CFZ Dak's 2022 season eerily similar to Romo 2014

The way this offense is running ever since Dak got back is giving major flashbacks to the 2014 season. Focus on running the ball with our 2 running backs, and the qb picking the defense apart with play action.
Even the beginning of their seasons were similar, check this out. The 2014 Cowboys were 6-2 at this point in the season just like we are now. Both teams went into their first game with a pass first mentality and got wrecked.

Romo 2014 season:

San Francisco game

First game of season for Romo he had an absolute clunker against the 49ers with a terrible stat line of 23-37 281 yards 1TD 3INT and lost the game 28-17. The media wrote the cowboys off as washed up, and proclaimed their season over.

Titans game

First game the cowboys switched to a run based offense. Romo is much more efficient throwing the ball 8 less times finishing 19-29 176 yards 1TD 0INT. The running game was quite strong with the Cowboys rushing for 1TD 220 yards on 43 carries and won the game 26-10

New Orleans game

Romo really lets it rip in this game scoring the most points they have all season up to this point. A great game with 22-29 262 yards 3TDS 0INT. The running game powered away to the tune of 2TDs 190 yards on 35 carries. A perfect balance between running and passing and the Cowboys won the game 38-17

Dak 2022 season

Tampa Bay Bucs game
First game of season Dak has an absolute clunker against the Bucs 14-29 134 yards 0TD 1INT and lost the game 19-3. Dak broke his thumb and the media wrote the Cowboys off as washed up, and proclaimed their season over.

Lions game
Dak's first game back under this new run based offense. Prescott is much more efficient throwing the ball 4 less times finishing 19-25 207 yards 1TD 0INT. The running game was strong with the Cowboys rushing for 2TDS 139 yards on 32 carries and won the game 24-6

Bears game
Dak really lets it rip in this game scoring the most points they have all season up to this point. A great game with 21-27 250 yards 3TDS 1INT. The running game powered away to the tune of 2TDs 190 yards on 35 carries. A perfect balance running and passing and the Cowboys won the game 49-29

Its striking the amount of similarities between that season and this one, and we are only halfway through the season. This formula worked to perfection and led the 2014 Cowboys to a 12-4 record and wildcard round win before they were ultimately downed by Aaron Rodgers Packers in the divisional round when the defense could not make a stop after the Dez catch/no catch decision.

The 2022 Cowboys have that same formula but with a defense that is eons better. Dak needs to do exactly as Romo did that year. But Dak has a trump card that Romo would have given his left collarbone for. Micah Parsons. I think if Dak and Kellen Moore follow the 2014 model offensive model they will be able to take us to a place we have not been in decades: an NFC Championship game, and I like our chances in that game against anyone out of the NFC.

Thoughts?

Eh, I guess if you squint really hard sure. But the 2014 OL was a far cry better than the 2022 OL. Maybe they're close in run blocking (although that zone stretch run in 2014 was very *chef's kiss*), but the 2022 OL cannot pass block nearly as well.

While I agree that the oline isn't as good, I'm moreso making a comparison between the style of play that we are using on offense with the respective pro bowl qbs. It led to Romo's more efficient season by far, and it looks like it can do the same for Dak.

As long as Dez catches it this time I'm perfectly fine with that.

I'm not sure the 2014 defense stops ARod from getting a game-winner (they couldn't get the ball back after the Dez play), but I would've liked to have found out.

This year's bunch, in a situation where the opponent is down and has to pass, would get after him.

A top level running game can do that. Let's just pray Moore doesn't lose his mind and stray away from it..

Or crystal clear to anybody who's eyes aren't diluted with hate
Na its def a reach

Nowhere in your comparison did you mention Dak playing against the worst defense in the league at home.

Romo’s clunker in week 1 was from him being rusty after the injury. Dak’s clunker week 1 was because he sucks when he doesnt have great protection

Them being Quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys is a better similarity than your reach

This team has a defense that makes more plays than the 2014 defense. If Dak is ever going to have real playoff success, this is the year. If not now, when?

I agree with you. This team has the best shot we've probably had for Daks entire career

I dont think Mike McCarthy allows that to happen. Hes already reigned Kellen in this season, he knows what this teams strength is.

Did Romo not get to play against any terrible defenses in 2014? (he did). Dak didn't play any preseason before jumping into game 1 just like Romo didnt in 2014. They both had rusty clunkers. You're really on some other ish right now lol

Possible...but I was just responding to the poster that tells us not to do something so I do it because nobody tells me what to do...got it, that includes you.

Dak is an average QB.

Come on dude why do we need to go through this all the time? Nothing about Dak's career says "average." 65% winning percentage.. 67% completion percentage .. top 10 all time passer rating.. top 5 all time TD/INT ratio.. On pace to make his 4th playoff appearance in his 6th full year as a starter. Sorry but "average" QBs don't have that kind of resume. You wanna ding him for his lack of playoff wins fine.. but the fact remains that he has jumped over "average" a long time ago. Unless we're changing the definition of average to being among the all time top 10 in multiple categories and winning 2/3 of your games.
