I think our QB opened his mouth too wide here.
A bit of immaturity here.
He doesn't deserve much. That's where the problem will be.
The players around him deserve more money then he does since they are making him better and he isn't making anyone better.
I definitely believe he deserves to get paid more than what he is getting paid now, no doubt. But he needs to chill out. Many here would say I'm a Dak fan, but he's doing the most. This is giving him bad cred and usually I try to defend him, but I cannot defend him for this.
He deserves 16-22 mil at best. If he somehow steps out as a tier 1 QB next season, sure pay him 25 mil, maybe a little more, but I doubt it's going to happen. Many others on that team that help make him need to get paid too. He needs to realize what he is. He isn't Rodgers, Wilson, Brady, or Mahomes or anything like that. He's average (which is fine).
However, I'm against big contracts for QB's in the first place. Giving them big contracts messes up the entire team. The Vikings contract for Cousins has messed up a lot of future contracts for QB's in the league.
Dak has a good head on his shoulders and is usually smart in situations like these. I really hope he realizes that people like Zeke and Amari and his defense raise the team to elite levels too.
I think 20-23 mil would be the best range to get Dak. Any cheaper would be great of course. But his market value is probably around there.
Unfortunately there are a bunch of overpaid QB’s in the league. It’s unfortunate but it’s the way it is.
I'd let him hit the open market.
There is no way he would leave Dallas and I don't think there would be a big market for Dak Prescott.
No need to compete against ourselves on this one. Pay him top dollar according to the market and if some team is dumb enough to give him a huge contract then let him walk.
Alex Smith got 94 Million over 4 years, 27MM on signing and 71MM guaranteed. Dak would get offers and they would be sizable.
Dak is an average QB. Offer upto 20Mil a year so we can keep building around him. Anything more and there is no need to extend him this year. If he wants 25+ it's better for us to keep him on the rookie deal then franchise him the next year for 30M and then decide if a bigger contract is worth it. If he was a top tier QB few would complain but he isn't and if he wants top tier $ then string his butt out a few more years and also look at what his trade value might be to a desperate team.
He still has one year left on his deal.
Dallas generally likes to extend starters during the last year of their rookie deal, but there's no rule saying they have to.
For safety, they can let him play out the 2019 season, then:
1) if he plays how they hope he will play, then pay him well
2) if he ends up middle of the pack or lower and they still have doubts of him as a true long term solution, then they can either tag him of offer a lessor deal
Now if they're already completely convinced that he is the long term answer, then go ahead and extend him like they did with Tyron, Freddy and others
NFL football 101 Dak.......fans hate hearing NFL players talk about money/contracts. Let your agent handle it. Stay out of it......
And that was a stupid contract that most teams are glad they didn't do.
If we gave Dak that contract we would regret it. Let some other team make these bad deals.
Dak is not good enough to invest a ton of money in.
I think it's another lesson the league is learning. Those contracts are out of hand. Teams are paying decent quarterbacks like Cousins huge money and messing up their caps and not seeing the appropriate returns. I know it's the most valuable commodity in sports, but the team that does it in a better way will reap huge advantages. Like the Patriots and Brady, year after year, after year.
He doesn't want Tom Brady's small contract but Tom Brady's small contract if part of why they are winning.
HUGELY immature statement by Dak. The only thing I (and everybody even) could not criticize Dak on is his maturity and how he conducts himself infant of the media.
This is as immature and needless and stupid as it gets. Why would you go there Dak?
You stink at QB and now you stink in interviews.
Brady just circled that Cowboys game on his calendar. I predicted a win for us, but with his bog mouth, this is going to be a blowout that fits the Dallas Cowboys
In my opinion, If they're "completely convinced" they're playing it wrong.
How you would play it?
Is there a big downside to letting him play the 2019 under his current deal? Or are you convinced enough to go ahead and extend?
Whatever he gets he deserves.
Pom Pom whatever they do. I know.
I'm 100% confident this has already been decided by Jerry and Stephen. My guess Stephen already have a good idea what his contract numbers will be.
Even before TFred and Smith got their contracts you knew you were going to get a great player whenever the time was right for an extension, regardless of any other player next to them.
Can people say with an honest, straight face that they feel the same way about Dak? I get the impression that people say to themselves, "as long as he has Cooper, Zeke, an O-line, the run game priority and a proven QB coach then hell yeah pay him!" and that is where the problem is.
