I'm not blaming Wade Phillips for the loss. But you have to ask yourself, what can you realistically change about this team in one season that will have the greatest impact. I would like to do a roster tunrover but that's not realistic. You can't replace 20 players. Sure, you can get mad and cut them but who are you going to replace them with? You can't do that in the draft and get immediate returns. Teams are going to covet their best players thus they won't trade them. Free agents cost money and franchised players cost precious picks.
So again, what can we do to improve this team's performance next season. I think it starts with the head coach. Coaching is not easy. Parcells was too strict and Wade is too easy. Wade managed the players well in the regular season but he should have been strict and got his players to focus toward the end. Our problems lay with our defense today. Our offense didn't play well but if I had to decide which was worse, I would say it was our defense. How do you give up 74 yards in 46 seconds? How do our players lack such poor tackling mechanics to allow a receiver to break free on the opening drive.
Maybe we need a QB coach to work with Romo. His decision making cost us dearly today. In the 4th quarter, he cost us downs had he done something as simple as throw the ball out of bounds which is what high school QB's are taught. As a QB, you can't be that absent minded and stay inside the pocket and throw it out of bounds. You should know that will yield an intentional grounding penalty.
