Dallas Cowboys Must Cash in on This Season

http://thelandryhat.com/2017/01/04/dallas-cowboys-must-cash-season/

Seasons like these don’t happen often for the Dallas Cowboys and they need to cash in on their stellar 2016 by making a Super Bowl run.

The Dallas Cowboys lost a game last Sunday, but came away winners because they suffered no significant injuries. After all, that was kind of the point in Week 17, to get out of Philadelphia healthy.

Another thing that occurred on Sunday, was the 2017 opponents for the Cowboys got set. By winning the NFC East, Dallas plays the first place team in each division in the NFC, as well as both entire West (AFC & NFC) divisions next year. The schedule was broken down here by Steven Mullenax and as you might expect, it looks like a much tougher version than this season’s slate.

That’s why this season is so important. 13-3 seasons don’t come around often and the Cowboys are one of three teams that hasn’t seen the NFC Championship game in the last 20 years! It’s a list they shouldn’t be on, one that also includes the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions.

During that span, normally sad sack teams like the New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made the NFC title game and the Seattle Seahawks have become a dominant team. The Cowboys, however, are nowhere to be found.

It’s why Dallas cannot allow home field advantage to slip through their fingers and fail to make the Super Bowl. You cannot just say they will be back and better in the next few seasons because of their youth at quarterback with Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott, you just don’t know. I’m guessing the Miami Dolphins thought they were going to have more shots a championship with Dan Marino too, but it never happened.

Look at what the Cowboys did just two years ago and everyone felt they were going to be perennial Super Bowl contenders, but injuries decimated their chances in 2015. It’s impossible to know what’s going to happen from year to year in the NFL, so the Cowboys need to take advantage how good they are now, especially seeing how daunting the schedule appears next season...

This team is being built for the Long Haul and it's about time

relax and enjoy the next 7 - 10 years

We are back to a place that a lot of you have never known

Personally as of this very day, I don't care about the next 7 to 10 years, I want the Cowboys to get this Championship drought off their backs now. You're not guaranteed this kind of season for the next 7 to 10 years

The only season that counts is the one you're playing now.
There's no guarantee that the Cowboys even sniff the playoffs next year.

True no guarantees I agree but hopefully this team comes out loose and not as tight as a drum as some fans are. Yes it is a big chance but this team can't let the moment overwhelm them. They are a young team with a lot of talent and I think they do have a good chance at being a good team for a good while

Winning this year would be great, but I don't think we've seen how good this team can be. Our O-line will be dominant for years to come, Dak and Zeke are still rookies, Dez has some juice left, and we're still building our defense. This isn't like 2014.

Yes, the Patriots don't win the Super Bowl every season but they put themselves in position to do it most years.

If teams get into the "only chance" mindset, then they'll likely have problems. Coaches and players can't get to far away from their mindset of regular season games.

GMs get into the mindset that this is a must win season or "window" and then make dumb decisions (Joey Galloway, Roy WR Williams, Vikings and Hershel Walker).

We all think that but unless you're New England you never know.

If it's about right now, then there's a better QB on the bench. That's just the simple truth.

but the current QB on the field went 11 straight wins and 13-3. thats the issue. a good issue to have but its not that simple.

dont get me wrong Romo is the better QB but it isn't that simple because of what I just stated. add to the fact that it be bad to bench Dak with his record. Just not the way it works. He gets hurt. Sure come right on in Romo. Romo competes with Dak next year for QB spot (not saying this will happen but)... by all means go for it!

Romo said it himself... its a meritocracy.

Dak & Zeke are both well rested. As are many of our other starters on both sides of the ball.

The run will commence one week from Sunday.

Ok, that's fine. But forget the Super Bowl. He's not ready.

LOL cause Romo has just as many as Dak right now.

good thing this coaching staff doesnt handle their players starting with hyperboles like you do erod! good thing.

not Dak's fault Tony keeps getting hurt and it put him in this situation.

Thems the facts

There was a time playoffs were given championship game was expected in the Super Bowl appearance was never out of the question

Of course I want to win this year but it's not the end of the world there's no way this team is one and done.

I'm more excited about this draft and offseason then I was last year's and that's hard to fathom

Hard work is done fine-tuning time baby

There are no guarantees in the NFL that your team will continue to improve in the future & that you'll have plenty of chances at getting to & winning a Super Bowl. You make the best of the chance you get WHEN you get it.

Yes - the early 90s dynasty was here and gone in a relative flash. So were many other dominant teams. Cowboys can't think there will always be other chances.

I agree with the idea that we need to take advantage of this opportunity because they do not come around often. I disagree with the premise that we need to take advantage of this opportunity because next year we have a tougher schedule. A lot can change in a year, as we have fortunately learned ourselves, and those teams may not present much of a threat next season.

Honestly going into this season I thought we had a tough schedule, Commanders twice, Bengals, Steelers, Green Bay, Vikings. All playoff teams plus Ravens, Giants twice, these are teams that usually are good or in the Ravens case we have never beat them. With all that we went into the last week of the season being 4 points away from undefeated.

So we'll worry about next year when next year happens, we need to take advantage of this opportunity because we have HFA throughout and we're on a roll.
