This is not a panic thread....laying out the facts.

Needs:
NT..rotation with Fergi
WR...few options, however one has high risk, the other a trade (We need Two)
TE...???
FS...???
OLB...most likely draft or Willie or both
Kicker...crossing fingers here for Adam V. or Josh Brown offer
OT...there is no one in FA worth signing as a starter

If we are lucky we will take care of kicker, OLB, and WR in FA...not sure if we will sign anything else??? Whats out there???

Going into draft with needs at:
TE
NT
FS
OT
OLB young one
WR another one

There's noway we can expect to land 4 or 5 starters in the draft...that's unreasonable for a hopefull playoff team. Maybe 2, but more is not realistic.

We've released out vet leadership, so this is a concern of mine.

As of now the state of the union is not pretty, and we've created more holes to fill by releasing Glover, Campbell, Keys, and most likely LA...

Can't wait to see what the next few weeks bring in terms of possible trades etc...our options are very limited in FA at this point.

TE's, FS's, and OLB's are like fish in water ... we can draft them aplenty.

We'll have plenty of options in the draft.

We don't need a stud TE, just a blocking one ... big, slow TE's are available on the 2nd day.

Pro Bowl FS's are also found on Day 2. There are plenty of options.

We'll probably take 2 OLB's in the draft.

Worry not, these positions are easy to fill with quality talent.

WR, OT, and NT will be tougher ... and often require premium picks.

Geez. No wonder it is difficult to win in this league. You need great players, but they don't grow on trees. We have needs, but so do other teams. The draft is a crap shoot (e.g., Peterman, Rogers, Ross, Bryant). Some teams can't seem to get it together. I am beginning to feel that we are one of those teams.

You can't blame Jerry for not wanting to break the bank (or screw up the cap) because you want to have something in case someone great becomes available. But on the flip side, most players command more than they are worth in free agency. What do you do? (Or the better question: how do the Commanders do it?)

The Commanders get rid of all their future draft picks. thats how they do it. and they max out their cap figures.

Jerry and Bill have a plan. It looks to be a mad scientist plan at the moment. But they do have a plan, they just aren't in a hurry to show it to us yet. We just have to be patient.

You sound as if no one else in the league has a plan. Everyone has a plan, including us. Every team has needs, including us. Some teams are filling those needs (through free agency), some teams are not (like us). The Cowboys have holes to fill, but they are creating more holes that need more filling.

I wasn't a big Fujita fan, but at least that was one less hole to fill. I thought Key was good (not great), but that's another hole to fill. I thought Campbell was good (not great), but again, another hole.

To make a long post even longer, we have to play catch up (replace Fujita, Campbell, and Key), before we can get better (o-line, safety, linebacker). We basically have to do a trade (not likely) or have a spectacular draft (uncertain) to move this team forward.

Damn.

This what I don't understand about the Cowboys... How are you going to be in a bind and you have money to spend?

Free Agency isn't over, they apparently are waiting for the big spenders to run out of money and get middle tier free agents. Nothing wrong with that.

Can't wait to see what the next few weeks bring in terms of possible trades etc...our options are very limited in FA at this point.

- NG: would be nice, but not necessary - Pepper Johnson will make a nice rotation NG
- WR: we still have several attractive options available (Javon/TO/Moulds/Key)
- FS: is overrated, Dallas finished '05 #2 in completion % allowed, besides this is a relatively inexpensive position in FA and the draft is exceptionally deep at FS as well
- OLB: add McGinest and Carpenter/Wimbley/Lawson at #18 please
- K: still available include Vinatieri/Vanderjagt/Mare/Brown, even the best Ks won't break the bank
- OT: still available include Ashworth/Fabini/Hopkins/Runyan, any one of these guys would upgrade the starting RT position

We have roughly the same amount of money to spend in FA this year as last, and last year we added: Bledsoe, Rivera, Fergy, Henry, Glenn, A-Train, Fujita and Price. We also started four rookies (Pettiti, Ware, Spears and Canty) and got significant contributions from three others (Barber, Thompson and Ratliff). Adding more than two significant contributors on draft day is a very real possibility, as well.

The offseason is still young. Besides, how many times have we seen a certain rival of ours repeatedly win all the offseason accolades only to blow chunks all over the field. Don't let the paper champs fool ya. Keep the faith.

You are indeed, and it seems these days if you don't have blind faith in the organization or if you raise these types of issues you are labeled as a chicken little these days. This is 2004 all over again.

What is frustrating is this team went into FA with needs at OL, K, LB and one week later it now adds WR and DT to the list. When you are $20mil under the cap, you should not be letting players go unless you have replacements for them.

Despite what others say, the good kickers are slowly going off the market. Within a few weeks, there may be no alternatives at WR or K. In a nightmare scenario, if both Keyshawn and TO go off the market, this team will have no choice but to head into the season with Glenn, Crayton and a rookie at wide receiver.

Given Glenn's injury history, can anyone call this a step forward? Does anyone here call this a viable plan?

If we are chicken littles, then the other side is clearly the blind faith, homer glasses contingent. :)

Jeff Ireland has submitted the plan and now it is implemented.

No worries here.

maybe, and unfortunately, the plan is to wait until next offseason and make a run at sb in 2007. maybe there are fa they are more interested in for next year. i hope not, i want to win now, but they seem to be purging the team of age and experience. i dont see how that helps us this year.

The bind is a quality player at the postitions of need. Can we sign a warm body to play...sure we can, but we are considered a playoff team. You need quality at many of these positions. WR is critical. OT is critical because if you look at our division we have teams with dang good DE's...if we can't stop them we don't win.

I'm not saying high priced playmakers, but good players at need positions. It makes no sense to me to release Dan Campbell and get a sub-par player instead. Not to mention we've released him and we have NO ONE in return yet.

That's what I mean when referring to bind...not many choices with regards mid/top tier players in need positions.

If this is indeed the plan...I'm a very unhappy fan! We've been waiting long enough. Drew, Fergy, Rivera don't have many more good years...the time is now and still build as we go.

BP has never had a team where he says I want to when a few years down the road...especially now in his career.
