Dak and something that doesn't show up on stat sheet

I love Dak and am thrilled for the future. I also believe that Romo gives us the best chance to win this season and make a deep playoff run. These aren't mutually exclusive ideas.

.

Romo's health disagrees. He is no longer an option at QB. He's become a liability.

The way Dak is poised in the pocket and is a consummate professional reminds me of (and I say this rarely of any player) Roger Staubach. At round 4, we got the steal of the draft.

So Romo is not a leader?
I didn't say anything about Romo, but I have casually followed the Cowboys over the past 20 years. I have seen MANY outbursts from Dez in crucial situations. I have seen a team fold in crucial moments for as long as I can remember. Like I said, we can point to stats, etc... All we want. But, when I hear long time Dallas reporters and players make statements like "It is much different this year, it feels different than years past, etc..." I know EXACTLY the primary reason for that.

It is not something you will see on the stat sheet, but I feel it is truly worth discussing. I just want to see the Cowboys win. I am 100% positive that the chances for success are exponentially higher with Dak leading the charge for many reasons described.

Interesting. Are you a doctor? Or a coach or a trainer?

If not-- then I think I will go with what Parcells recently said about Tony. The book on him isn't written yet.

My only problem with Romo's leadership is I have heard him blame other players for mistakes in public. That is a no-no in the locker room.

Link please. I have NEVER heard Romo throw any of his teammates under the bus.

I have heard him consistently say things about how "as a team we are always looking to improve, get better" etc... I have also NEVER heard any of his teammates publicly bash him.

Without pointing the finger at anyone, why do you think he has only won 2 playoff games in 13 years?

I'd be interested in hearing a response. I don't know of any LONG TERM NFL QBs with worse results in that regard.

I think his playoff record is a combination of factors...

1. He's had a mediocre D the majority of those 13 years
2. The coaching staff in Dallas has been consistently out-coached during his tenure
3. Bad luck with injuries and calls (TO and Terry Glenn injuries in 2007, Terry Glenn fumble and bobbled snap in Seattle, bad call on Dez catch in GB in 2014)
4. He's not consistently played his best football in the playoffs

yes NYG have a weak *** defense.

I have to disagree here. They played very well 2 of the first 3 weeks of the season. One down game doesn't make you weak ***. They have a very good front 4 and now have some solid pieces in the secondary as well. There solid, at least.

A lot of folks, myself included, like to point to stats as a way to measure a player. Dak has been extremely impressive in this regard with one of the best starts in NFL HISTORY by a rookie QB in several key categories. This is HUGE.

However, listening to players and Dallas reporters, I keep hearing how different everything feels this year compared to years past. You don't see Dez blowing up on the sidelines like years past, you see Zeke starting to hit his stride, and you also see an undermanned Cowboys defense doing enough to help the team win. Im not trying to take away anything from their efforts. But Dak and his leadership is a primary reason things are different across the board this year.

Last year when Romo went down the wheels fell off and I got the sense that many Cowboys fans saw the same thing happening this season. However, it didn't because of Dak Prescott. He not only does an extremely good job at his primary duty as QB, but there is zero doubt he elevates the play of everyone around him. I only saw this for 3 seasons at MSU as he lifted an average group of players to the top of the college football world.

Not that I feel the Cowboys are just average players, but I see him doing the same thing now that he did at MSU. Trust me, it is ONLY going to get better.
He did get onto Dez in the preseason after a play. I think it was about not getting out of bounds or something like that.

Having said that, I think something has changed besides Dak. They seem to be doing things differently on defense in terms of mixing it up with personnel; whereas in the past, they would tend to just play the same players regardless of outcome. The on-side kick was also out of character for a Garrett team.

What I like about Dak is that he does not put the ball in danger. Does not force it into small spots. Doesn't hold it too long. He is very well rounded and composed for a rookie. I do question his deep ball, not that he can't throw it-but I just haven't seen it with my own eyes yet. Looking forward to seeing more from him.

I would like to see a link where anyone has indicated that there is a leadership improvement with Dak at QB compared to Romo.

I like Dak a lot, I just don't understand why we have to tear one down to promote the other.

Psst, don't tell the clueless, resident troll Gabe but Romo didn't even throw a pass for 3 1/2 of those "13 years"... I guess he should be mad at Drew and Interceptaverde?

Yes.his deep ball touch needs a lot of work.the pass to Beasley at the 1 yard is an example.if he had led Beasley than that's a easy Td but Beasley had to wait and turn back.I am sure he his working on as it was not a feature at Miss st.

The poster specifically asked you for a link where Romo had thrown his teammates under the bus based on your earlier comments and it looks like the subject got changed.

Again I just don't understand why we have to tear one down to promote the other.

I absolutely agree.

I'll admit, I didn't know a ton about his background until researching him more during the preseason. But after standing back in relative awe at his composure and ability to lead a huddle, my "aha" moment came when learning his undergrad and graduate degrees are in psychology and workforce leadership.

His ability to lead isn't by accident or happenstance.

I'm reminded of the story you told once about Mickey's comparison Carter & Aikman, how he had all the respect for Aikman who didn't ever go out, because he saw his job as being a leader of the organization from the day he stepped foot in the clubhouse.

Roger was a better deal, 10th round. Also with no FA, we kept him for his whole career.

Playing weak *** defenses also help, yes NYG have a weak *** defense.

Well, we will see. He's gonna have to play some top 10 defenses very soon. Philly twice, Baltimore, Minnesota, all are very stout. Then the Steelers, Bengals, and Packers aren't slouches at all. If Dak go's 6-3 in first 9 games, they might as well let him see how far he can take us!!!
