Listed on the PFT rumor mill, so could be completely fabricated because they miss on stories almost as often as they hit, but it is the offseason after all

COACH CHIN PLOTTING HIS RETURN?
A league source tells us that there is already talk in league circles that former Steelers coach Bill Cowher is planning his potential return to the NFL. Per the source, Cowher already has spoken with multiple teams about filling a potential vacancy in 2008.
The source also says that one of Cowher's demands will be full control over the football operations.
The teams, the source says, are believed to be the Browns, Commanders, and Panthers. Another league source confirms that Cowher has had at least one private discussion with Commanders owner Daniel Snyder about the possibility of replacing Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs, if Gibbs calls it quits after the 2007 season.
We're also told that Cowher has begun the process of discreetly lining up a personnel executive to run the front office, subject to Cowher's final say on all roster moves. Per the source, the list includes Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert, Steelers business operations coordinator Omar Khan, Chiefs executive vice president and COO Denny Thum, and Saints vice president of football administration Russ Ball.
Is any of this surprising? Yes, but no. With Cowher expected to be the hottest commodity on the coaching market come January 2008, teams that think they might have a coming opening would be stoopid not to commence the process of seeing what it would take to get him.
Money is a key component in this regard. We've yet to hear anything about Cowher's expected salary, but we suspect he's hoping to get at least as much as Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren (who is in the $7.5 million to $8.5 million range), given that Cowher beat the Big Show in the Big Show less than 18 months ago.

Unfortunately, I can see it. It's certainly close enough to his Carolina home, if compared to Cleveland. Out of the three, I expect that Snyder would throw anything it would take, short of Fed Ex field to get him. The other two possibilities would not. The wildcard here may be the Giants.

Cowher working with Synder?

There would be more clashing there than Andy Reid and Rush Limbaugh fighting over a Cheesesteak.

Allow me to outline Commanders' fans talking points (in advance) if this were to go down.

"How are you going to stop us now? We've got one of the greatest coaches of all time. Look what he did with Pittsburgh over the long haul, keeping them winning while the owners refused to spend. We've got an owner that will spend whatever it takes. You can't imagine the carnage we're going to inflict on the league..."

etc.....etc.....

Carolina is more likely. I think they're getting disillusioned with Fox.

They said the same thing (well maybe worded a little differently) about Jones and Parcells.

You guys slay me with the delusions. I like Cowher, I wanted him here, but he's not your savior from Joe Gibbs.

I thought Gibbs was the savior. How can you be a savior to a savior?

amazing what using fake names to get ED medicines and sex tourism jaunts to the Dominican Republic will do to one's waist line.

No I was just saying that Skinggibbs beat me to that post that he made. I'm impartial to Cowher at this moment. I wont even think about him unless Gibbs retires first. His reputation speaks for itself.

Sometimes the salvation is worse than the damnation.

Cowher to the Commanders isn't likely, for a couple of reasons...

1. The owner is Daniel Synder

2. He would prefer something closer to his North Carolina home, i.e. the "Carolina" Panthers. John Fox is definitely on the hot seat down there.
