Here is what I anticipate will happen, and what I would like to happen.

Prior to Draft
Release Miles Austin

Kyle Orton will stay another year

DeMarcus Ware
- Will be reduced to somewhere around 7-9 million a year with playing incentives.

Will either resign Hatcher or sign Melton to a multi-year contract. I have a feeling they will address the 3 tech position in free agency so they aren't forced to draft one.

Will kick tires on some veteran receivers when market dries. I don't see them spending big money on one of the top tiered guys, but I see them shoring up the position before the draft.

Will sign a veteran linebacker who can play mike and will. Watch for a guy like Wesley Woodyard who is a really good will linebacker.

Dan, do you think that Martin is a better player on the board if Lewan is also available?

I'm not crazy about Zack Martin but that would be an amazing draft. Too bad Kareem Martin isn't making it to the 5th unless he commits a felony or tears a ligament between now and May. Replace Martin with Ben Gardner and it's much more realistic.

Only thing i dont agree with is the Joyner pick. I just dont think Dallas is going to give up on Wilcox and Heath just yet. Next yr could be a different story if they have the same results. A full offseason should bring better results if they put in the work.

Good question...That depends on if they go with need or best player available. Lewan is probably the better prospect, but he doesn't have the position flex of Martin. Martin has the ability to easily slide inside and play guard his rookie year, and then slide to tackle after free leaves the following year

I agree. No way Martin would be available then. I'm not a huge fan of him, but in 4th or 5th I would take him in a second

Well Joyner shouldn't be labeled a safety. He can play any corner spot as well as safety. He's a play maker. Sure they could easily find a spot for him

I'm actually a big Martin fan. Great senior year #'s and eye popping #'s at the combine. Not a finished product or anything but all the tools are there for him to be great. I'll actually be surprised if he makes it to our 3rd round pick.

I think they take a CB but someone with size rather than a 5'8" guy. They didn't match up well at all against bigger WRs last year and signed one practice squad CB (I forget the name) to the active roster to try to develop a bigger CB but ended up cutting him.

I think they are OK going with what they have at Safety and expect Wilcox to start next year, but I obviously don't rule out a draft pick there. Also on your FA Will, I think that is an area where they take a couple of LBs late in the draft to develop at the Will spot, they can still use Holloman to back up Carter if needed and its much cheaper to have a low draft pick in a backup/special teams role than a FA signing.

My problem with him is he takes lots of plays off. All players get tired and dial it down here and there to catch their breath but this guy will idle for quarters at a time. Then all of the sudden he decides he wants to give effort and makes a few eye popping plays. Maybe in the mid rounds but this guy is fools gold.

I see his value as being ready now but his upside is not any better if as good as several OL that will be available in the 2nd/3rd. It would have been a good pick when the Cowboys were desperate for OL, but now that they have a reasonable starting unit, I would prefer to either trade down and possibly get an OL then or get one in the 2nd/3rd.

I really believe the OL is one of the deepest positions in this draft with several guys that will be equal to Martin after a year of Pro coaching.

47 S LAMARCUS JOYNER

This is going in the wrong direction, IMO. There seems to be more and more of the Megatron, Brandon Marshall type WRs in the NFL every year. I don't see spending a 2nd on a 5'8 DB.

78 DE MARCUS SMITH
LOUISVILLE
Good, but I don't know if he will be available here. He is an option for both 4-3 and 3-4 teams which will push up his draft stock.

115 DT CARAUN REID
PRINCETON
Good. Hopefully he is available because he seems to stand out above many of the projected 4th rounders.

146 DE KAREEM MARTIN
NORTH CAROLINA
I just don't see him being available here. His combine numbers were really good and he was already projected to around the 4th before the combine. I'm personally only lukewarm on him, but I think some teams will really like his size/speed combo and length and will draft him earlier.

206 WR CODY LATIMER
INDIANA
I assume that he is only this low due to foot surgery. He has good size and appears to have excellent quickness and decent long speed.

208 QB KEITH WENNING
BALL STATE
Why do you like him? I didn't see anything overly impressive. He has kind of a slow delivery at times. I'm not sure if he is just not throwing it hard or if he lacks arm strength, but a lot of his throws don't appear have have a lot of zip on them.

Who is the WR on his team that wears #3. He is impressive.

My pick for a late round or UDFA QB is Jeff Matthews. He's got a gun and seems to be fairly accurate.

215 DT CALVIN BARNETT
OKLAHOMA STATE
I really like this guy. Why is he rated this low? He is quick off the line, has good power and he has some nastiness to his playing style.

I think it was more a technique thing. He did what a lot tall guys do and got too high in his stance too quick and just got stood up. I also think the tape from his last 6 or 7 games looked like that of a 1st round pick. Of course he probably should have been more productive his entire college career, but like I said, the tools are all there and then some.

Agree with much of your take. disagreements: I do not believe they sign Melton nor a WR.
May grab a mediocre DT. WR very liable to be ignored until the draft or after.
Dallas likes it's WR depth chart right now.

16 OT ZACK MARTIN

--Not a fan of picking Martin at 16. Good player but his best long-term value is as a Doug Free replacement and this team can't draft for a couple years down the road.

47 S LAMARCUS JOYNER
FLORIDA STATE
--I love this pick. Especially if you went DL in round 1. Joyner can cover and hit. He is FAR better than any Safety we have including Church day 1. If he was 5'11" this guy would be a top 10 pick.

78 DE MARCUS SMITH
LOUISVILLE
--Great pick.

115 DT CARAUN REID
PRINCETON
--Great pick
.
146 DE KAREEM MARTIN
NORTH CAROLINA
--Great pick. Not your fault he was on the board.

206 WR CODY LATIMER
INDIANA
--love the value and a position we could sneak a guy in at.

208 QB KEITH WENNING
BALL STATE
--no idea about him. if orton is back not an issue though.

215 DT CALVIN BARNETT
OKLAHOMA STATE
--another great value but this is probably one DL too many.

Good draft.. Think it's probably pretty unrealistic though.

No one is talking about giving up on either, I have no problem with them developing as back ups or PS players. We need impact players and safety is one of the positions that screams it the loudest. Neither one has shown a knack for that yet and that includes Church. This good enough attitude is the attitude that has kept us in mediocrity hell for the last 20 years! I understand a 1st round safety may not be the impact player I'm speaking of but I'm convinced he ain't on the roster as of yet. I'm really just upset with the "not going to give up" on a mediocre player mentality more than I am advocating a specific player I guess.

The first choice is alright if all the DT then DE are gone. He would be the fourth or fifth pick down the line at #16. The others seem not be what I have heard or read about. QB would not be in any draft selection position this year. Maybe as FA or go after someone else es practice squad.
