Dak Prescott is starting ** Mega Thread **

Exactly, this was the plan when they decided to take Zeke at 4. Dez Bryant is still Dez Bryant, Jason Witten is still Jason Witten and our O Line is still the best in the NFL.

The playbook will be simplified and Dak will have a learning curve, but this is one quarter of the freakout that this board is making it out to be.

will jones start Dak or bring in a vet to start??
Thats what I am wondering, so far no real support for Dak from the jones boys.

This article make it sound the decision has been made to start Dak.

Dak has to start. There is no Vet on the roster and the season starts in 2 weeks.

Not a fan of simplifying playbook but instead cater it to Dak's strengths, expanding it to include more RPO makes much more sense.

Carter did have a better ranked defense.

Dak strikes me as way smarter and more dedicated than Carter. Dak has a better offense too. The jury is still out on this year's defense, so don't count em out yet.

True, but I think you've forgotten how good that D was. 3 AP All Pros in Roy Williams, LaRoi Glover and Dat Nguyen. A pro bowler in Dexter Coakley. Plus Darren Woodson, Greg Ellis and Terrence Newman (rook). There was a stud at every level of that defense.

But most importantly it was led by Bill Parcells and Mike Zimmer.

The closest was probably Kurt Warner and he wasn't exactly a rookie.

Didn't think so. But I could see a really good rookie winning a sb with Denver last year.

Bridgewater, luck, wilson, newton. If one of those was a rookie say last year on denver I honestly think it could of happened.

It was becoming apparent Dak Prescott was the future franchise quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. But on Saturday afternoon the timetable may have been moved up a season or two.

Tony Romo has a broken back and could miss up to 6-10 weeks, a source told The Dallas Morning News. Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett will put on a brave face and create scenarios where Romo could play through the pain, but it would be foolish to rush him back to the field.

"We don't feel like this fracture in his back has anything to do with the other back issues he's had in the past," Garrett said during a conference call Saturday. "It's a separate incident. We're confident that he's going to come back and play football for us this year."

And there may be a point this season Romo's ready to return to the field. What the Cowboys and their fans have to hope is that Prescott will make that a difficult decision. If Prescott can build on his remarkable preseason, the Cowboys don't have to resemble the helpless 2015 campaign. I've seen nothing from Prescott to suggest this moment will be too big for him. Dez Bryant already swears by him, as evidenced by his live-tweeting during the Seattle game.

As Bill Parcells once said about Romo, "this won't go smoothly." But Prescott's future is now. Whether it was great scouting or pure luck, the Cowboys have acquired a rookie quarterback who is poised for a breakout season. Can you imagine how differently things would feel if the Cowboys were turning this over to Kellen Moore today? Prescott was a four-year starter in the mighty SEC. His transition was supposed to take awhile because he operated out of a spread offense. Instead, he's looked extremely comfortable in three preseason games. He is the unquestioned heir to Romo at this point. I would think about bringing in a veteran backup behind him, but that would only be in case Prescott gets injured.

Dont know if he's the future yet of course. If Dallas doesn't start dak week 1 unless romo can play week 1 i'm done with this season already not kidding.

He's easily the most promising qb we have had since romo. DO NOT bring in some vet trying to save this season!!!

Here is something that is encouraging to me about Dak (not that we needed anymore encouragement)

But, all throughout his entire college career the man makes EVERYONE around him better.

In his four years at MS STATE the only players from offense to be drafted by an NFL team have been two scrub RBs. He has never played with much talent around him like he has now.

If the draft were held today, he would be the number 1 overall pick.

I sincerely hope Garrett has this team ready to play because he is on thin ice (or at least should be).

As long as we lean on our running game, we'll be fine with Dak. With Zeke and Morris we can have a 60/40 split run to pass ratio (which is more than 2014 if I recall correctly). This is key because if Dak is being given mostly 3rd and short yardage to get 1st downs, he will be successful more often than not. We'll dominate time of possession - which helps our defense.

He's also athletic enough to install the run option as a viable addition to our running attack. His athleticism and our potent running game will give defensive coordinators something to think about week to week.

First, let me make it clear that in my opinion this IS Romo's team. I'm as enthusiastic about Dak as anyone, but losing Romo is just sickening to me.

Now, with that being said, I truly believe that Dak can at the very least keep our season alive. This is a rookie with poise and composure, who will be lining up with-

1) Arguably the best O line in the league.
2) HOF TE
3) Elite WR
4) VERY solid slot receiver.
5) Blue chip rookie RB.
6) VERY solid veteran RB to backup the guy mentioned above.
7) An offense that has proven they can be elite in the running game.

If any offense can provide an environment for a rookie QB to succeed in, I think it's this one. And I think Dak is the type of rookie who has the appropriate skill set and intangibles to succeed in said offense.

It's a weird situation to be in as a fan. Losing Romo makes me nauseous. But, I am more than a little curious to see how Dak looks behind our O line and with all of our other toys at his disposal.

Thoughts?

He's a rookie. And despite all the positives you listed above, he's still going to make mistakes as a rookie. What often helps a young QB learning is a defense that can help cover up some mistakes he'll likely make.

Unfortunately, we have what looks to be a pretty mediocre defense. If you look at two of the more recent successful rookies - Wilson and Flacco - they both had quality defenses.
