Dak Prescott said he plans to speak with Jerry Jones about the importance of keeping George Pickens

In other words Dak was asked if he would speak to Jerruh about Pickens contract and gave a PC answer.
Absolutely. But there was no doubt in my mind when I read this thread title that this thread would devolve into the usual back and forth about Dak. It didn't take long.

If he did that then even the staunchest Dak hater would have to relent. With the way he’s playing this season it’s hard not to like him. I am very happy with him and I am a Dak critic. But he’s playing awesome. The only thread to hang onto right now is he’s not worth his contract. If he redid his contract then that would end all Dak bashing. If Dak redid his deal and took less money and people bashed him then that would just show agenda driven, irrational hatred for the man. I personally hope he takes less money with a redo because I’d like to see the reaction of fans AND it would help the team.
DDS will never come to an end.

Too many fans worry too much about the salary cap. When only one that can actually see what may happen. And he does not post here anymore.
They have the money to keep Pickens. Plus the cap will increased quite a bit as well.

Some contracts can be changed to lower the cap hit for whatever player they want to keep.
The cap always works itself out. They project this stuff out for future years. Rather if some fans want to believe it or not.

Dallas Cowboys Salary cap by year

THIS year, we have over $31 million in cap space. I expect that to get carried over to next year BECAUSE.....

NEXT year, we have 43 guys under contract, but those contracts put us, already, more than $9 million over the cap.

And yes, there is a way to sign Pickens. You just have to cut Clark, Diggs, Hooker, and maybe Steele.

Doesn't matter if they have the money they've had money to do a lot of things didn't mean they had to do it, they're looking for the future and not for the now

Yes, they have the money. However, they intentionally don't use the cap correctly. So yes, we have to worry about the cap.

This defense is not going to be fixed in the draft alone.

Are you talking about that Adam guy. He was capologist. I miss his posts. He knew the cap inside and out.
Yes. Adam.
He is actually is referred to on over the cap website on their comp pick page. When it explains about how they figured the comp picks.
They give him credit for using his formulas.

He was spot on every year when he posted here.

Nice, I didn’t know they used his formulas. Good for him. Man I wish he still posted here. He was a fountain of good info.

While this is true of nearly all NFL teams, Jerry is the exception because he and Stephen weaponize the cap to keep from spending money on high quality free agents, so we absolutely should worry some about the cap. The defense needs some money spent on talent too.

We've seen this a lot the past 30 years. If they do sign Pickens to a ridiculous contract, it'll be good we have Pickens but bad because they'll use that to justify not bringing it defensive talent aside from rolling the dice in the draft.

They could extend Pickens. Had they done it before this season started, the cap hits would have been much friendlier. It looks like Diggs won't be here next year. That's a 12-13M cap savings. That alone would cover Pickens first cap hit.

The Dak bashing began before his contract and will not end until he’s gone from the game. He’s way overpaid but that’s not on him that’s on the front office

I’d love to see him rework his contract to free up money for Pickens but then will keep him here longer most likely and I’m sure that will make heads explode

If we don't have at a minimum of at least a balanced defense that finishes in the top 15, we have no hope of making any kind of run in the playoffs.

Jerry loves him some Offensive Firepower.

I don't think he needs any extra motivation or input to retain GP. But if he does, Dak's words very well could matter.

Yes if CD was to ever be hurt again Dak needs someone else who can step up to take over as lead offensive weapon. That person was sitting there in the draft, Golden. He'd be here for to finish daks last 4-5 years here in Dallas along with CD. Would have made a dam good duo. Love Pickens but he's gone after this year.
