Tim Cowlishaw answered questions in a chat Thursday. Here are some highlights.

Question: I know Jerry will never blow up the team to rebuild but given the guys off the street status of the defense would he consider blowing up the defense? Go young all the way around. Every job in danger except maybe Lee, Claiborn(maybe) and Carr. Can't do much worse than last in the league?

Tim Cowlishaw: Jerry and the defense first. They are last in yards allowed, I don't think they are the worst defense in the league. When you're third in takeaways, that counts for something. Quite a lot actually. And if the line had Ware, Spencer, Hatcher and just one Taxi Driver (probably Hayden), that would be a drastically different defense. So blowing it up is nonsense.

Question: Will Jerry ever get the message, that Dallas needs a football man running the team?

The defense has been getting blown up almost every game !

what more could you realistically do?

safeties are very young.

corners are young.

i guess you could move holloman into one of the linebacker positions.

no point benching hatcher. selvie is young. youth is rotating in the other two positions. i guess you could shop ware. but if you're going to do that, then go all the way and start shoping romo and witten too.

I am of the opinion that if they really waned to shop Ware, there is still no reason to shop Romo, or Witten or anyone else.

Shopping one player (with the exception of your QB) does not mean you are throwing in the towel by any means.

He hasn't been making a major impact for the team for awhile now so shopping him isn't blowing up the team.

Now- do I agree with shopping Ware?

No. Not yet. Let's see how he is when he comes back, at least.

The defense needs better players to be sure - but beyond that, they need a better scheme and DC.

I'm not as down on the scheme or the coordinator due to the mess on the defensive line.

I don't think you can evaluate the scheme when you have that many starters gone. But I'm a tad skeptical of the scheme and have been since they hired Kiffin. I can tell you they aren't running a st8 up Tampa 2.
