Dan Reeves as Interim Special Teams Coach?

Just a thought,

I know many of us were disappointed when Dan Reeves was not hired as a consultant. If DeCamillis is out for an extended period of time (and some news reports have mentioned that a long and extensive rehabilitation period will be needed), why not hired Coach Reeves as an interim special teams coach?

1. He is DeCamillis's Father-in-Law, so there should not be any friction between the two.

2. It offers a "face saving" way for both Jones and Reeves to resolve their "dispute."

3. Presumably Reeves would be able to offer some sage advice outside of special teams.

4. I believe that Reeves (early in his career) has coached special teams, so he does have some experience in this area.

5. When DeCamillis is healthy, Reeves can slide into the consultant's role everyone had originally envisioned.

Well--its a bit crazy, but I hope this could happen. What do you think?

you beat me to it, i was thinking the same thing;

this would be a good way to get dan reeves in too, to help jason garrett and help out with special teams

maybe jerry jones would look at this as a favor to joe decamillas since he got hurt, adn then you would have dan reeves (hopefully joe can coach special teams in training camp)

It isn't going to happen. DeCamillis will be back in no time at all.

I'd love that... But unfortunately, I think Jerry didn't just burn that bridge, he dynamited it.

Never going to happen. That bridge is burned.

Our STs coach will return in short order.

Dang CL. Too fast for me.

I doubt Reeves is willing to spend the time necessary to be a coach again.

I think he has made that very clear.

Hostile you are most likely correct about the quick rehab. I have no idea how long these type of injuries can keep someone out.

In the NY Daily News Coach Reeves was quoted:
"If things go they way they hope, he will be able to coach. He's got a long rehab," Reeves said Monday from Atlanta. "Joe is going to want to go faster than they tell him. This is one step, but they are pleased so far."

"Long rehab" ???? --how long is long? 2 months 6 months?

By all accounts DeCamillis seems to be a great coach, I hope he makes it back ASAP. However, if there are complications or a prolonged absence, I hope they will consider hiring Reeves as a "fallback" plan.

Just because you are rehabing doesn't mean you cannot do anything else. I seriously doubt he will have to spend all his time in bed when not rehabing. I would say after 2-4 weeks, he will be able to function well enough to be at meetings and practice. He may have to be in a wheel chair for a few months because he won't be able to stand for long periods of time without pain, but he should be able to be there if he wants. He will probably have 1-2 hour rehab sessions 3 to 5 times a week for a few months but he could easily work that around any team meetings or practices. Unless his situation is much worse than they are letting on, I don't think he will miss much time at all. Certainly not enough to warrant hiring a replacement. Campo or someone else can cover special teams for a few weeks or so.

I love how its assumed that this is to be laid at the feet of Jones. I mean the contentious clause was only in every other contract Jones gave out and Reeves does have a reputation of being a hardass that doesn't get along with people. This is the guy that tried to run Elway out of town and kept Elway in a meaningless preseason game aginst us to try and prove a point.

Pretty sure every team in history, except Dallas' two in the 70's, won the SuperBowl without Dan Reeves. Dallas can survive without him.

Joe should be able to run meetings and such. the two a days though.. it might be a little tough for him to be up and around that long -- I expect a couple of the lower level assistants are going to have to take on some of those duties -- my guess is that Dat or Maxie will move into a role assisting him a bit.

Reeves would be here if he truly wanted to. He certainly isn't coming here as a ST coach with ST coach pay and work schedule.

Not sure why it is so hard to grasp Reeves didn't want to work here under the conditions Jerry expected as a high paid OC type coach, no way he walks in at lesser pay with the same scheduling clause.
