49ers lack team speed. Their fastest players are Vernon Davis and Kapernick. This is just IMO another excuse for why this team lost on Thursday. Cowboys just need to play with what they have and continue to win. They put up 30 points a game. Its not by luck.

Speed is not our problem.

Not having guys in position to make plays is our problem.

I couldn't agree more, that is why the offensive line is important. I keep saying i want to see speed in another RB. I do like Dunbar, but I wouldn't mind another RB that is really a burner. I think they need another WR that can run a 4.3 and catch, but I don't want to speed a 1st on a player like that and that is most likely is what you will need to speed. The TE position is serviceable at best now with Witten, but they do have Escobar and Hanna.

In regards to the defense this is what you get with the Tampa 2. I want to see fast CBs that can really cover, but that again may force you to spend a 1st or 2nd. The Cowboys need to gather more picks and focus on the DL. They need at least 6 linemen to rotate and generate a pass rush. This is where I am ready to see a young coach to come in and come up with new ideas while learning from the current coaches about the 4-3. I just want to see new ideas. People have figured out the Tampa 2 and when you don't have great players on the defense it's easy to just out scheme and out play the defense. Well Rome wasn't built in a day and while other teams have done so, I don't believe Jerry and Co. are equipped to do the same. JMO.

I agree. This is about having the courage to try something new. Dallas has nothing to lose.

Need more pressure from the ends on 3rd downs. When we don't create pressure and play soft zone it only benefits the offense because it allows the QB to get in rythym early. Our best solution is to press the receivers and hit them as they're running drag routes with our LB's. It'll force the QB to go past their first read and make them just uncomfortable while giving our line an extra few seconds to get to the QB.

I think a really good team isn't about the ends, but more about the consistent push from the tackles, both of them, not just the 1 tech. I really don't like having a 1 and 3 tech. I want a 2 gap guy that can clog and push up the middle. When you get this, you need both guards, center and often others to help in the middle. The ends can then work on the tackles one on one. How many times do you see even the best of QBs freak out when the rush is seemingly coming right up the middle? 2007 Pats go 18-0 and lose the last game because Brady couldn't move out of the rush coming...wait for it....right up the middle.

Agreed where the interior line is important and I stated that on another thread a short while ago. We made the attempt to address that area with adding Brent, Melton, McClain and sliding Crawford on the inside. Problem is Hayden isn't drawing double teams which frees up the extra interior lineman to help block the 3DT on 3rd downs or get to the second level to throw a block on a LB.

I will confess that our defensive ends aren't very athletic. Mincey and Spencer just aren't those types of players and Selvie has bulked up this year to help vs the run. That's where PHI hurt us.
