Dallas now has HOPE for next season and Confidence if they can sign two or three key Free Agents.

We have HOPE without signing anyone. Dont forget with a lot of rookies playing we went 9-7 and could have easily gone 10-6 or better. With the rookies entering the 2nd season they should progress instantly making us somewhat better.

Hope is always there, especially for us diehards.

I would say confidence is a better choice of words. The Cowboys are a couple guys away from taking the NFL by storm. There's always hope, however confidence, is much harder to gain, and retaining it is even harder. I think our guys need a confidence boost. If we can nab the Fab from the Jets and get a solid FS, I think we have a legitimate shot. The FB and WR situation is not critical at this point, it would just further solidify us as a top contender. Just my 2 cents.

Profootballtalk is stating that Chris Hope might be let go by Pittsburgh. I hope Dallas can sign him without overpaying. He isn't a ballhawk FS as evidenced by his lack of ints, but he is a definite upgrade over "Killer".

Do you guys seriously think the Cowboys would wrap the amount of money it's gonna take to sign Hope into the FS position?

Just think...we just signed AH to a monstrous contract... and TNew just had the pro bowl caliber year.

When his FA payday comes, he'll command just as much or MORE than Henry did.

Then there's Roy.
Chances are we'll wrap him up soon. And that won't be cheap either.

So you really expect Jerry to drop another bundle on the Free safety position? The least important position on the defense?

Penny's have to be pinched somewhere.

Personally - I'd rather keep Roy and TNew rather than lose them cause we signed a big time free safety.

I don't think Hope will be expensive. It's not like he made a ton of picks or made the probowl. I think he can be had for a moderate contract.

Again and again it seems we go over this.

If you need to fill a need, going for the most expensive option is not a great idea. Especially for a position like FS.

Some of you think that a team has to have the best player at every single position for success. That just isn't how it works.

I don't get it. Why would Chris Hope be expensive? Its not like he is an all pro. Don't you think the Cowboys could sign this guy to a moderate contract?

He may not be that expensive... but he'd be more expensive than we should pay for that position. And if he's not that expensive, the Steelers will resign him anyway.

He didn't make the pro bowl - but everyone around the league thinks he has the potential to play in many future pro bowls.

We don't need pro bowlers at every position guys.

He is not a probowler, nor does he have the potential to play in many probowls. He is a mid grade free agent that will reciever a mid range contract. His agent is upsetting the Pittsburgh management. They might let him go just like they did Burress.

But he is the top FS on the market. He's only 25 and he is a good tackler. That's the kind of guy that folks end up over paying for

There was a guy like that last year that was a far superior player to Hope. He signed for a $3.5 million signing bonus.

I'd be all over Hope for that much. Bargain.

If somebody wants to overpay him, let them and move on.

Free Safeties of top caliber command salaries in the 2 mil / yr if they get tagged...considerably less if not. Check out what Ed Reed makes...you'll see it in perspective. I would guess Hope would get a little more than Pitt would give if he hits the market, but not much.

Oh, and I guess this was really a Chris "HOPE" thread afterall considering there was nothing in the original post saying WHY there was hope. Cute:)
