The Vikes have two 2nd round pics, and 3 3rds, so the trade wasn't really that bad considering that they were this close to beating the Hawks on the way to the title game.

Ah, so that 1st rounder was like a freebie since they had extra picks? Now it makes sense. It's like comp picks.

The trade of Bradford has caused the Eagles to have to go with Wentz. With everything Philly gave to trade up for him they have to go with him now that Bradford is gone. No way can they go with Chase Daniel and have Wentz sit. That would be sending a bad message to their fan base that Wentz has been a disappointment.

Not really. It would mean Wentz is coming up to speed and Daniel's is a stop gap. After Bradford was traded I thought Daniel's would start 2-3 games and then Wentz would take over.

Does anyone besides me think Dak's superb preseason play is causing the Eagles to speed up Wentz' development? I do.

I also think it is unwise of Philly to start Wentz after very little preseason play and potentially still being slightly injured. Philly might really be making a big mistake and throwing Wentz to the wolves.

I think once they pulled the cord and got back a 1st and 4th for Bradford...and with Daniels not being overwhelming....they didn't see a lot of downside.

Not sure I'd have done it though.

Can't imagine Dak being a reason though. That'd be really silly.

No, but they had a choice. Roll with Shaun Hill, awful, or someone like Sanchez, rolling into the new stadium and there first division championship in a while. Or Bradford and the picks.

Had we not found Dak we would be in the same position today and would have probably done the same thing! Just hopefully not for Bradford.

Problem is Daniel would be a stopgap for maybe 2-3 games until he's yanked for Wentz. You can't enter the season with a QB who doesn't have your full support and everyone including that QB knows they'll only be starting until Wentz is up to speed. Very few teams end up having a good season making a change at QB during the season. Even though Bradford was a stopgap while he was there the coaching staff gave him their full support because they felt they had to. Daniel as the starter for even a couple of games would have been a tough sell in Philly due to him having only 2 career starts and only one career TD pass. Philly is Daniel's 3rd team and he hasn't taken a regular season snap for them. Even with Wentz missing a lot of preseason no way can they start Daniel ahead of him.

Drafting a QB in the top 5 is one thing but when you mortgage your future to move up to that position to draft them you have to start them early. Mike Shanahan was asked immediately after Washington traded the farm to move up for RG3 if he would be their starter opening day and he said you don't give up everything they did if you don't plan on starting them immediately. When you trade the farm to move up for a QB in the top 5 you're saying you think that QB is special. All the good young QBs in the league started as rookies Cam, Russell Wilson, Mariota, Winston, Carr and Bridgwater. The best way for Philly to develop Wentz is to throw him out there and learn on the field. If they're going to have a rough year might as well make it a learning process for their young QB so he's more prepared next season.

BTW...

Is anyone else as confused as I am over the world's love of Sam Bradford? He's been barely average over his career. Shaun Hill has better numbers across the board...

Career Stats
Sam Bradford -- Comp%: 60.1 -- TD/INT: 78/52 -- Rating: 81
Shaun Hill -- Comp%: 62.0 -- TD/INT: 49/30 -- Rating: 85.2

Average QBs are very hard to come by.

I don't trade a first and a fourth for an average QB, much less an average QB who's never been able to stay on the field, especially when I have a cheaper guy just like him already on the roster.

He'll get the old RGIII treatment.
Oh. Wait. Wentz does not have blazing speed.

I think it had nothing to do with it.

I think the Eagles were just using Bradford as a placeholder for one year and when they got lucky and Minny was desperate for a QB, they took an offer they couldn't refuse. I don't think they had any intention of ever starting Daniel over Wentz.

lol. Philidelphia took what the desperate Vikings offered them. WTH. Bradford for a 1st is good business...nothing more. He is a 4th notbing more. The Eagles killed them with this one. Anybody remember Herschell. Not so gross...but ...

It's simple. Wentz is starting because Daniels sucked during the preseason. If Daniels could play even a little bit I think they start Daniels and sit Wentz until after the bye week.

I'll say it again...I live up here and saw Chase Daniels play in every game. He was flat out putrid. That is why Wentz started the game.
