Dallas Cowboys ON SI: Pickens' projected contract

Are you saying they don't pay taxes when they play out of state? Or that guys who live in no state tax states have to pay taxes when they play in one of the bloodsucking states? That is wholly un-American right there.
The Jock Tax requires players to pay taxes based on the state in which they perform their work for any given game.

Obviously, if all of your home games are in a state with income tax, you’ll pay more.

Our players have a game in Arizona, they pay Arizona state income taxes.

41 states have an income tax so Texas is an exception.

Note though, there are no free rides. Texas has some of the highest property taxes the country, a higher sales tax and some unusual business taxes. The state has to get their money somewhere.

And I will blast ignorant fans who think they know but actually know jack squat.
I wager you don’t know who manages our cap and negotiates our contracts. I do.

His only other job was working as an equipment manager for the University of Arkansas. He had a couple of internships as an engineering major before joining Jerry’s lifelong loyalty club, known as the Cowboys front office.

And we all know Stephen is not a finance guy, but also an engineer.

Name him.

I believe it. Today's players have no team loyalty anymore. Bunch of record seeking, money hungry backstabbers.

I think you missed a spot.

While he may be right I always wonder why guys don't to the math on state income taxes when considering "getting paid." When Dez "got paid" he and Demaryius Thomas got the same deal. 5 for 70. However Thomas's deal was in Colorado where about 5% of that was going to the tax man. So he lost 3.5 million to state taxes. So in essence Dez's deal netted him that much more in his pockets. Now fast forward to today and the numbers are now essentially double. So guys signing for 200 million in California.. where the state tax max is like 11% and well you see .. That's 22 million dollars to the state. So they collect 178 million. Still A nice haul but guys in Texas, Florida and Tennessee signing the exact same deals get 22 million more in their pockets. I know Cali is an extreme one but I think there are others in that 10% range too. Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia.. I think all of those fall in the the ridiculous state tax category. Folks who live in those states feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks to my daughter the ballerina I know that Washington State and Missouri tax out the ying yang too.
I read somewhere once and I don’t remember where, but a players weekly pay in state income taxes is based on where he plays that week. So if he played in AZ he would be subject to AZ state tax and not CO. He would only be subject to 8 weeks at minimum in CO. So at the end of the day it may not be that much in terms of savings.

....he's got it good here. Good vibes from brotherhood, quality QB, top 3 offense, defense that's moving up.

I cant see him, wanting to be somewhere else. I could be wrong. I thought Gemini Parsons was cowboy lifer.
I’m the complete opposite of this thought. I never for once thought he wanted to be here. I for sure felt as soon as Micah could make it happen he’d be out. Some of his comments always rubbed me the wrong way. Never felt like he wanted to be here.

I vaguely remember them kicking around those tax laws way back when. I thought it had gotten squashed. But 80% of states (41 of 50) DO have state income tax. So all three teams in California, the one in Washington State, the one in Vegas, the one in Missou, the one in Illinois, the one in AZ, the one in Michigan... the one in Carolina, the one in Massachusetts, the one in DC, the one in Baltimore, the two in Pennsylvania, the two in Jersey and on and on and on. Basically the Cowboys, Texans, Titans, Bucs, Dolphins and Jags are the only teams that play in no state tax states. Who am I leaving out? Basically 80% of their games will be played where they will be taxed. So it's not 3.5 million that Jefferson loses to the tax man.. Only 3 million.. LOL! Meanwhile guys who play in no state tax states play a minimum of 50% and as many as 70% of THEIR games with no income tax. So they're still coming out ahead.. even if by a slimmer margin.. an extra million is an extra million..

I can’t blame them. Why should Jerry make billions and they make 100 million and get called greedy?
You don't get it brother. The owners run a business where they have a salary cap restricting them on how much to pay overall for their team. The problem is the NFL has no position limits, so it allows the players and agents to yearly keep seeking ridiculous overpaid new contracts that teams simply can't afford if they want to keep a playoff capable team intact. The players and their greediness is what is destroying teams from being able to be playoff competitive.

Except the Texas players have to pay the much higher property tax on their big homes for 100% of their games.

I just read up on him. Truly concerning. You're right. Makes one wonder why Jerry doesn't hire a true finance genius to work for him and handle player contracts?
Well, it’s because Jerry hires people he’s comfortable with. It’s why we had Garrett for 10 years.

The single most important qualification to be with Jerry for a long long time is loyalty and a willingness to go along.

There are numerous stories of people getting iced out for disagreeing with or challenging Jerry.

It’s the reason why we always say that the biggest requirement of being a HC here is a willingness to put up with Jerry’s nonsense.

I’m sure that holds true at all levels.

And, for this guy, being a Razorback has to help, lol

We will soon find out how much George Pickens wants to be a Dallas Cowboy or go seek record pay elsewhere after the 2026 season.
That's a false dicotomy

We will soon find out how SOON Jerry Jones wants his Cowboys to have their next evaluation at $15 Billion or penny pinch George Pickens contract with Cap restraint rhetoric...and delay the inevitable

He's done enough not well that there are legit concerns. He needs to realize that. Another year of good behavior will go a long way towards erasing that. Or he realizes that it's going to cost him in his pocket because of it.
I do think the fact that he was traded for behavior concerns makes it less likely that he would pull a Parsons. He's created quite a bit of goodwill with his play, so it's best to not do anything to get himself relabeled as a malcontent. Of course, sometimes these players don't care about that. They just want their money and know someone will give it to them.

Pickens has Parsons agent negotiating his next contract. We can talk about Jerry being cheap or Pickens being greedy but there is no way Pickens plays on the tag next season. I do think Jerry will be careful what he says to the media but this will be another long hold out.
I don't think so. Parsons just wanted to be traded. There was nothing really we can do. Pickens seems to want to be here. An agent represents the best for his player. Otherwise, Pickens can always find another agent.
