As awesome as Parsons plays at EDGE, is he really built to last the length of a career at that position? I'm not saying I have the answer, but isn't that a legitimate question?

Can he build up the weight and still retain his quickness and speed?

I would hate to see his career ruined by the type of injuries you get as a "tweener" type of D-lineman. Also, wouldn't we want to use him in the run defense as well? Wouldn't he be better suited as the MLB to achieve this?

Using him exclusively as an EDGE may be robbing the team of his maximum potential. I think they should use him at MLB with the exception of a half dozen plays a game at EDGE. Best of both worlds?

He looks fat may be why he is under performing. Cut him now.

Ultimately I agree with DJ. Pass rush trumps all. Micah should never not be a heavy factor in getting after the QB in any game he plays here. Shame on the coaches if he is. They would be trying to out smart themselves.

Right now, I like the possibility of Lawrence and Gregory coming off the edges and Parsons coming from anywhere. It puts a lot of stress on the offense not knowing if he's rushing and from where he's coming. We can bring him up and drop out a lineman or rush five. We can stand him up and have him pressure the edge while the end stunts inside. The possibilities are endless.

Whether we make him a full-time end next year depends on what we decide to do with Gregory and Lawrence. But no matter what, he should figure heavily into the pass rush going forward.

Micha isn’t a 4-3 DE. Also Jeremiah didn’t say he should be a DE as the thread title implies.
He said Parsons has the most upside as a pass rusher and. be kept on the edge.

I’m not a big X’s and O guy, but what about a base 3-4 with Parsons and Gregory as the OLB’s and Lawrence as one of the DE?

It will be very interesting how Dallas approaches the offseason needs list with Micah. He's the joker. I'm not sure you can pencil him in anywhere.
With DL and RG back why pencil him in? OC's will lose sleep. Book it.

Yes, I would seriously consider using the 3-4 as the base defense. I'm building the defense entirely around him.

In fact, I'd make them all get matching Sace tattoos. Anyone who refuses gets cut and double bicep flexed out the building.

Agreed the Defense needs to be built around him and he needs to be on the Edge.
We'll have an idea in the next 6 weeks what the Hybrid Defense can do with Micah, Dlaw and Gregory

If it doesn't work, find someone to take D. Lawrence's contract next year, open the 20m in cap space and go Micah, Gregory in the 3-4

Its a good problem to have. My take is the NFL being a passing league, you want to see him at DE most of the time. However Id rather he be playing LB any time a team runs the ball. So I think certain downs and distance, Id rather he be at a LB position. But a vast majority he needs to be rushing the QB. Games are won and lost defensively by your ability to pressure and put down the QB, and to create TO's

Tbh I think this is a better system for him than a base 3-4. The Bradley/Quinn Seattle fronts have been utilizing hybrid LB's/DE's well for a while. I think thats a better overall usuage for him than as a stand up rusher in am odd front. If you are playing him at LB, you want him at Mike. To me thats really how he is special. There have been good hybrid LB's/DE's before, but none that can play the Mike at an All Pro level like Parsons

I don't know why anyone would think Parsons being a potential 20 sack guy off the edge is "stupid"

He absolutely could be...

I mean...20 sacks is a lot

I'm not saying I think it's stupid, but it has only happened 6 times in the last 20 years or so, and you have to go back to 1990 for number 7

So yes, I get he has 9 in 11 games and that's great. And teams play an additional game now...but 20 is still a lot

Great for Parsons and Gregory...but shortens Lawrence's career. Dude is like 255-260. He'd need another 25-30 pounds of bricks in his jersey just to be able to hold up..

his best asset is where waldo approach make defenses guess where's he coming from at LB or roving DE..no way oid keep him at one spot nor does hes said he rather play the swiss army knife and not be located on every play for chip and double team every play..

Parsons himself said this a few weeks ago..

he wont be a fulltime DE for that reason and started himself hed rather move around so he harder to chip and double..hes hybrid LB/DE pass rushing specialist who can tackle :) you move him around as they have all year

Full time DE = check into a run play his direction on early downs until he learns contain.

He is a Joker. His best benefit is position flex and moving all around the front 7 depending on the situation.

I get the reasoning for moving him to DE permanently, but does he have the size to withstand the pounding of taking on OTs every play?

I don't have the answer but I think playing DE and having him rush the QB is something he can do without lots of game experience at the NFL level. Playing LB might take some time for him to learn the nuances. Right ow he is clearly a better DE than LB but in time he might be just as disruptive from the middle. If the Cowboys had a space eating DT to protect him he could be a monster at LB.

Then again next year they may not have Randy Gregory at DE. Maybe they will need Parsons at DE.
