I agree. I was worried right after it happened, when I saw the replay I had no doubt it was going to be overturned. It was not that close once you saw the replay. Only call that I really questioned all game was the roughing the passer against Ware. They showed the replay twice and I just did not see anything that even looked close to roughing
I knew it was incomplete in live action. The replay just confirmed what I saw. Same thing should have happened on the Randel-El reception late in the game. Clearly hit the ground.
I agree with Aikman on that roughing the passer penalty. What is Ware supposed to do when Samuels is the one pushing him into the QB? What is any defender supposed to do? It is hard to control where you hit the QB when someone is pushing you into the QB. I guess when it happened live that it may have looked as if Ware whacked Campbell in the head, but it was hardly roughing the passer.
I thought the officiating was good. As good as can be expected for an NFL game. The only call that really bothered me was the one not called. That was when they slammed TO to the ground after the whistle and a good 5 yards behind the point where he caught it.
I have thought this for a while. Some changes need to be made with officiating. First, they need to be full time. Really that is the only thing that needs to be done because it can have a huge impact. These guys would have nothing else to worry about, but football.
Any other change would just be a luxury while making them full time is a necessity.
Second, they need to have another official line up in the offensive back field opposite the referee. Third they need to have an alternate on the sidelines in case there is an injury to an official on the field. And then because of the Browns-Ravens game field goals need to be reviewable. I was surprised to find out that they are not. Seems silly that they are not.
