Offense:
Dez Bryant: This signing could effect Dallas ability to resign key contributors.
* My take: If his price is too high, I franchise him and keep gang together another year.
DeMarco Murray: Might be having historic year.
* My take: Most likely prices himself out of Dallas and gets his final big payday elsewhere.
Doug Free: unrestricted. He bounced back admirably after pay cut few years ago.
*My take: Time to move on. Parnell is auditioning for starting RT for next year. Also draft OT.
Ronald Leary: restricted. Can dominate at times. Still learning. Huge OL.
*My take: He stays.
Cole Beasley: restricted. Part of solid complementary players Dallas has on offense.
*My take: He stays.
Dwayne Harris: underrated but has his warts.
*My take: Does a lot of the dirty work and is productive. However, we can't discount those fumbles. Resign if price is right only.
Jeremy Parnell: unrestricted. Currently auditioning for starting RT for this season and next.
*My take: If his play improves and he has less mental lapses I resign him.

Defense:
Bruce Carter: unrestricted. Found his niche at SAM. Flashes star potential, still inconsistent.
*My take: 2nd half of season will be telling. Had one really good game and bunch of so-so games this year.
Rolando McClain: unrestricted. Unquestionably the team leader on defense and catalytic player.
*My take: I still want to see how he finishes but right now he gets new contract and free flights on Jerry's jet.
Justin Durant: not far behind McClain. Having career year.
*My take: He will be 29 years old next year. Can play all three LB positions. Resign him.
Henry Melton: no longer a starter. Has to have big 2nd half to even consider exercising contract terms 2015.
*My take: I let him go. Crawford is better and cheaper. Need to draft DT in a bad way.
Nick Hayden: unrestricted. Actually has some chemistry going on with Crawford against run.
*My take: I think you can upgrade here and preferably someone who can get little push at QB.
Sterling Moore: unrestricted. I like his aggressive and physical style. Teams still target him.
*My take: I would resign him and let him compete with Mo next year.
George Selvie: unrestricted. Is apart of worst pass rush in football.
*My take: Had great story last year but not seeing same player this year. I upgrade here.
Anthony Spencer: unrestricted. Had great game against Seattle and clunker against Giants.
*My take: I still have concerns about his knee and ability to be productive weekly. I upgrade here.

Offense:
Dez Bryant: You have to re-sign Dez Bryant. You don't let hall of fame talent walk, and you can't string him along with franchise tags, the price is just going to get higher.

DeMarco Murray: DeMarco Murray on the other hand, I think you can franchise twice if you have to. You can also see what options are out there for running backs i.e. Adrian Peterson. Murray will understand being Franchised twice in a row will ultimately kill his worth, but we have a lot of leverage on him here. Murray is currently 26. At the end of the season he will be 27. After two years of franchise tagging he will be going on 29. He'll be hard pressed to get a big contract at 29, but the Cowboys will have gotten the most value out of him most likely.

Doug Free: Agreed, it's time to move on. You can't pay everyone, least of all Doug Free. You can either get his replacement in the draft or if Parnell plays well he can audition for a full year next year.

Ronald Leary: I give Leary probably a 4-5 year deal, not a bank breaker though.

Cole Beasley
: I give Beasley a 2nd round tender or sign to a modest deal 4 or 5 years.

Dwayne Harris: Unless Dwayne Harris starts doing some special things at returner, I think you let him walk, and look for the next guy who can contribute.

Jeremy Parnell: I sign him for a two year contract at the end of this year if he does well in this window of games.

Defense:
Bruce Carter: I try to sign him to a 4 or 5 year deal, with low compensation. Either that or I sign him to a one year deal to show that he can do this for a whole year.

Rolando McClain: I resign him to a pretty good contract, probably 5 or 6 years, again I don't break the bank though.
Justin Durant: I resign Durant for 3 years, I don't break the bank though.

Henry Melton: I wait out til the end of the year to see which Melton we're looking at here. That determines everything, but almost certainly doesn't get his 9 million next year.

Nick Hayden: Hayden is gone by the end of the year if not sooner.

Sterling Moore: I re-sign Moore today, to a 4 year deal.

George Selvie: Selvie is gone at the end of the year.

Anthony Spencer: Basically the situation as Melton. I'm hard pressed to give him more than a 2 year deal though.

And you see all this in 7 games?

I don't see where you get all this.

Let the season play out and just enjoy.

What is it they say?

NFL means Not For Long?

We maybe playing well now but so much can happen.

Let's give it a break before we worry about tomorrow.

Good stuff. I agree almost all the way around.

I think...

ÂŞ Harris is gone. Some team with monster cap room will pay him big bucks to return kicks. He's also superb in kick coverage.
ÂŞ If Parnell plays well, he will get offers I don't think the Cowboys can counter. If he doesn't play well, he's gone anyway.
ÂŞ I'd much rather have Moore on the roster than Claiborne. Can we swap contracts? I'm afraid Moore's gonna play himself out of Dallas.

Looks like we're drafting a bunch of DL, a few corners and a RT in the spring.

This is why you have to address some of these (Dez, McClain) mid-season, next off-season is going to be a beast.

The bye week would be ideal.

It's mid-week. We can only praise the OL and speculate on Murray's durability so much. :D

I don't get the Doug Free hate. I've been as down on him as anyone, but after how this line has performed and the way the young pups look at him, damn.

Because you can't sign everybody and you should not pay age. Doug Free will be 31 next year. Nothing to do with hate. This is a similar situation to Jason Hatcher last year.

Can you use 2 tags in an offseason? Like the franchise and transition tags?

I don't either.

The defense needs some early draft help come next spring and I dislike letting an acceptable RT walk, especially if he can be retained for a reasonable salary.

Why create one more hole that needs to be filled?

I think the difference is that Hatcher had a monster year, went to the probowl and was expected to get (and did) a big salary bump.

Free is a decent player who won't sniff a probowl and should be able to be resigned for a smaller salary.

The way I see it, you keep either Free or Parnell. Not sure one is significanly better than the other. If not, keep the younger guy.

Add Brandon Carr to that list of players decisions need to be made regarding. His contract number may be too rich for Jerry's blood.

I'd prefer to keep the better guy and I think that's Free by a little bit. But let's see how it plays out.

That's why these "keep" or "don't keep" conversations are meaningless. It's always, "how much would you be willing to pay to keep him around". I'd keep them all for the minimum. I'd let them all go if they insist on being the highest-paid at their position in the league.

i would add leary to the must signs. we can't really afford to lose 2 starters off the oline and he should'nt be that expensive
beasley is restricted so he is easy
you kinda have to sign one of the tackles. it would be very risky to let both go and need two new tackles next year(starter and backup
i would like to keep harris. fans have short memories. harris has been a heck of a player for us. i don't think we can sign him because someone is gonna offer him big money i think but i would sure like to keep him
