Do you play your starters in the 4th game of the preseason? No? Why would you play them here? This team needs to be as healthy as possible to have a chance in the playoffs. We've been lucky with injuries... but why do this against the Commanders... it's so dumb it's not even funny.

I don't know. Manning and company used to rest the last week of the season and come into the playoffs flat (and lose). I can live with Garrett's reasoning -- these guys need to play and go into the playoffs on all cylinders. Plus we have an outside chance at a bye week.

Mahalo brother. This is a big deal.

I'm not asking how the weather is! Dreary here. Mele Kalikimaka. Hope to see you soon.

I was only there on a 'paid vacation' for seven days, but I learned Aloha, was given a pineapple fruit basket and a ley. Loved feeding the fish on a wade with a loaf of bread...

Almost paradise.

Probably so.

But I remember they blasted the team to hell for resting.

Now people want them to rest people?

You can't have it both ways.

They got blasted because the team leaders went to Cabo during the bye week. No one cared about them taking a half off against Washington.

Dallas got blasted in 2007 for not taking the final game seriously enough, only playing a half (and not even really trying at that) and then getting bounced in the playoffs.

Now people are really calling for them to just sort of sit it out again?

Seven years later, different players and coaches.

Does the team pick and choose what games they think they will win or lose and rest the starters like the San Antonio Spurs, and save their aged players for the play-offs?

Romo could slip in the shower. Does that mean he is forbidden to bathe until after the play-off game?

I'm concerned about them getting a rest this weak and then coming out and looking lousy in their first playoff game due to the rust.

If you can't see the difference in risk between taking a shower and having 300 pound DLineman trying their best to pound you into the turf as hard as they can, then not sure what to tell you.

Do people worry about all of these rust issues during the regular season bye? Because most everyone usually approaches that as a chance to get rested and healthy. Why is this different?

Also, if two weeks not playing is such a problem, why do teams even want the bye in the playoffs?

Actually I think there is some concern about being rusty after a bye.

terrible comparison for a multitude of reasons.

1) Available players at your disposal is much different in the preseason.

2) Sloppy play first few weeks of the season attributable to lack of work.

3) No evidence as to success of resting key guys and their performance in subsequent playoff rounds.

4) This is football. If you coach scared... Or you start to look ahead.... You falter.

Best coach in the game plays his guys in these situations. Good enough for me.

If your QB has a 114 passer rating, you have to be at or near the top by default.
Even if your defense had the worst passer rating against in the league--which they don't-- you'd probably still be in the top 7-8 in differential

I've never ever heard anyone say anything about that until now.

Everyone was looking forward to the Eagles on 10 days rest, but at 14 days rest you become rusty? 16 weeks into the season?

There is nothing you can tell me. You had no problem playing Romo in the 14 games previous. The meaning of the game To You now precipitates sitting him in your eyes.

But there is more to this than just Romo. Who do you sit? Just him? What about Murray, Dez, Tyron, Zach - who actually has a dinged ankle, Free, Fredbeard, Leary, RoMc, Scandrick, maybe Beasley - he is an integral part of this offense, Witten, Carr - - so where is the line in the sand to play or sit? They all had a hand in this record and winning this division.

Maybe we should sit Romo in the first round of the play-offs because the second game will be more important. Maybe just wait until the NFCC game.

I know, let's wait until the Super Bowl. Stop, just the last quarter of the Super Bowl will do.

That limits his risk to the max.

It is different because you don't get to rest 53 players week 17. Like you do in a bye week.

Resting a few players has a domino effect. Let's say we rest Romo Martin Murray Witten and McClain.

Needless to say our offense and defense are worse. Which means our offense is on the field less and our defense is on the field more. What kind of wear and tear does that put on our defensive players? Now you're behind the sticks and throwing more. Maybe Weeden gets injured. Now you're out of a backup. And now you can't even practice effectively on Wednesday because that's the day Romo sits.

I can go on and on. Just rambling to make the point that resting a few guys isn't like waiving a magic wand and getting a free bye week.

You continue to take arguments to ridiculous extremes thinking that is making a point.

Personally I don't even let Romo suit up. You will not win ANY playoff games with Weeden as QB. Can we agree on that?

As for the rest, I don't terribly care where the line is or who they play vs. who they sit because I DON'T CARE WHO WINS THIS GAME. Put the practice squad out there, who gives a fig?

Obviously the roster numbers mean you can't sit everybody, but certainly you can make intelligent decisions about who you can sit. Not sure why that is a problem for a thoroughly meaningless game.

Whether the offense or the defense is one the field, someone has to be out there for about 30 minutes. Someone is going through 'wear and tear' (unless you think offense is effortless), and worse, is exposing themselves to injury. I would rather those be the players not as important to winning playoff games in subsequent weeks.
