I'm not sold on Amendola helping this version of the Dallas Cowboys, but I have my reasons. With all the hype he is getting, and it is hype, it is hard not to have a little fun with it. He had a good camp, but imo, Felix Jones was the rookie star of the camp on offense. Why am I not sold on Amendola's value to Dallas' offense?

First, Patrick Crayton really flourishes inside or in the slot. That is how he earned his money. According to Vela, Crayton doesn't do as well against the top corners in the league. Really good corners can man him up on the outside without much of a problem. This allows the defense to double or triple Owens. If Sam Hurd can come through and take that number 2 position, Crayton can do his damage inside on third down. The problem is this: Does Hurd have the speed to stretch the field and beat the really good corners? Is he just another version of Crayton? Finally, is Amendola just a slot receiver or a possession guy? If he is, I don't see his value. How is he going to ever get on the field? I don't see him returning punts or kickoffs, either.

Second, I still think there is a chance that another receiver could be traded for before it is all said and done. Plus, you can't rule out Terry Glenn being resigned.

The loser of the Robert Meachem vs Devrey Henderson match for the third WR in New Orleans could be a target. Meachem should win that battle, and Henderson will probably be dealt. He's had some drop issues, but Henderson's 2006 YPC was around 23 yards. He is a deep threat. Sooner or later, that number 2 option at WR must stretch the field. Henderson, a former LSU player, does have some skins on his wall.

If I was Jerry Jones, and I'm not, I would put a package together and try to get Meachem. It wouldn't hurt to try. Let them reject the trade.

Again, I would offer this package:

Henry
Carpenter
Austin
Third Round Pick

New Orleans could use a veteran corner and a linebacker. Austin gives them young legs and speed, and the draft pick is thrown in to get them to bite.

I know some people will think I'm crazy, but it is just my opinion. It is a dream trade, but Meachem would be worth it in spades. It would give us the future number one and help now. Plus, it would allow me to promote Hurd to Crayton's role and deal Crayton in 2009. You can dream.

Wow...you are very generous.

Saints fan?

A delusional one at that. Sure, let's give up a guy in Henry, who could possibly one day be our future safety, especially if Roy doesn't get things together. Throw in a possible up-and-coming 6 ft. 3 inch WR in Miles Austin who can stretch the field, plus a former 1st round LB who could still become a gamer for Dallas, or at least be very talented depth. And for chits and giggles, throw em' a 3rd rounder, because who needs those?

All that for a WR who couldn't stay healthy.

Sorry bro, but that is just out there!

I love Meachem's catch/yards/TD stats for last year:

0 / 0 / 0

Yeah, lets break the bank for him.

I'll go ahead and set the over/under at 1. (Remember he will have to split duties at WR and PR)

1 TD during garbage time in the fourth quarter.

The Armendola girls will come spilling out of the stands and carry him on their fragile but fragrant shoulders.

How has he overplayed his potential? He hasn't stepped foot on an NFL field, let alone had a full contact practice.

Get your mind right, the kid is an undrafted, over-rated, receiver from Texas Tech.

My mind is right.

He's beaten the odds at every step...high school, college, and now he's been one of the standouts in an NFL camp. I'm fully aware that he hasn't done anything real yet, but I'm at least giving him the chance to do so.

How is he over-rated? He's done nothing but impress when no one has expected him to. I'd say that makes him the opposite. No one is suggesting he's a pro-bowler here, but rather simply saying that he has a shot at making the roster. How does that make him overrated?

I fail to understand how any one can be anti-Amendola at this point.

No kidding!!! Afterall, he IS a Dallas Cowboy last I checked. Shouldn't we be rooting for him to do well all in an effort to improve the Dallas Cowboys as a whole?

Or is that too much given some in here want other posters to just to be proven wrong?

Is that a normal reaction to constant reports of a Cowboys player being impressive in training camp?

How about you stop being a drama queen.

It hurts to say this, but...............

That was wonderful Theo!

I never thought I would say that. It's a brave new world.

All that for Meachem? You're not crazy, you're nuts!

Besides, Meachem needs to prove he can stay healthy.

No big deal, doesn't Madden have an undo feature?

I liked Meachem for us last year, I could care less that he missed last year. We wouldn't have needed him last year, but it'd be nice to have him this year.

That being said, I'm perfectly happy with Spencer.

One of my friends is a Saints fan and he was all doom and gloom last year about Meachem, saying he was a bust, this and that and I just told him to be patient. We'll see what the kid's got.

Why use the "anti-Amendola" card? I think anyone who doesn't understand he's getting separation, catching most everything catchable, and being praised for his routes and ability to cut is pushing him closer and closer to a roster spot is not paying attention. But I doubt if they are thinking he's a lock for the roster as a lot have already granted him.

Does not giving him a roster spot right now mean you're anti-Amendola?

Shut up Theo.

This thread is not about how well Amendola will do. Its titled how many TDs he will score as if its a foregone conclusion that hes going to score multiple TDs.
