What an amazing finish this would have been. Beasley was open immediately and it would have been a pitch and catch score. Worst case scenario Beasley is caught around the 10 and we win on fg.

Thanks for this. I'd heard Broaddus reference it yesterday, but didn't know which play it was. Definitely twists that knife in the gut.

Just like last year, i'm betting that Dak is instructed to go with underneath throws. Same happened last year on several occasions where Weeden went for the check down when he had wide open receivers downfield.

It goes against what Garrett says, take what the defense gave us. In this case they gave them a wide open WR for a game winning TD. The giants knew by this point that they don't have to worry about down field passes, Garret's offense calls for all underneath throws.

Beasley was open but not Dez.

Dez is most certainly open. The corner stopped there. It was a zone. if the ball is thrown in front of him we are in fg position.

In the stadium I couldn't understand why he didn't go to butler. He would have caught it at the 50 and stepped out of bounds.

oh well.

Lol. Exactly. They tell the QBs to ignore some of the receivers in the formation and to check it down underneath.

That's not how it works. This is validation that the plays we're calling actually do work when the execution is good. Not the opposite. Sheesh.

Was this the dump off to Dunbar play?

no it was an incomplete to witten, terrible throw. He almost led witten right into another spleen problem.

How he didn't see Beasley or butler is the head scratcher to me. he threw Beasley the ball all day.

That is open.. Tons of space in front of him..

But..

These are pics..

You really need to see a video to really know what happened on the play. I trust theebs though.

Beasley was left alone coming out of the slot and the safety went down towards witten when dak stepped up in the pocket.

I think they ran this play two years ago in NY right before the half. Romo climbed the pocket and was loading up to hit Beasley for what would have been a TD and he got stripped from behind to finish the first half.

The philosophy of how to win with a backup QB is broken I think. You have to take some risks because what usually leads to wins is big plays, on either side of the ball. I don't think our Defense has the horses to consistently dial up big plays currently, but the offense does with Dez. Yet philosophy wise we seem to let defenses plan Dez out of the game fairly regularly. If there's a problem with Garrett its that, not any of the culture stuff that people like to throw around. Sometimes you don't just take what's given you, sometimes you have to take what you want to take.

They referenced it during the broadcast as well I believe...well designed play by Linehan and Garrett. Dakota didn't see it. That happens...learn from it and keep progressing. I wonder if Dakota had predetermined that Witten was going to be the target.

Oh well...would have been a great finish and given Dakota his 1st 4th quarter comeback win to go along with his 1st pro win. Turn the page and get ready for the Skins playing on a short week.

Beasley could've scored, but I don't think Dez could've. Would've been a nice gain and a chance to get out of bounds.

That would've been the most epic finish.. He's gotta make that play...

Still though to idgits point. This proves nothin.

Just because we won the game doesn't mean our offense and players were put in the most optimal position for success..

We have years and multiple X Wr's that have been taken out of the game to go off of with one of the best Passers of all time with Romo.

and also what is up with Donnell being able to engage Byron Jones and throw him to the ground 5 yards into the end zone on a passing play? This was the game winner? How was there not a penalty?

It would have been Aikman-to-Ismail redux.

And back to my point, of course it proves something. There are a half dozen plays you can point to in this last game where the game could readily have been won on scheme alone. That indicates that the scheme was sufficient to win, period. There's no getting around it. You might have a scheme you like better that's also sufficient to win. Or you may think you've got one that makes winning more likely in other situations where this one is not sufficient, but that's an argument for a different thread.

It doesn't matter what the scheme or the play call is if the QB doesn't see the open WR. Or the open WR can't make the catch. Or the WR you pay the big money to to make the contested catch doesn't make the contested catch. Or the WR you tell to get out of bounds chooses not to because he brain farts, whatever that means. We're not losing these games because of scheme. We're losing them because of execution problems.
