X should love Rodney Smith. Kid is over 6'5 and ran 4.4 40. Reminds me of his pet cat Waller. Possible TE if he can get his weight up, currently 225. Joe Thomas is another run and hit LB that Marinelli loves. Has a slow 40, but nice 10.

Smith is 6-5, 225#, with 84" wingspan. Had 4.51 40, 4.07 shuttle, and 34.5 vert at the combine.
Played with Ponder at Fla St, where he was not the preferred target.

Was undrafted in 2013, signed to Minny's PS, then to Cleveland's PS last year.
Lack of success has been attributed to lack of strength, only average hands, and sub-par separation due to inadequate lateral quickness.
Must be able to use his height and reach to be a target., but has not been great at fighting for the ball.

Project.

Cowboys added a DB to PS. Deji Olatoye, previously on Ravens & Chiefs PS. Olatoye is a big corner (6'1 200) with good speed (4.46 40) and some experience at FS too.

Does anyone find it interesting that with the PS now set, we have no D-linemen at all on the squad ? No ends or tackles ... By design or what ? Only thing I can think of is because they went deep on the 53 ... Thought Obada would have made it. Thoughts ?

That's exactly why no DL on PS. 11 DL means a lot of reps to distribute, so its likely the 3rd stringers will get most of their reps on scout team. Was pulling for Obada, even Gardner but its a numbers thing. Maybe move Obada to LB, he's bigger, faster and more athletic than Jakorey Johnson. I thought it was strange that Obada was not being groomed as a ST specialist rather than focusing on TE/DE. If he is going to make a roster, that is the position group he should have been trying to crack first.

I would play where I had the better chance of making the 53 and I would think it is better in Cleveland than Dallas.

I dont know if I would take much stock in a Cleveland evaluation. He could be better than Dwayne Bowe and they could be blind to it. They havent hit on a QB since Kosar. They really poo'd the bed with Manziel, Gilbert and really any skill position recently (Gordon being a head case/addict, etc)

Well said indeed, the Browns are not a good team and players just die there, once these guys practice with Dallas we will know what they got and what they don't got.

We did go long there and Lavar Edwards was claimed on Oakland's 53, so I'm not surprised. Maybe a bit that we did not add Gardner, but that's about it.

The lack of Obada is puzzling. Why give this guy a 3 yr deal if you aren't interested in developing him. His athleticism is off the charts and I thought he developed a great deal over the course of a few months given his lack of experience. Just baffled.

The 3 year deal covers DAL if he is good enough to make the team. None of it is guaranteed so it doesn't matter, they don't owe him any money.

Obada is not likely going anywhere. Maybe they plan on putting him on the PS at a later date or just hope they can get him there at some point. Maybe they just don't have any room at the inn.

The two linebackers are showing to be slight in size. I guess the team will work at adding size as well as grooming.

I think you're right. He's probably living in Dallas, still a pseudo-part of the organization, working on the side, committed to the Cowboys for bringing him over here, and getting personal training. He doesn't need to take up a PS spot.

Dakorey Johnson really was 215 at his Pro Day.

I'm curious if the decision for Gibson to go to another practice squad was his or the Cowboys. He was very raw but has more upside than Wetzel. Wetzel appears to know what to do but just doesn't have the quickness or power to get it done.

The mega sized WRs are interesting.

Like others I thought Obada would get a spot.

Where is he getting his financial support for this? The guy is from the UK and worked in a shipping warehouse. I'm not sure how he can support himself now that the football stipend is gone. Or how long his visa was for.

I have no doubt that JJ has several business associates who would accommodate such needs quite nicely.

I agree. I wonder how many kids get supported by area fans upon request by the Cowboys even Jerry.

Jerry owns like 100 Papa Johns. If it is OK with the League, which it probably isn't, he could always find work.
