I thought there were at least 4 rookies that started the 1st game of the 1975 season? but I guess not.

And yet we have too much talent waiting in the wings to invest in FA. All in!

Maybe I've been drinking the koolaide...but I do very much like these 4 rookies.

Now whether they can shine on the road in their very first game is a completely different story.

The bottom line is our season fortunes likely rest on these guys. If they struggle, then our oline and secondary will be disasters. If they excel, then the team is likely solid.

This stat doesnt seem right. Think of the rookie heavy 1989 team:

Aikman, Daryl Johnston, Mark Stepnoski, Tony Tolbert, Randy Shannon and Rhondy Weston, Steve Walsh all started multiple games. I'm sure other rookies might have started a game or two at some point in the season.

Hopefully they are consulting with legends at their position so they can leapfrog some learning experiences that usually comes through time and repetition.

My understanding is that "Starting" just means on the field for first snap on either side of the ball. So depending on packages and play call they may not have all been on the field for the first play on offense or defense

If Overshown starts it will be like having 5 rookies starting.

Remember, we are talking about Game #1 only.

Many times you will see veterans starting game #1 but eventually a rookie will start at some point in the season.

A player is considered he starter for that season if he starts more than half of the regular season games.

In game #1 in 1989 it wasn't Mark Stepnoski who started at center for game #1, it was veteran Tom Rafferty. Daryl Johnston didn't start at FB, it was Kevin Scott. Too Tall Jones and Jim Jeffcoat were the starting DE's, Tony Tolbert started 5 games that season.

In 1975 only one rookie started in game #1 and it was LG Burton Lawless. Contrary to popular belief, the 1975 team didn't really feature the rookies. However, the rookie class played significant roles on special teams, nickel packages, and 3rd down defense.

In 1975 the Cowboys drafted their future LB squad, Hollywood Henderson, Bob Breunig and Mike Hegman. All 3 started zero games that season.

The Cowboys drafted two perennial starters on the offensive line, Pat Donovan and Herbert Scott. However, in their rookie seasons they started a combined 5 games.

Even future Hall of Famer Randy White only started 1 game that season.
