Aikman has always been and will always be a Cowboys fan. It's just that some people are too critical of him being too critical of the team.

aside from my personal belief that he does not belong in the booth calling games, I am sure he is genuine.

"Boy, The Cowboys got away with one right there" o_O

Lol its not like the people that are annoyed with Troy are just making crap up. Its also doesnt mean they dont appreciate him as a player. It only means sometimes maybe he should stop trying to sell it.

Dak Prescott helped lead the Dallas Cowboys to a dominant 2016 season followed by a strong performance in his first career playoff game, and Troy Aikman loves it.

The Hall of Famer certainly knows what comes with playing the game's most important position, especially for the Cowboys. It's a unique stage that Prescott was thrust onto and in a very veteran-like fashion, owned it as if he had seen it all before.

So when the three-time Super Bowl winner spoke with Sportsradio 1310 AM/96.7 FM The Ticket, he had nothing but praise for the former Mississippi State standout.

As transcribed by Dallas Morning News:

On the loss to the Packers and the text message he dropped in Prescott's inbox:

Aikman: "In that game, to have so many great performances by key people, I just don't think anyone should feel bad about that, and I sent Dak a text the other day and let him know how proud I was, not only of his performance [against Green Bay], but also the way that he's performed all year long. A quote that I gave on a radio show the other day was kind of taken out of context, was what I noticed on social media. I was asked if this season for the Cowboys was a disappointing season. I said, 'Well, the way in which the season ended was disappointing.' I mean, there's no one in that locker room that was not disappointed by what happened [against Green Bay].

"Dear Dak, I used to beat Green Bay in the playoffs. But hey, I'm proud of you for trying. Love, Troy. P.S. I'm not gay."

I've always found the criticism of Aikman kind of silly.

Troy is still bitter over Jimmy leaving the Cowboys and blames Jerry for that and will never forgive Jerry. Combine that with his desire to not look like a homer for fans of other teams that will always hate Troy no matter what he does, Troy always loves to take shots at the Cowboys regardless of how well they are doing and anytime a bad call goes against Dallas...he'll claim it was a 'good call' and vice versa.

Then you combine that with Joe Buck, who just trolls both teams whenever he can and you get a mess of an announcing team that I would rather put on mute than listen to. Just call the game the way the game is. Madden and Summerall had a lot of ties to different teams and outside of Madden gushing over Brett Favre, they made a fine announcing team that greatly helped build the popularity of the NFL. Buck and Aikman have served to annoy the fans rather than make their calling of the game informative and interesting.

I take anything and everything Troy says about the Cowboys with a grain of salt.

I just think Troy is probably the worst of all the lead color guys. Collinsworth, Gruden, even Simms are better imo.

Who would've known? Troy sounds like a Cowboys fan. I found this to be a great read and a great outlook on our season by Troy.

I wonder has he ever texted Tony?

In my opinion, some of the criticism he receives is reasonable but the bulk of it is... extreme. He's not unique in that way though.
After I watched his Football Life on NFLN...it reinforced my beliefs.

IRVIN is a Cowboys fan. Troy is starting to come around and Deion can suck it.

I honestly don't hear any of that in Troy's comments and commentary on the Cowboys. But I don't want to get into a multiple-page argument about whether Troy is or isn't biased against the Cowboys.
So your perspective is noted.

Watch A Football Life with Troy and he was clearly unhappy and still unhappy about Jimmy leaving and Switzer coming in and feeling that Jerry was to blame. I can accept Troy's point of view on being unhappy about Jimmy leaving, but the reality is that it wasn't 100% on Jerry. It was 50% Jimmy as well and in the end, Troy completely supported Jimmy to the point where he seriously considered making a comeback after retirement to play for...the freaking Dolphins.

And you can hear it in his commentary as it has been noted here on numerous occasions. If there's a terrible call against Dallas, 9 times out of 10 he'll justify it and call it a 'good call.' If it's a call that goes in Dallas' favor...even if it's questionable...9 times out of 10 he'll complain that the refs missed the call.

He couldn't get enough of Carson Wentz this year and always makes it a point to apologize for the Eagles. This is sad because no other team's fans were as vicious and as crude to Troy, Emmitt and Irvin (they cheered when Irvin was paralyzed) and Troy doesn't get it...no matter how much he sticks up for the Eagles, their fans will always despise him and act vicious and crude towards him.

Compare this to Summerall and Madden. Summerall was objective about everybody and really didn't editorialize his announcing. Meanwhile, Madden could really look at the small parts of the game that go unnoticed and was a fan of football players, football coaches and football teams. You could make a case for Madden being a 'homer' for the 85 Bears, Brett Favre, the Cowboys in the 90's, the Giants and Skins in the 80's, the Niners, etc.

Far more enjoyable to watch than Buck who constantly screws up and serves to troll both teams and Aikman who goes out of his way to not come off as a Cowboys apologist. Personally, I'll take Chris Spielman doing commentary any day of the week over Troy.

I watched the "A Football Life" episode about Aikman. I still don't hear any bitterness towards the Cowboys in his broadcasts. For the most part, the Cowboys haven't been that good while Aikman has been a broadcaster. Fans want the commentators to treat the Cowboys like the Patriots. But we've won two playoff games in 21 years. I'm sorry, but I don't see why Aikman should bend over backwards to praise us when we essentially haven't done anything worth praising.
And I've heard Aikman being very complimentary of the Cowboys.
Again, this is all a matter of perception and perspective. And as much as fans want to accuse Troy of bias, we/they have as much bias as he does because we want Troy, Buck and company to relive our glory years and tell us how fantastic our feet smell when everyone can clearly see we've been standing in a pile of .... for lo these many years.
