Regardless of what happens rest of this year - this will be a talented football team in 2016. The Romo & Dez injuries were unfortunate and most likely will cost the cowboys an entire year. However, rarely does this talented of a team have opportunity for high draft slot. A silver lining is there for the taking. This is situation where we need Jerry to meddle.

They're not going to end up with a high draft pick because this stupid team will end up going for broke, when it doesn't matter mind you, and win just enough games to screw us of a top pick.

It's the Cowboy way.

Probably will be later this year if they insist on bringing him back even though this team is cooked like a turkey.

I doubt it happens. They may very well end up at 6-10 or 7-9, but that probably doesn't even sniff the top 10 this year.

Or we win enough games to draft out of the top ten.

This seems pretty likely with Romo coming back & given our remaining schedule. We'll probably finish 7-9 and draft somewhere in the teens.

The OP said "rarely does this talented of a team have an opportunity for a high draft slot." What are you talking about? We have holes everywhere. That's why we lost 6 in a row. "This talented of a team" implies a team like the Patriots getting a top 5 pick and only getting better. We might not even be a playoff team had Romo played 16 games. People are forgetting that we went 8-8 many times with Romo before last season. What makes you think we're an annual 12-4 team with a healthy Romo? Probability suggests we're an 8-8 team with Romo and a 0-2 win team without him. So I don't agree with the OP that "rarely does this talented of a team have an opportunity for a high draft slot." If we did get a high draft pick (top 5 hopefully), we should draft a QB because we'll probably never get another opportunity to take one so high before Romo retires. But even if we didn't draft a QB, we'd have a bunch of other needs to spend it on: LB since Lee continues to get hurt and McClain continues to be inconsistent, Safety since we have the worst starting duo in the NFL, CB since we don't have many prospects and Carr and Claiborne are likely gone after this season, DT since we have Nick Hayden, WR since nobody stepped up when Dez was hurt, TE since Witten will retire soon and we've never successfully found his replacement, RT since Free is a major weak link, RB since we can't rely on McFadden forever.

When your QB goes down and you can't win 1 or 2 games out of 6, that should tell you that your talent is nowhere near as good as you thought. This team, and it's fans, has been over-hyping it's players for years. Too many other teams have been able to string along a couple wins when their QB went down. The Steelers stole one today after Roth went down and the 9ers won today after benching Cap. We have the most over-hyped, unprepared team in the NFL. Luckily our whole division is an embarrassment and not just us.....

We need real players on the defensive line. We have 3/4(and only 1 playing good enough) and the rest are complete garbage!

I would say good bye too....

Lee: He's just not that good. People hate me for my opinion that Dez is overrated, well Dez is a stud!He just has some flaws, Sean Lee, on his best day, is average. No surprise our best season since he's been here is the season he didn't play 1 snap. He's a loser! #sorry

McClain: If you're going to be a degenerate, be one with a high motor. Don't be one you have to beg into giving a damn. Get rid of this guy!

Every defensive lineman not named Crawford, Lawrence, Hardy, Mincey(maybe): None of the others can play a lick. None will ever do anything positive for this team. Selvie, Melton and Spencer are all pro's in comparison to what we're throwing out there now!

Claiborne, Carr: You see these guys on run defense tonight? I swear Claiborne gave runners an extra 2-1/2 to 3 yards by using bad technique. Couldn't even stop Miles Austin on third downs. He's so LSU. Get rid of this bum. He's not a winning player.

Church: Just because

Forgot about Gregory. Did they put him in the witness protection program?

I actually think Dallas need to revamp LB core. I don't see Lee healthy enough and don't see McClain back.

I agree... However I don't think we need to get rid of Lee, but we obviously need more insurance as far as quality backups go... McClain probably needs to be playing somewhere else next season... I've been saying it all season, aside from a RB, the draft really needs to be all defense choosing the BPA at any defensive position... The Safety position has been an abomination for more than a decade now, so I would say that is as much a priority as anything...

I would be surprised if Jerry doesn't throw pretty big money at Eric Weddle or Tashaun Gipson in the off-season... Either of those guys would be a huge upgrade over Wilcox/Church... And I hope this is the route that Jerry goes to fill the FS position... I'm pretty sure both of those guys will hit the market, and that's one position that we could make a significant upgrade at without having to use a draft pick...

This is my concern.

We need to draft a quality QB and it looks like there might be two in this year’s draft.

I want us to be able to get one without having to give up the house to get him.

That's exactly my thoughts as well. Not only that but it'd put us in a great position to grab another few top tier players who can greatly improve this team as well.

There would be nothing more frustration to see Romo come back, put more pressure on him than needed and it be for absolutely nothing but the risk of another injury and lower draft pick.

It'd be nice if we had the ability to win games without Romo, but we just can't. With him, we're elite. Without him, we're the opposite. If he hadn't gotten injured I think it's safe to say we'd be about 6-2 right now. So I disagree with your opinion that we wouldn't even be good with Romo. Cone on man... We lost two of these games in OT and the others we were tied or led going into the 4th quarter (besides the Patriots game). You don't think having Romo would've made much of a difference? I get that we have a lot of holes in our team but Romo is good enough to make us elite on his own.

They've been drafting and signing FA LBers so maybe next year we'll have a different set of starters. In general, it seems that we need to get stronger up the middle -- DTs, LBs, and safety.
