Hellllllllllllooooooooooooooo.....

It's a Saturday night, I am bored (and procrastinating working). I am currently in South Carolina for work, been here since July 4th. I am averaging about 14 hours a day for work, my max has been 22 (I got two hours of sleep and worked 15 the next day). Anyway, it is the end of the month and I should be at my computer working, but I have been addicted to the Zone today.

When I travel, I tend to have very little time to do anything. That being said, the first thing I do is unplug my television, so as not to distract me from work. My freetime is limited to an hour or 2 a day of reading, learning guitar if I can squeeze it, or, if I am lucky, I treat myself to a movie.

I just finished Lolita, by Vladimir Nabokov. An absolutely amazing book. Humbert Humber is an amazingly vile character that you actually fall in love with by the end (think Lester Burnham from American Beauty). The most amazing thing about the book is Nabokov's mastery over language. It's amazing because he is not a native speaker, but is up there with the likes of Shakespeare with his ability to use words to their maximum ability.

Last night, I watched Brokeback Mountain for the first time. Also an amazing film. I do think Crash deserved the Oscar, but that movie was nothing less heart wrenching. You felt sad for everyone at the end. Literally - every single person. There was another thread a week or so ago questioning Heath Ledger's acting ability. That was an amazing feat by every actor in that movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I guess the point to all of this is that today, housekeeping no doubt noticed that I had a copy of Lolita and Brokeback Mountain - I wonder if they will report me as some sexual deviant.

South Carolina is a beautiful state - if I can find a day to take off work, I am going to go play in Charleston or hike somewhere in the Congaree.

There is no purpose to this thread, consider it a mini-Midswat thread or something, I don't care. I am starting to get cabin fever out here (my job doesn't have me working with other people - I come out here and see my insureds and spend the day in my hotel, maybe get out for a cup of coffee, dinner or a drink). Just wanted to spend some time to write something, and considering my blog gets no traffic, maybe someone would be interested in the going-ons of Crown Royal.

Have a good evening!:star:

When did you get out of NO?

Back in April. I was shipped to Nashville for a month for the hail storms in Murfreesboro and tornados in Gallatin. Then I spent May and June at home and came out here.

So I tried to watch Brokeback Mountain a few weeks ago...

I'm sitting down watching this flick, and I'm bored as hell. You really need to like slow movies to get into this one, regardless of how you view the whole ummm.... brokeback issue. The first thirty minutes had some great Montana scenery but the dialogue has mostly been, "You like beans Earl?" "Yup, I like me some beans." "You want to make some tomorrow morning, too?" "Yup, I like them beans."

I'm bored and I'm wondering if this movie is even gonna get brokeback on me because I don't detect any manlove going on, and then suddenly, a half hour into the movie, WHAM! dudes start manloving like crazy! I mean, it's out of the blue! They're just about to pass out in the tent and have another days of beans and livestock, and suddenly, they are bringing the brokeback issue front and center! And this isn't some slow love scene, this is a scene that reminds me of the shower scenes in "American History X" or "Mi Familia"!

So while I guess I'm supposed to have an open mind and appreciate this movie just like it was a man and a woman, I can't help but feel like I'm watching the grittiest scene in "Oz!" Instead of an awkward love story, I feel like I'm watching shock TV! It was then and there, that I decided that Brokeback Mountain wasn't for me, turned it off, and went on to the next rental.

:lmao2::lmao2:

I know which scene you are talking about - it was very in your face. I didn't expect anything like that. Actually, I thought it was more vivid than the American History X thing.

Anyway - after that, the movie really takes off. You don't see anything like that again, at least not homosexually. But the way they develop the story and characters is outstanding. Kinda get choked up at the end.

No - the entire time I was there I was working my butt off. I only ever ate at the restaurants near me.

I thought about dropping you a line on my way home, but it was about 1AM when I got to Memphis, and there was a very pretty lady waiting for me at home, so I decided that you could wait till next time.:p:

Soooooooo - I woke up at Noon on sunday and haven't slept since. I lurked here quite a while afternoon in between working, then really hit it hard at about midnight. Before I knew it, it was 6AM. I decided to go ahead and try to meet a goal that I knew was impossible (for the end of the month - I hate late billing).

I still didn't reach it, but hey, who cares. The sad thing is I will probably still be awake until 1-2 AM tonight. 38 sleepless hours ftl.

I finished reading Othello today. I was told that Iago was the most cunning of all Shakespearean villains and this play was amazing. Hamlet is, however, still better. I think, in Shakespeare's defense, I lost something in reading this rather than seeing it in performance.

I give it a 7/10 as far as Shakespeare goes.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
