Dak Prescott current contract

This is lost on many fans after a player gets paid. The way it works....players are generally compensated for PAST performance. The team is getting 10m/year performance....for a half a million dollars. Once he gets paid...and has a down season....fans want said player to take a paycut. Forgetting that when they were outperforming their contract....by 1000%...they are not allowed to get a raise...and I don't hear fans WISHING a player would get a raise in the moment. This is happening with Dez. He was making a fraction of what his production suggested he was worth his 1st 5 years in the league. He got his contract...but is not producing like he did when he is underpaid. So fans want him to take a paycut...or for the team to cut him. But this stuff balances itself out. Organizations and fans need to understand...you cannot have it both ways.

good point....perhaps all contracts, including the fixed rookie contract scale, should have performance based features

Do that, and players will completely lose interest in winning and losing. It'll be about stats only. Get drafted first overall and make nothing because you're playing with crap. Get drafted 29th by New England and become an instant multimillionaire!

And how is a left guard supposed to get paid on a performance basis?

Good question......add let's say $25-30M signing bonus may be hard to turn down. But remember if he waits one more year, he either gets paid or tagged. That could $25m by 2020.......so he could make practically the same amount with two tags vs your 4-year scenario.
Could.... that is the big question

Brady and Romo both took middling deals their first time since they weren't drafted early just like Dak

Hard to turn down that first 8 figure check........ two years is a long, long time

Seriously....after the first 50m does it even matter?

The NFLPA would NEVER go for that.
probably so and I'd think it would make cap management very difficult. That said, I believe it would improve the salary gap currently in place. Look at Carr......highway robbery! There are many players who didn't get paid because that ridiculous salary, in retrospect, is being wasted on Carr this season.

Yea I remember Romo's first large deal was for $67M I think but that 2007. What is that TODAY to be considered a middling deal?

50% of the League are on rookie deals and make 2m for their first 4 years

50% of the team makes 10% of the salary cap......... bottom 26 guys make 17-19m

QBs average 10% of the cap

I would offer Dak 4/60m after 2018...... the earliest you can extend him..... I would guarantee the whole 60m... just to see if he has the stones to turn down 60m guaranteed after watching ARod, Wentz, DWatson etc getting hurt

Lol I wish he'd take that. That's half or less than a half of what he'll really make.

Bryant and Collins are UFA. Bye-bye.

Draft their replacements. Get some mid-level FA's to fill the gap. 7.7 mil for Collins?

If I remember right that was like 10th or so ranking for QBs at that time; he had only a year and a half as a starter I believe.
Romo's was something like 6/67m...... he never cared about setting the market as an undrafted guy
