According to David Moore,

"How bad was this loss for Dallas? Cowboys held ball for 12:44 of 4th quarter and were outscored 20-10 in period."

And we still lost. Unreal!
The 1st GB TD was from a 3rd quarter drive with TD 5 seconds into the 4th. GB scored on an INT.

That means that if comparing 4th Quarter scores really only the final TD was from a GB offensive drive in the 4th (7 of the 20 points). The Cowboys defense faced 2 drives in the 4th and forced a punt and allowed a TD.

4th Q recap:
5 seconds into 4th, TD by GB.

3rd down, defender jumps on Witten's back and forces Witten's arms down. It would have been a 1st at the 12 yard line but no penalty called.

Cowboys field goal.

Packers punt.

Packer INT and TD.

Cowboys TD (Dak run).

Key play, 3rd and 8 Rodgers runs for 20 yards. Mayowa rushes too deep and loses contain on Rodgers but Mayowa was held a bit by LT.

Packers TD

How did we lose to them in 2013? We were up I think, 29-6, and still lost and they ended up with more rushes in that game than we did.

Detroit in 2011 and 2013.

We lost a game by icing our own kicker in 2011.

Has there been a team that gives up more opening drive touchdowns than the cowboys? In the last ten years?

Marinelli doesn't sign players, that's the GM's job. In the end, the GM should have access to infinitely more data than a Coordinator, so he should ask for the coaches input and override him if necessary. That's how it works.
They're both responsible. But to say that Marinelli isn't involved in player acquisition via draft and free agency is just untrue

"Involved" is a very encompassing term. He could be "involved" in the way I said, they ask him if he likes a player and what he thinks about his capabilities in the scheme.

But he's not going over a ton of film of FAs or crunching numbers. That's not his job.

So are you absolving Marinelli of any responsibility for the lack of talent on the defense?

In a prevent defense, Rodgers runs for what 18...and then throws two straight against the same defender for the win?

First question, how is it that other teams knock a lot of end zone jump balls down?

This whole sequence was again set up, by a blown play score...that one is on Williams.

Murray dominated against a hapless Green Bay team in the 1st half of that 2013 Packer game.

Despite being ahead 26-3 at the beginning of the 2nd half, Jason Garrett junked the running game that had gained more than 100 yards in the first half and decided to throw it almost the entire 2nd half.

Romo threw 2 back breaking INTs late in the game. Combined with heroics by Matt Flynn and 150+ yards by Eddy Lacy, the Cowboys blew it and lost.

It WAS the game that tipped it for me and I decided JG would never lead the Cowboys to the promised land. I suspect many felt the same way.

We miss Lee, but I'd say there's more talent on this D than some ranked higher. It's our bend don't break scheme that isn't setup for our player strengths. We've played this way for over a decade and we haven't been competive when it counts since
Who on this D would start for any of the teams currently in the top 10 in defense?

I've said it before the offense has to play basically perfect for this team to win.

They simply can not rely on the defense to do anything.

If the defense does that's icing on the cake but the offense has to play every down, every game, as if they're going to be the sole reason for winning the game, because they're going to have to be.

That INT can't happen. It just can't.

Leaving a minute plus on the clock for any QB, let alone one like AR, can NOT happen with this D.

They are absolutely useless.
Great post here

We can’t afford any turnovers from the offense let alone ones that are returned for touchdowns.

If not for the sole reason this defense sure as hell won’t garner any.

Offense did all they could but play defense. Sometimes other parts of your teams need to step up.

And yet for some reason, for the 2nd game in a row against the Packers, the offensive coaches completely ditch the time of possession/ball control philosophy during the final 2 minutes of the game.

Once they hit the red zone inside the 2 minute warning, even holding on to time outs, the idea of bleeding time off the clock never seems to occur to them.
