Dallas Cowboys ON SI: Pickens' projected contract

We will soon find out how much George Pickens wants to be a Dallas Cowboy or go seek record pay elsewhere after the 2026 season.
I don't think he's that dumb. He saw how 9 games with Dak yields his entire season catching passes from lower tier QBs. We should just pay him what he's worth and get the chips on the table for 2026-27. ALL-IN!

Not even close to Moss. Moss was better as a rookie than Pickens is now.
Pickens is barely 24. A young pup. Getting better each year, each day. He's maturing. Yes, he's pretty close to Moss. NOBODY is Randy, so I get that, but even guys on tv brought that name up as a comp. Nate Burleson DG did, and others. So I'm not the only one. George is the better route runner than Randy.

I get exactly what you are saying, Flam, but how much do you trust the player ON and OFF the field? Just to be clear, I have zero issue with paying him Lamb money but we can't deny he had a maturity issue with the Steelers and frankly, some are still showing up. IF he can continue playing at a high AND stay clean through 2026, he can write his own contract in 2027.
I don't trust the player totally. His maturity has to grow. It comes with the territory. Look at where we are with the projected cap next year. A penalty here and there isn't going to hurt us as much as a tag. We can't have him at almost 30M against the cap next year. If they extend him, release Diggs, it's pretty much a wash. Diggs pays for Pickens in cap money. Then we hope for the best. The more you try to avoid risk, the higher in price you pay towards the cap and real dollars.

Jerry tried to do an end around on Micah's agent and take advantage of Micah. That's all on Jerry.
Yes,true, so why even agree to the meeting at all? Why even agree on the parameters of a deal, then shake on it? Micah is an adult supposedly, so he's not culpable? Bothers me because your word is your bond. I'm old-school. I get it, it looks shady by Jerry. He shouldn't have done it.

There are contenders above us who need a WR. He won't have to dumpster dive for a job.

I'm not so sure about your take on Pittsburgh fans. It seems like they're pretty pissed. Now, if they make the SB, then they'll forget about him. And as good as Pickens is, and he's contributing a lot, he wasn't making a difference in the W/L column. It's the defense that's doing that.
My statement about Steelers fans was sarcastic. It was in response to insiders laughing that we gave up a 3rd for Pickens. Would you bet any amount of money that the 3rd round pick the Steelers got for Pickens will be a better player? I wouldn't.

Pickens wasn't a difference maker in Pittsburgh. But he absolutely is here. The primary reason is the QB throwing him the ball.

He'd def be dangerous in KC, LA, San Diego etc. IDK where else he'd go outside that. Ravens? Bangals don't need him. Philly might try to go after him if they cut Brown, but outside of the the first 3 I mentioned, he'd def rather play with Dak and our offense.

We're told that the meeting wasn't supposed to be about a contract. So he gets him in there and ambushes him with contract talk. Micah says sure Jerry, but talk to my agent. Jerry tries to pressure him into accepting this backdoor deal and Micah says, nah, I didn't sign anything. The play blew up in Jerry's face. I have no idea why Jerry isn't facing disciplinary consequences for it.

Well since you weren't serious, I agree. But it's not like us fans don't have any bad takes on things.

Buffalo, and Tampa likely won't have Evans going forward. There's a few. All I'm saying is that we aren't his only good option.

Would I like to see Pickens’ talent remain on this team? YES.

But that’s not the entire picture. The odds of Pickens pulling a TO at some point in time seem astronomically high. When that happens the Cowboys will want to rid themselves of him just as Pittsburgh did.

Right now Pickens’ trade value is extremely high. It could climb a bit more. But at some point I think the price will predictably decline.

Then you would need to factor in his cap charge on his new contract. It’s going to consume a huge chunk of the cap, and the opportunity cost might be as high as a first and a second round pick and rookie wage scale cap relief.
I coached competitive softball for 20 years. Every year I would get some kid that would come tryout for my team and I would have multiple people telling me... oh you dont want that player, or their parents are toxic, stay away from them. And every year I woud add that player and never have any problem with them.

I remember this one year a teams opposing shortstop was cussing her coach up and down during the game because we were running hi teams arse off the field and he didnt know what to do to stop us. Keep in mind, this happened OFTEN, when an opposing coach did not know how to defend us on the bases or with our ability to hit away or play small ball. This girl was pissed, and rightfully so as the coach was yelling at his players, but it wasnt their faut, it was his fault. That same ss came and tried out for my team the following season and I gladly took her and only had 1 minor issue with her in 3 years, and it was basically because she was too competitive and wanted to fight a kid that put on a pretty hard tag on her.

Moral to my story? Pickens was pissed in steelerland just like AJ Brown and now Justin Jefferson are pissed. When you play with crap at the qb and you are a stud and want to win... it causes problems.

Pickens its getting extended to a huge deal... better start getting used to is.

Not just a running game it's the offensive lines blocking they're opening up holes for the run game they're blocking long enough for those long developing plays to happen for the receiver so that should be the Cowboys focus and yes then you sign Williams to a reasonable contract to make sure you have your run game set and try to get Pickens back in the mix but it should not be looked as as a desperate move and overpay the man...

It all works together really but it starts up front then you have to have the quarterback then you have to have the run game so yeah if we're talking about the least concerned area that would be overpaying your number two wide receiver even if he's playing like a number one we have all the other components..
Yep, everything works together. I think for the first time in many years we are actually realky close to having a real playoff team that’s a threat to win it all. If we can keep lamb and Pickens, our trio of DT’s all together. That’s a huge thing. I’d love to keep RB the same but he’s earned a nice contract and this is his first chance to get paid. I don’t know if it’s possible to keep him. Hope we can. Then we need Jerry to build on what’s he’s done this year. It’s hard to praise Jerry but this year he’s really did a nice job. Wish it could have came sooner but deals are there when they are there. He now has to hit on these 2 picks, or parlay them into more picks, but we have to get it right. Personally I’d rather have 2 realky goid players than 3-4 picks. But who knows who will be there when we pick. No tacos, get good solid prospects. Don’t reach for need. I’d rather pick a guy at a position that’s not a big need, but get a great player.

I can't speak on that but my guess is, it requires much proof to enforce it.

I can’t disagree with anything you say. Pickens is playing like the top receiver in football but we know Dak, CeeDee, and the offensive scheme is behind his breakout year. Jerry and David are going to have to find some middle ground. Hopefully they can before free agency begins.
Did you watch Nacua? And he doesn't have Lamb across from him drawing double coverage.
