Movies, TV, and books often include a common story arc called the Hero's Journey. While not a perfect match, I think Dak's career is pretty close so far.

It starts in the top with normal life and something disrupting it to where the hero is called to adventure. This would be Romo's injury.

Our hero then learns under a mentor and gains help/allies. This would be Dak's rookie season.

Moving down to the 3:00 to 6:00 section, our hero is further tested. During this stretch, the hero suddenly finds himself without the mentor and help he has relied upon to this point. No Romo, no Zeke.

Moving on to the football talk, it feels like Dak will now find himself in what that diagram calls "the abyss." It's a great opportunity for him to show exactly what level he is capable of guiding the team at even all of the "prove it" games he had last season. If he can rise to the occasion, the team will come out of this stretch with a true uprising elite QB.

Hate to lose Zeke, but it will at least be fascinating to watch the impact and who does or does not step up.
