You are happy with the offense. Let me ask you a question. How was it built?
If you want to say it was by design, I'll concede on Dez and Tyron.

Zack Martin was the 4th, and if Jerry had his way 5th option, behind Barr, Donald, Shazier, and Manziel.
Travis Frederick was a result of panicking, trading down half a round, and having no one left on their board, so they took their top 2nd round player.
La'el Collins was a freak occurrence where a 1st round talent was associated with a tragedy/scandal and went undrafted.
Ezekiel Elliott was the result of a 4-12 season.
Dak Prescott was/is a miracle. The team tried to move up and take two other quarterbacks and failed. They "settled" on Dak in the late 4th round, passing on him 4 times.

By the way, this was all confirmed by Jerry and Stephen after each draft since they can't help themselves from publicly discussing their draft strategy each year.

Hardly a plan. I'll give them credit for taking the guys when on the clock, but this was not the design each year going in.

So what you're saying is the team built through the draft?

Glad we agree.

Yup seems like everytime there's big free agent news tied to us it's because one of our good players is leaving. And then you'll get in update of Dallas signed Brice Butler. Team is a draft upgrades team now.
Bargain basement shopping!!!! Excuse after excuse.

Glad we agree.

The offense was built by stuffing the vast majority of high picks into it. Dez, 1st rounder. Tyron Smith, 1st rounder, Frederick, 1st rounder, Martin, 1st rounder, Zeke, 1st rounder. We're not going to be able to build our defense like that unless we're expecting success 5 years down the road, and by that time, we'll have to replace our offense.

Actually I just think this FO realizes that 2018 -2020 is when we have both barrels loaded cap wise to legitimately beat New England in the Super Bowl.

Spend nothing, draft decent to maybe great,, and have loads of cap cash to put us there legitimate style in the very near future.

I'm not being a wise guy, just looking at the landscape, and like it or not, the Patriots have cornered the market on how to get there and win.

Everyone wants to get to the Superbowl, but only the victor gets the ring, and right now, not many teams can compete with a team that just won the SB and has the cap to spend on upper tier FAs, and they draft pretty good as well.

But age is creeping up on Brady, and we have a young stud future QB, that we can put in prime position to win multiple rings.

We are getting hit pretty hard right now, it looks bad to most fans, but every FA loss is being evaluated properly considering our cap situation, I'm good with it,, not seeing the knee jerk reaction from the FO, that's a good thing.

I want to build a team that can dominate this league, and we have a very good core, not worried about who we are loosing, teams are overpaying because they basically have to, that's not how I want to see this team operate.

I get the fact the we always want to win every year,, its just not how the game is played anymore. You need a chronological approach, and an evaluation of when you can step in and dominate,,,
We are this close, core in place,, expendables on their way out on over priced contracts, would have been replaced next year anyway.

Most wont agree, but I'm a patient old fisherman, and can see the big fish in the pond.

The problem is, now is the time to spend, before we have to pay Dak and Zeke.

Great post. People complaining about us not being like the Pats....and I look around and say you're right from a talent perspective at QB and Coach they outclass us....but we're operating exactly like they do from a roster building perspective.

People say...GO SPEND BIG MONEY...and yet the last four bigger money deals we have done (Dez, Hardy Crawford and Carr) people complain endlessly about.

It's all quite silly.

What's worse is what we've done on defense and sign FA's in hopes of 'winning now' and 'finding the missing piece.'

We traded up and lost draft picks on Claiborne. We signed Carr to a huge deal. We took a big chance on Randy Gregory. We traded up and gave away picks for DeMarcus Lawrence.

Meanwhile on offense, we stayed put on Murray and let him go and eventually landed EE. We didn't rush things at QB and got Dak. We traded up for very little to move up 2 spots to get Dez. Beasley was a UDFA and T-Will was part of pick we acquired when we decided to not take Sharrif Floyd and get Frederick who is arguably the best center in the league.

Witten was a player we waited on and got in the 3rd round, Free we waited on and got in the 4th ruond. We waited and Martin fell in our laps. We got Leary and Collins in UDFA and we just stayed put and got Tyron with the 9th overall pick.

Our entire starting offense is home grown and it's far better than our defense which is a hodge podge of home-grown and players we brought in as FA's, not to forget that we traded up for some of the home grown talent and lost picks int he process.

Our defense is an assortium of castoffs from other teams, 2nd round question marks, problem children and lower draft picks. I don't think it's fair to compare it's structure to the offense which is majority 1st rounders. Even Lael Collins was a projected 1st rounder. The reaches on defense occured because we allocated msot of the 1st rounders to offense. On the other hand, our defense is filled with guys who can't stay on the field due to injury or drugs. If Claiborne leaves, the only 1st rounder on our defense is Byron Jones.
