There are only 4 guys I would rather have than Phillips:

1. Bill Belichick - New England Patriots
2. Andy Reid - Philadelphia Eagles
3. John Fox - Carolina Panthers
4. Tony Dungy - Indianapolis Colts

Belichick is an obvious choice, he is by far the best HC in the league and the best the NFL has seen in a long time.

People underestimate Reid because he coaches the hated Eagles but he has kept them in contention for several years now even with a stingy owner, the loss of key players, injuries, dissension, and a slew of other problems.

John Fox is another guy people don't give credit to but he has also had to deal with a lot of injuries over the last few years but his team is always competitive.

Dungy is a guy you find hard to dislike, even if he did play for the Stealers. He is also a very talented HC.

Worst thread ever. What was the point of this? Why not just say "I DONT LIKE WADE PHILLIPS" and be done with it?

I like him, actually.

I was looking through a list of current NFL head coaches and did not find more than 4 that I'd rather have.

To me, that's interesting, given how the press seemed to think that he was an underwhelming choice.

Just curious where other fans here stand.

So which 4 would you choose?

Bill Belichick - he's the best.

I agree with you on John Fox.

The other two: Jeff Fisher & (maybe) Sean Payton.

Can anyone else tell what the difference between Payton and the Belichek, Fox, Fisher group is?

This is all without really knowing, but here it is

Light Blue I call a push, and would certainly look at it.

Dark Blue I'd take no doubt

I used to like Fisher a lot and thought he would have made a great choice before we hired Parcells but he hasn't impressed me much in recent years.

Payton is a good choice but has to prove he can do it for more than one season.

Also, I like how you offered us Wade Phillips as an alternative to Wade Phillips. :laugh1:

Jack Del Rio is another good pick, I like that guy. He reminds me of John Fox in his approach to the game.

I also think Tomlin is going to pan out and be good in Pittsburgh, but I would take Wade over him for the time being.....

That is seventeen, which puts him right in the middle which is pretty much were he belongs for now.

So right now, you believe Wade Phillips is the sixth best coach in football?

There may be a difference between who is the best overall coach in football and who is the best match for your team (given the roster on defense, for example).

Joe Gibbs? Tell me you are joking! Gibbs sucks. Unless you are only counting his time before his current stint with the Commanders I don't see how he could even be a consideration.

Whisenhunt has never even head coached a game and you think he is a better HC than Phillips?
