With the defensive end group coming in for Training Camp...are we still looking for Crawford to be a defensive end...first? I'm not. I actually hope that his nitch is inside at defensive tackle...and is a flex-type move to defensive end, some times.

I think Crawford still might start in the base at RDE. We picked up lot of rush specialists at DE. Should have been Taco as our base RDE, but he hasn't panned out.

Packages dominate play...and hence, Quinn will be seeing most of the snaps opposite of Lawrence.

On passing downs. Probably not run downs. I bet he doesn't break 50% of snaps. Lawrence barely makes 70%.

There are going to be a bunch of disappointed people when Crawford starts and plays a bunch of snaps for us again this season. Whether you think he deserves it or not (I think he's pretty useful even if not a world-beater), we've seen this show before from the F.O. He's a trusted vet (team captain) with versatility and we aren't exactly in cap purgatory. That's a ripe combination for status quo.

And your also discounting the fact that in years past it cost more to cut Crawford than to keep him, where that is now not the case.

Dallas Cowboys: Christian Covington may jolt the roster
https://thelandryhat.com/2019/05/16/dallas-cowboys-christian-covington-jolt/

...NEW SWISS ARMY KNIFE
The last two seasons Crawford has been off-limits as no other defensive linemen possessed his rare ability to handle both spots without a drop-off. The same would have applied to 2019 until Christian Covington signed in free agency.

Dallas added Covington to disrupt the interior, but he’s no one trick pony. Just like Crawford’s rookie year in Dallas, Covington has significant experience at 3-4 defensive end. In four starts and under 500 snaps combined the last two seasons, Covington had more sacks (4.5) than any Texans defensive end not named J.J. Watt.

Assumed to be a better fit in the Cowboys 4-3 defense, Covington could make his fellow Canadian expendable if he shows similar versatility. Releasing Crawford after June 1st would shave $7 million off the 2019 cap and another $8 million in 2020.

Crawford is under contract through 2020 while his challenger becomes a free agent. Though Covington could be re-signed for much less than Crawford’s 2020 cap savings. Let’s also not forget, at 25 years old, the new guy is four years younger.

Here we go..………………...Now I am going to have to hear all offseason how good Covington will be. This years journeyman DT that is going to make all the difference.

I'm never disappointed if a player is out on the field making plays and helping the team win. Main reason Crawford has been mentioned as a june 1st cut is it has been rumored and the move would save 15 mill over the next 2 season. Given some big contract due he becomes a logical target. If these rumors prove to be false so be it but again there is a logic behind it, for me it is not personal.

It's not personal for me either, despite what some would like to believe. I've often talked up the positive aspects of Tyrone Crawford, and the sacrifices that he's made for years, working in whatever spot the team has needed him to, and adjusting his weight and body type up and down to fit that role. Fact is that he is and has always been a 3-4 DE and a round peg in a square hole for years. But he's done everything asked of him, and you can't help but to respect that.

But that also hasn't stopped me from stating the obvious, that he's overpaid and not a true starter on this team. And that his sack production has been manufactured and not the result of his actual talent and performance.

There's a whole big picture with Crawford, not the parts that some fans want to pick and choose. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Maybe. And you are discounting the fact he’s been our second best DL the past couple years.

What are these numbers referring to?

The cost of putting Tyrone Crawford in the Dallas Ring of Honor.

Yes sir, I prefer finding gold at the end of my shovel vs a corpse.
Good morning, my friend!

Ever had some BBQ from Black's in Lubbock....their giant rib is to die for...and their sausage is top of charts. 4th generation now...and it can be ordered if one doesn't wish to travel there.:)

They serve a good selection of locally brewed beer there, if one wishes to taste that great food at the restaurant!

'Something good to sink your teeth into...'

Kind of like this group of young talent on the defensive line right now.:starspin:
