@bkight13 Nice format, thanks for posting this.

Looks pretty evident to me that the game plan barring injury on the DL is to replace DE/LB Elliott with Demontre Moore after two games and DT Price with DT Irving after 4 games.

I don't like having only 8 OL especially with Chaz Green injury concerns.

If Crawford can't go on Sunday night, DT depth is a concern. Need Paea and Collins to stay healthy and I worry about them getting worn down in the 3rd and 4th quarter. Need the offense to grind out drives and keep the defense off the field.

I still think it would have been best for the team to put Hitchens on IR-designated to return. I would hate to see Rico on IR-designated to return. But if he really can't play for 6 weeks or so, he has to go to IR-designated to return because the Cowboys need the depth..

Certain things I just can't understand in the NFL. One is the weed policy. The other is the 53-man roster and the 45-man active roster on game day. I think it should be 53 plus 3 (K, LS, and P are exemptions to the roster). And all players on the roster should be active on game days. It just makes too much sense especially with all the concussion and injury worry. Yeah, you may have an advantage to one team who has all players healthy vs a team with 5 injuries (53 healthy bodies vs 48 healthy bodies). But, that is the way the cookie crumbles. Injuries affect the game in so many ways. The more players active the better the competition is and the safer the game is for the players. Teams are just spread too thin on game day and it causes a lot of players to play hurt since no one else is available.

Thanks...... great thoughts.

I am worried about the DL too....... Crawford is big

Hitchens should go IR-DTR...... too thin at LB already...... is Durant ready?

If Rico has a severe concussion then IR-DTR is ok since he wouldn't practice anyways but it better be real and not a stash

It is actually a 46 man game day roster and that is nuts.........just let everyone dress including Practice Squad( if they play one play then they have to be added to 53 man for at least 3 weeks)

I think Price is going to be given ample opportunity to earn his keep here. If he can shed blocks, anchor, be disruptive on the pass rush, cause fumbles, etc. (and he showed all of that in preseason) he'll be on the team for the long haul.

While I think your replacement strategy of Moore for Elliott and Irving for Price is as reasonable as the next view, I postulated in another thread that I wouldn't be surprised to see Benwikere cut in two to four weeks. Just an opinion, mind you, but I also would be surprised to see someone like Tapper or Mayowa go as well. Not necessarily something I want to happen, though.

I'm tending towards that but GB uses their OLB in coverage a lot. I'm curious how they deploy him because if he is a DE I don't understand why they didn't get a LB.
I was thinking a blitzing SAM as well but like you said we really need a MIKE since Hitchens is hurt

They say Elliott's best asset was the ability to rush the passer but really a STer

I agree that it looks like DE/LB Elliott is only a temporary stand-in for Moore. I don't agree on Price. The only NT-type we have on the roster is Paea. (Collins has the size for it, but I don't think we'll use him there.) So I think someone else will be cut when Irving returns, depending on how Price is playing, of course.

As far as DT depth goes. Price will get some snaps to relieve Paea (because NT isn't really that hard to learn in this system despite Thornton not adapting quickly). We played Charlton inside on some passing downs and Lawrence can do it to if needed, so we'll be able to give Collins some breaks.

If we're not going to put Hitchens on IR (which I agree that we should), then I have no problem putting Rico on it because we still would have one spot left for a designated return.

He's a 4.76 athlete so he would fit in with the other SAMs. I'm just concerned about depth at the other 2 spots. If Durant or Jaylon goes down we are caught with our pants down.

My hope is that, at WR, Dallas can plug in any combination of starters/backups and not lose a step, not have to alter the offense so that "starter" and "backup" are just labels on paper but don't show on the field.

Interior DLine may be the "deepest" spot on the defensive side of the line. I have no doubt that Dline can hold runners, but if they can't get strong, consistant pressure on the passer, QBs like Manning will pick them apart.

I hope the rookie CBs can get up to speed quick and show their stuff early.

Yes, MLB depth seems like a problem. Nzeocha took most of the 3rd string snaps there behind Jaylon and Hitchens.

Maybe Wilson is an option there. He did play snaps in 2 LB sets but I don't recall if that was MLB or WLB. He struggled in coverage this preseason more than I expected. I thought he showed promise in coverage last year.

I saw that a lot of veteran 4-3 type LBs were released that probably have some stop-gap ability. I thought they might sign on of those.
