Former NFL head coach and TV analyst Dan Reeves will interview with the San Francisco 49ers for their offensive coordinator position, ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen confirmed with a team source Friday.

Reeves
Reeves was set to meet with the 49ers by Saturday, FoxSports.com reported, citing multiple league sources.
Reeves coached the Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants after becoming the youngest coach in NFL history in 1981 with the Denver Broncos, with whom he coached for 12 years.
Scott Linehan, who has been hired to run the Detroit Lions' offense, declined a 49ers' offer last week for that same position.
Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson became the sixth candidate to interview for the 49ers job Friday morning, according to several reports.
The 49ers have been looking for an offensive coordinator since coach Mike Singletary fired Mike Martz on Dec. 30.

I guess he wants to return to the NFL. Thoughts??

I will ALWAYS love Dan Reeves. I wanted him to be the guy who replaced Landry back when he was on the staff and went to Denver. Class act.

At 65 he may have a few years left.

As my Mom and her brother looked for an assisted living home for my Grandmother, we were visiting a show unit that was fully furnished........ and, to complete the ambiance, there was a picture of Dan Reeves in a frame on a coffee table. :)
I guess, if you are an old widow, seeing Reeve's mug could be a key selling point.

Imagine if RJ had left... We could've had him.

Great rep as a coach, good friends with Wade, no question where his loyalties would lie.

The former Cowboys and Landry ties would be just a bonus.

Reeves was a great HC during his time, but his time is way past. I cant believe he is seriously considering doing this.

I wanted Reeves in Dallas after Parcells quit.

The man is one of the most underrated coaches in NFL history. Some of the teams he took to the Super Bowl had no business being there. They overachieved big time.

I could go on and on about Dan Reeves. He and Singletary are two of my favorite people in the NFL and they may end up together at San Francisco. That makes me want to puke.

Agree, Dan was a far better coach than anyone ever gave him credit for.

From the day he left Landry's staff I always thought he'd be back one day trolling our sidelines. We got it right with Jimmy, but since then not so much. I wonder how different things would have been if he had been chosen instead of clowns like Switzer, Gailey & Campo.

On the money. Landry loved this guy and so do I. I suspect he still has a few years left in him. Singletary would learn a lot from him.

Don't agree on the coaching part. He coached arguably the best QB in the history of the game, and couldn't figure out how to use him. There's a reason that Elway had the best years of his career after Reeves left.

Of course, he had to pay penance for this by coaching Vick in Atlanta. :)

Elway was great when Reeves had him.

I think the difference was Elway had an outstanding running game (Terrell Davis) and a much better offensive line when Shanahan had him.

And I think he learned how to win. Davis was sensational for him though esp in the playoffs.

Reeves clung to a plodding running game. Might have been an issue with him being in his first coaching job, and kinda stuck on a formula. I feel he didn't adapt to his talent then. Elway's miraculous two minute drills were about the only time Elway was freed from the lockdown style of offense, in those days.

Elway did much better in the years just following Reeves, but before Shanahan. With Wade Phillips as coach!

In leadership and associated skills Reeves was great. He did do some fine work in Atlanta under more difficult circumstances, that's for sure. It's probably wrong for me to hold the early days against him still.

Well, I'm as big of a Reeves homer as there is, for various reasons.

You're looking at his career with a more analytical and logical eye. I'm a fan, so you'll have to take that into account.

Hey, I loved Reeves as a player, and he's a great person. Probably still a better coach than many in the profession. It would certainly be interesting to see a Singletary lead team with Reeves as an OC. It might work in getting the team a higher profile. I'd be inclined to watch them more....

And it's not like SF has to worry about underusing any star QBs there....;)
