Free Agent Signings
Linval Joseph DT - He is only 25, and shows a lot of promise. Explosive off the ball, and generates more pass rush then most 1 techs. Will not be expensive.

Jeff Cumberland TE - Young blocking inline tight end. Excellent in run blocking.

Draft

1st RD - Trent Murphy DE - Jason Garrett type of guy. Smart, Tough, Leader. Hardest worker. Excellent pass rusher. Dynamic play maker.

2nd RD - Will Sutton DT - Lack of production his senior season and lack of heigh could drop him. Extremely explosive. His junior season he was 2nd best defensive player in country behind Jadeveon Clowney. Fit a 3 tech excellently.

3rd RD - Anthony Steen G - Excellent run blocking guard. Has improved in his pass protection this year since Alabama has used more of a zone blocking scheme this year.

4th RD - Jordan Zumwalt OLB - Could fit as a Will Linebacker. Could battle with Bruce Carter for the starting spot. Was all over the field for UCLA this year.

5th RD - Jimmy Garoppolo QB - Another QB from Eastern Illinois. Coincidental? Some scouts are high on him, others not so much. Unpredictable where he goes. Could go anywhere from 3rd to undrafted.

7th RD - Jay Prosch FB - Excellent lead blocker! Also very good special teams player for Auburn.

7th RD Andrew Jackson ILB - Backup for Sean Lee maybe.

7th RD Tre Boston FS - Compete with Matt Johnson, Heath, Wilcox and Hamilton for starting spot next to Church.

FA Cody Webster P - We need a legit punter. This guy is one of the best in the country.

Is a "Jason Garrett type guy" an underperforming smart guy?

I'd be giddy over that draft.

A 7th round pick to start at safety? No thanks. I'd prefer a 2nd rounder or a FA

I like it but going to need more help than that at safety and DE if we cut Ware.

Yes I agree if we cut ware we will probably need at least 2 more DEs. I don't think we need a lot at safety. We have 5 guys at safety that will be competing for other spot. Is it too much to ask 1 of them to be good? Church is good. Just need someone that can complement and cover the back half

Cuts

Miles Austin
Yes.
DeMarcus Ware
Yes.

Justin Durant
Durant was good when he played MLB. He showed to be a good backup to Lee. I would bring him to training camp and let things sort themselves out.

Resign
Kyle Orton
Orton is already under contract for 3.25M in 2014.

Dan Bailey
Bailey is restricted so that's not really and issue.

Brian Waters
They can't make decisions in the spring based on the possibility that the 37 year old Waters might return. They have zero depth at Guard and were 1 injury away from Phil Costa starting.

I really like idea of signing Joseph as the 1-tech DT.

Jeff Cumberland TE - Young blocking inline tight end. Excellent in run blocking.
I was really weird that they used Hanna as the blocking TE. He is an undersized TE with 4.4 speed, but they had him blocking on 90 percent of the snaps that he played.

Draft

1st RD - Trent Murphy DE - Jason Garrett type of guy. Smart, Tough, Leader. Hardest worker. Excellent pass rusher. Dynamic play maker.
#17 is too early, IMO. He is not a great athlete.

2nd RD - Will Sutton DT - Lack of production his senior season and lack of heigh could drop him. Extremely explosive. His junior season he was 2nd best defensive player in country behind Jadeveon Clowney. Fit a 3 tech excellently.
Sutton tried to gain weight an it killed his production. His natural weight is more like 270. He looks like a Drake Nevis clone to me. Quick, but undersized, lacks NFL power and has short arms.

3rd RD - Anthony Steen G - Excellent run blocking guard. Has improved in his pass protection this year since Alabama has used more of a zone blocking scheme this year.
IMO, Steen is a guy that will be ready early, but has a very limited upside. I would prefer someone with higher upside, even if they're a little more raw.

4th RD - Jordan Zumwalt OLB - Could fit as a Will Linebacker. Could battle with Bruce Carter for the starting spot. Was all over the field for UCLA this year.
I think he has limited athleticism.

5th RD - Jimmy Garoppolo QB - Another QB from Eastern Illinois. Coincidental? Some scouts are high on him, others not so much. Unpredictable where he goes. Could go anywhere from 3rd to undrafted.
OK.

7th RD - Jay Prosch FB - Excellent lead blocker! Also very good special teams player for Auburn.
Meh.

7th RD Andrew Jackson ILB - Backup for Sean Lee maybe.
Again, a limited athlete. Are you planning to go back to the 3-4. The Kiffin/Marinelli scheme put a priority on speed/athleticism over size.

7th RD Tre Boston FS - Compete with Matt Johnson, Heath, Wilcox and Hamilton for starting spot next to Church.
A late round developmental Safety seems like the last thing the Cowboys need. They either develop 1 or the 4 they have, draft 1 early or sign a free agent.

FA Cody Webster P - We need a legit punter. This guy is one of the best in the country.
OK.
