Your list was looking pretty good until I got to the wide receivers. Drew Pearson at number 5? He’s number 2 on my list. Dez only had three good seasons and isn’t going to sniff the Hall of Fame. You must not have been following the Cowboys when Drew Pearson was playing. By the way, I wouldn’t be putting Everson Walls ahead of Cornell Green who’s in the Hall of Fame. Walls may have gotten a lot of INT‘s, but he also got burned a lot. I wouldn’t be putting Newman ahead of Green either

Dez does have the most receiving TDs for any Cowboys player.

Just saying..

Dexter Coakley over Micah Parsons?

Micah already has more pro bowls, way more All-Pros, plus Hall of Famer monitor:

PFR has a system where they accumulate statistics and accreditations to come up with a score for your career. The average hall of fame OLB has a score of 103. Dexter Coakley’s career came out to 34. Micah in only 4 seasons is already at 36.

However, that’s not near good enough to put him ahead of Drew Pearson. Dez was a great player for only three seasons and he’s best remembered for a catch that didn’t count. We didn’t win anything with Dez and we only made the playoffs with him 3 times. Drew Pearson was arguably the greatest third down receiver of the 70s and he was part of the greatest play in Cowboys history the Hail Mary. That play helped lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl. Pearson helped lead the Cowboys to a couple of Super Bowls, winning one of them.

My son's name is Witten. He's six, and plays bball right now. He got a little cocky, so I pulled him aside to tell him to cut that ish out, and part of the reason I named him Witten was because he was humble, and a hard worker, and not a show-off.

I agree..

Irvin 1

Pearson 2

Dez 3

Lamb has the potential to get to 2. He’s the only offensive player in our playoff games who doesn’t spaz out.

Okay Drew Pearson needs to be third on the wide receiver list.
Herb Adderly was way better than Terrence Newman.
Leroy Jordan is first
Herschel Walker and Dwayne Thomas we're better than Zeke Elliott.

And Danny White is way ahead of either Romo or Dak.

Chan gaily was a better Coach than Jason Garrett he just didn't get a chance.
Even Switzer was better Garrett just sucked

I guess it depends if you count Parsons as a linebacker. Most would probably count him as a defensive end.

Why are so many guys with no rings ranked higher than guys with multiple rings? A lot of those latter guys had to be pretty good.

I dunno, I'm thinking that the 70's might seem a little ancient.

At DE, you have to put Harvey Martin at #1.......and put Demarco Ware at #2.

For all practical purposes, Ware was a DE playing out of position in a 3-4. Everyone knew what he was going to do.

At #3, it was Ed "Too Tall" Jones. I'll put it this way; some QBs (the shorter ones) stopped throwing on his side.

Now you can put in Haley at #4 and complete it with George Andrie at #5

George Andrie, five consecutive Pro Bowls, five consecutive double digit sack seasons. he missed two starts in the first ten years of his career, all with the Cowboys.

Andrie played in 17 playoff games, including two NFL championships (pre-merger), two conference championship games and two Super Bowls. He scored the first Cowboys TD in the Ice Bowl on a fumble recovery.

During that brutal defensive playoff struggle between the Cowboys and Lions in 1970 it was Andrie who scored the safety as the Cowboys won 5-0.

But that's only my opinion which I don't consider better or worse, just different.

Seriously, WR?

No Tony Hill?

Hill was the Cowboys leading receiver for 8 consecutive seasons. Only Michael Irvin can match that number. No other receiver has surpassed it....yet.

We can jettison TO. What did he ever really do for us? Only a fifth of his entire career was played as a Dallas Cowboy. If we were going that route, then we would have to add Hall of Famer Lance Alwoth, alias "Bambi"

So I would put Dez at #5 and insert Hill at #4 with Pearson at #3. Let's give "Original 88" his due. Hall of Famers, first in line.

Good list Quick. The only changes I would make are minor. Here are my changes:
  • WRs - Drew Pearson needs to be higher than Dez. He is an NFL HOFer. And Drew was a big part of winning 10 playoff games in less than decade including 3 NFC championship wins and a SB. Dez played in one playoff win.
  • RBs - Don Perkins needs to be on the top 5 list. He’s a member of the Cowboys Ring of Honor.
  • Safeties- I can’t leave Cornell Green off the top 5. Green was a 3 time first team All Pro in the 70s and was on the Cowboys 25th anniversary team. Brock Marion can’t compare to Green.
Thanks for doing this! Nice work.

I didn't want you to think that I was just here to criticize. Sorry 'bout that.

Overall solid lists. Half of them I would completely agree with, the rest not previously mentioned, perhaps one change each.

I would say Ware was far less a LB than Micah, and this still has him as a LB
I disagree with that. Ware was specifically drafted to play OLB in the 3-4 by Bill Parcells. We used the 3-4 through 2012 since Wade Phillips succeeded Parcells as coach and Rob Ryan used a base 3-4 as well. He did not move to full-time defensive end until 2013 when Monte Kiffin switched us to the 4-3.

Parsons was drafted as a linebacker, but other than his rookie year, he has spent the majority of his time at defensive end in a 4-3 defense.

Cornell Green is a real tricky one. Yes, he did play more seasons as a CB and he received more accolades.

However, he was a strong safety when the Cowboys made their first Super Bowl runs in 1970 and 1971 and he was still going to Pro Bowls. He changed to strong safety when they picked up Herb Adderly.

In the end, I've always thought he made larger contributions as a safety. I also feel the same way about Charlie Waters when he was converted.

I would replace Brock Marion with Cornell Green in the safety list and then replace Cornell Green on the CB list with Kevin Smith. Kevin could have been a Hall of famer had it not been for that devastating foot injury. I truly believe that. He manhandled Jerry Rice when they played.
