I think we will draft a RB early,we are not bringing in all these RBs to interview as a smoke screen.

Early isn't first round though. We always bring in players, even guys we end up taking on day three.

So the Cowboys are blowing a giant smoke screen by wasting a huge number of only 30 in town visits on players they really don't want? I find myself questioning the logic in this. Especially when 8 of the draft picks the last 2 years have been in town visits.

As you said, 8 picks in last two years; that means most of those visit/picks were not about round one. Most teams know all they need to know about projected first round picks. They want to get to know the guys who could possibly be available in round 2-3-etc

This team has won without a cb. It isn't winning without a running game. We can not start the season with just the ones we have.

We will definitely draft a RB....I just don't see the value in any RB in round 1 vs the guys available in rounds 2-3.

This reeks of the get by mentality along the OL before the Cowboys got serious.

The QB doesn't have a lot of time left. The team can win now. Its not the time to experiment at RB with marginal prospects and an Oakland flop.

Yet another winning post.

To say nothing of the fact that some continue to bang the drum for a 1st round DT or another cornerback in the 1st round, given the Tampa 2 - based scheme we're currently employing.

To me, the question is simple:

1.) Do you trust Ryan Williams, Darren McFadden, Randle to provide the running game to protect your franchise quarterback, or

2.) Do you trust stud muffins like Gurley, Gordon, Coleman or AP to ...?

Uh, I'll have the No. 2, please. :)

if this is what you see draft day...i like the pick ,but i'm not giddy about moving up.

21. Dallas Cowboys (via MOCK TRADE with Cincinnati Bengals) — Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin — With the Cardinals potentially eyeing a running back in the draft and Todd Gurley off the board, the Cowboys make a move up in order to grab their long-term replacement for DeMarco Murray. Couple Gordon with Darren McFadden and Joseph Randle and the Cowboys should have enough manpower to make up for the loss of a feature back.

OMG....nightmare in my opinion. We have only 6 picks. I sure hope we don't give up more picks to move up. If anything, I hope we move down and get additional picks unless there's someone there at 27 that is just too good to pass up.

I'm not feeling that folks actually disagree with my philosophy regarding RB. I see us taking a RB in rounds 2 or 3, someone who can contribute right away and develop into a back at least as good as Murray. I think the difference of opinion is that some of you believe that Gurley and Gordon are way better than any other backs in this draft. You seem to believe that Gurley or Gordon will be another Peterson or Emmitt, not another Ingram, Richardson, or Dayne. If we draft either player, I hope you are correct. I'm just Leary of RBs who put up big numbers at Wisconsin or Georgia, traditionally powerhouse run programs with lots of RBs.

I agree that Dallas isn't going to just gamble on the backs they have. I just think the backs available in round 2 will be every bit as successful as the top two guys. On the other hand, I don't think the CBs, DL, and LBs in rounds 2-3 will be nearly as good as those available to us at #27.

No rookie RB is a sure thing anyway. Despite the fact that we know RBs can translate right away to the NFL, who was the last rookie RB to tear up the NFL the way we are hoping?

Wow....just read the scouts take on Abdullah over in the Newsfeed Zone. Two of those guys say he's their favorite player in the draft. Take a read....sounds like a truly natural runner, though smallish....though Emmitt Smith was called too small and too slow by many scouts...lots of those 4.6 guys seem to have a second gear and never get caught from behind.

While some of the bigger guys with faster 40s do get caught because they seem to take longer to reach top end speed.

he is good runner but he has terrible fumbling problems on account of his tiny hands(even though he has no trouble catching the ball),we might have to live with his fumbles like we did with Murray if we draft him.

I don't remember scouts saying Emmitt was too small. Too slow, yes.

But Emmitt had huge thighs, the type you need as a running back.

Abdullah is small AND has small thighs, compared to Emmitt and Batty Sanders. He's more a third down back or a change-of-pace back. And he fumbles a lot. I wouldn't look to him as our replacement for Murray.

we aren't taking him. He sucks at pass protection.

Starting to put my stock in us trading down and drafting 3 defensive players and a RB on day 2.

This reeks of the get by mentality along the OL before the Cowboys got serious.

Romo probably has maybe 3 more years at top performance and of course just like any other player in the NFL is one hit from ending his career.

Since you can count on the fingers of one hand teams that have been able to go from one top QB to another in one year or so (SF Montana to Young; Indy Manning to Luck; Packers Favre to Rodgers) in the last 30 years, one has to accept that the reality will be that it will take several years to draft one and go through his growing pains (assuming we do not draft a bust).

We were INCREDIBLY lucky to go from Eddie Lebaron To Don Meredith to Roger to Danny with only a few hicups along the way. Almost 25 straight years of Pro Bowl Quality QBs. What happened after Danny lost his effectiveness and what happened after Troy retired is much more the norm then our early history.

So we must face the reality of us spending several years at best and maybe more at worst finding our next top QB.
Yes we can be competitive and have winning seasons if we have the O line and a decent D. But we would be no threat to win it all.

To that end of going all in before our closing window slams shut I would be open to a move to get a top RB in hope of making that last jump to win it all.

I would also be open to a similiar trade for another top pass rusher or top CB. Each of those moves might be just enough to hoist another Lombardi.
