.

You have a point about Telvin Smith, as he is very good in coverage. This guy will be able get after the passer though.

Thomas was my very last of six 7th round picks, so basically a way to assure a shot at a QB project vs going the UDFA route. There are a bunch of QBs that I like better earlier 5th rd and earlier) , but I didn't want to use the picks with us having 3 QBs under contract. Just figured a high ceiling but high risk guy like Thomas at pick 254 was no big deal. I think with NFL coaching, he may have a chance someday.

2nd w trade down in 1st.
trade 16 to Cleveland (who then picks Johnny Football) for 35, 71, 83, and 145

35. Rashede Hageman DT --Big inside DT that can play both 1T or 3T. Adds very helpful depth day 1 and is scheme agnostic. Similar athlete to Jason Hatcher.

47. LaMarcus Joyner FS/Nickel CB --Joyner is too small to draft real high but too good a football player to pass 47 picks in. Playmaker at S/nickel CB. Means Scandrick can stay outside if need be. Would be teams best pure coverage safety day 1.

71. Billy Turner OT --Sits a year behind Free but offers a long-term cheap solution at RT.

78. Marcus Smith WDE-- Rotational guy day 1. Pass rusher and a huge need pick made at good value.

83. Jarvis Landry WR--Tremendous ball skills with potential to be future star. Lacks eye-popping athleticism but could really rise in a pro system with better WR targets around him.

119. Trai Turner OG --Easy fit at right price. 3rd OG as a rookie with a starting job in his sights for year 2.

145. Caraun Reid NT --Princeton guy who will be limited athletically but is hard to move. Cheap Depth on DL.

158. Howard Jones WLB --Back up to Sean Lee on weakside. Will need time to develop but can help on Special Teams day 1 and no better tutor on LB play than Sean Lee.

nothing changes from first draft after this point.

Have you looked at the LB/DE Attaochu? I think he fits the mold of a very quick WDE. Many of the DEs are more SDEs, IMO. Barr, Ford and Attaochu are the best of the WDEs, IMO.
