Sounds like a 53 addition.

Jordan Mills hunched forward at his locker Thursday night and absorbed a barrage of questions about his candidacy for the Bears' starting right tackle spot. Being demoted two weeks earlier hadn't deterred him, he said. His effort was full and his hopes were high entering final cuts.

But on Sunday, less than 24 hours before the Bears' first regular-season practice, the team cut him by placing him on waivers.

The move opens the door for two-time Pro Bowl right guard Kyle Long to switch to right tackle and start against the Packers, despite his never having played a professional snap at the position in a game.

Mills, a fifth-round pick in 2013, started 29 games over his first two NFL seasons.

"It's kind of shocking," Mills said. "But it's a part of the business. You never want it to happen to you, but you've got to move on from it. I wish the Bears nothing but success this year. It's saddening, but the Bears are always going to be a part of me."

The Bears promoted Charles Leno to the first string in Mills' place, but his two shaky exhibition performances prompted the team to put Long at right tackle some in practice last week.

The new regime was dissatisfied with Mills' pass blocking. He has been a powerful run blocker since joining the team, but various technique breakdowns in the passing game prevented the team from narrowing its focus on coaching points.

Mills said the Bears told him simply they preferred a new direction.

"I completely understand that, so I wish them all the best," Mills said. "It's time for me to go help somebody else that needs tackle help."

He had thumb surgery in May and then they decided to keep Terrelle Pryor as a converted WR (former QB). Going in everyone knew he had a lot of talent but needed to learn the whole route tree and he also has body catching issues. Sounds a lot like Terrance Williams.

that Terrelle pryor as a WR is not going to work out at all.

All the media speculation I've see expects Chaz Green to never come off PUP this season.

We'll see what happens.

May not be because of injury though. We can start practicing him after week 6 and get an idea of what we have in him, if it's not better than Weems after 5 weeks or however long the window is, then we just keep him on the list as opposed to cutting someone for him.

John wetzel,complete waste of time.

I see no upside in this player.

But I understand having him on the practice squad.

He's smart and can work at tackle and guard.

The scout team has to simulate what that weeks opposing offense likes to do.

If there is <one> thing that prevents this team from winning the Superbowl, it may be the fact that there isn't a single defensive back up on the roster who ranks anything above average and as whole the group is below average.

The improved pass rush should reduce pressure on the defensive backfield, however, I find it slightly discouraging the best thing we can really say about the DBs is that that they are 'deep'.

I think we're better than average but I won't argue strongly with you.

Tells me that there are possibly external players if they need to pass a physical. Mayle is one of them probably.

Agreed.

Teams usually like to keep players who were just cut because they know the playbooks and are just more familiar with them.

There's more of a learning curve for both sides when bringing in a player who was on another roster for training camp.

Sill puzzled why they wouldn't want to try and develop Obada, physical skills like that are rare

Speaking of WR Vince Mayle, I'm told he will sign w/ the #Cowboys practice squad. #Browns 4th rounder this year.

I am a fan of the Vince Mayle WR pickup. He stood out when I watched him play at WSU.

Playing Leach's offense might have inflated his production though. He has to get over the drops and get his confidence back.
