In the current pass-first NFL, one thing remains the same. Running the football gets teams to the playoffs. The Dallas Cowboys have reloaded their rushing attack with first-round draft choice Ezekiel Elliott and may be poised to retake the NFC East crown.

Zeke will be a very important part of the attack, but he will not be the reason for the success, should download return to their form of 2014. The key, as it has been for several years, will still be Tony Romo. If Romo plays as effectively as he is capable of playing, and returns to being the Tony Romo of 2014, it would make very little difference who the starting running back is. Make no mistake, Elliott will be better than Mcfaddens or Morris… But either of them would be good enough for Dallas to win if Romo is Romo.

Zeke should be great, but I think Dallas would've made the playoffs if they had drafted any of 3-5 other RBs in later rounds.

Shaq Lawson (or Rankins) AND Laquan Treadwell (or Doctson or other) and then another back would've been sweet

Like they made the playoffs with Murray ....... but they won Super Bowls with a dynamic RB like Emmitt.

Thats the difference.

It's a team game and if the offense plays up to its potential then its worst to first.

They key is can they stay healthy? I think the running game will be hard to stop with a healthy Romo and a mauler offensive line. Don't forget the elite physical WR. Zeke and Morris could be a bruising combo for defenses. I feel like with the departure of Murray we lost that intimidation factor. The 2014 team had the ability to impose its will on other teams. If Zeke can be that elite back with a competent zone scheme backup RB this combo could be deadly. Defenses hate a tough offensive line and a running back. They get in a dog fight with the hogs on the line and they still have to tackle a downhill runner? There's pain the next day lol.

One thing that will keep Romo more healthy would be if he just threw the ball away when there was too much time if he didn't see anything, instead of hold it trying to make the spectacular plays. It sucks to take that away from his never give up attitude he would take less hits and extend his career. I'd like him to be more of a tempo based QB in the late stage of his career. His offensive line also has to stop blowing assignments because they did screw up at times last year.

Murray had a better season than any of Emmitt's

In Murray's first 5 seasons he scored 34 TDs and Emmitt scored 71 in that same time-frame. Emmitt missed 3 games in that time frame and 2 were due to Jerry's stubborn holdout. Murray missed 12 games during that same period and played all 16 in only 1 season. Murray's best season he had 1,845 yards and 13 TDs, Emmitt had 1,773 yards and 25 TDs. Is your statement based upon the fact that he had 72 more yards in their "Best" season. So, for a best season, by your definition 72 more yards equates out better that 12 more TDs?

I'll give you a chance to change best season to one season with 72 more yards.

No one player can take a team from worst to first -- it's still a team sport, regardless of one man's talent.

Aside from that, the contention that the Cowboys are the worst NFL team is a foolish statement in itself.

Early in the season, the running game was not as good and I don't believe that they are as good a pass blocking unit as some of the other OL's in the league. I think they could be and probably will be but they aren't yet.

Early in the season all but the Beard were playing through injuries and were not playing at their normal level.

That's one thing we all am the have revisionist history about. It wasn't just Romo. We were missing so many starters or important rOle players that some of those early season games looked like the third quarter of preseason game 4.

the difference between McFadden and the rest of the running backs and Elliot is that zeke can score at any time from any place on the field they cant.

The most important place Zeke can score from is from the three yard line and in. Last year the jag runners struggled mightily in short yardage.

But won't Romo be a benefactor of Ezekiel Elliott and the offensive line? And won't the offensive line be a benefactor of Ezekiel Elliott and Romo? And won't Zeke be a benefactor of Romo and the offensive line?

Team. Yes, all will benefit but that's really not what being asked is it? The question is, can Zeke take the team from worst to first?

FO likes the marquee player, HC is undeniably more accountable for the offense than the defense. Both parties want to avoid another 4-12 season, and both know they can't depend on Romo forever.
