Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant sued by state Sen. Royce West over $60,000 in damage to rental home

A lawsuit filed by state Sen. Royce West alleges Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant caused so much damage to a DeSoto home that West had to spend more than $60,000 for repairs.

West discovered the 6,400-square-foot home “littered with trash and feces, missing blinds and shutters, with cracked windows and blackened carpeting” after Bryant moved out in January, and his lawyers say Bryant refuses to accept responsibility for the damage.

West is seeking between $100,000 and $200,000 in damages.

The office for Bryant’s agent, Kim Miale, said Wednesday that she has no comment.

Lease documents show Bryant was paying $4,720 a month for the home in a gated community, which he started renting in September 2013.

The lease required Bryant to keep the property clean, and to leave it in the same condition as when he started renting it, except for normal wear and tear.

Don't rent from Royce West. He'd probably charge you 10 g's for some caulking around the baseboards.

Yes, I would expect a kid with millions of dollars to be the perfect renter. Does Dez get any consideration for the votes dude got bragging he had a pro bowl Cowboy as a renter?

Does the senator have pics of the place BEFORE Dez rented it? If not, he isn't going to get very far with the suit.

I would think that Dez would have tried to work out some kind of deal though, it does look like the place was not maintained assuming that it was in good shape when Dez rented it out. And seriously Dez, hire a freaking maid. You have the money to do it.

Could it also be that some other people used (squatters, teenagers partying, etc.) it after Dez was done with the lease? It has happened a couple of times where I have lived. In fact there was a house for sale and no one was living in it. So some teenage kids broke in and threw a party.

David Wells is Royce West's hatchet man. Wells was the one who was Dez's manager and the one who leaked Dez's personal business to the DMN and ESPN when Dez decided to replace Wells and Royce as agent and counsel and go with Roc Nation.

They were the ones that put Dez up in that house. I hate people that take advantage of the weak and ignorant so you can imagine what I think of them.

You've never seen a house that has seen squatters and the like. That is obvious.

Houses like that don't have running water and electricity normally. Think of what people without working toilets and light high on crack might do. It's a lot more than stained carpet.

My tenants sign a condition report form as part of the lease when they move in. The burden of proof is on the tenant to prove they didn't cause the damage, not the other way around.
