There was a time when Dallas was the talk of the town in free agency periods.
Fans would get all excited because we were gonna be after the biggest names.
Agents used the name "Jerry" to drive prices up all over the league.
Those days are gone my friends.
And that is not such a bad thing.
Not if you desire to actually win games.
It undoubtedly sucks to get worse before you get better.
Your 22 starters dwindles gown to 18, 17, 16... holy moly.
It is scary and it is maddening.
But it is also good business.
Being the first to spend a paycheck is hardly any way to succeed financially.
The Cowboys are finally doing what they'd preach for the players to do.
Be fiscally responsible, make long term plans, budget before you spend a cent.
LOOK FOR VALUE and identify what is truly important.
From a fan standpoint it is definitely hard to stomach.
DeMarco Murray in putrid eagle green? Good grief what a kick in the groin.
But is that reallllly worse than Dallas handing Murray a Marion Barber type deal knowing he's truly had 1 elite season and plays a position where those numbers are rarely if ever duplicated?
Did Dallas really wanna give Bruce Carter guaranteed money? A guy they benched during a contract year?
Were they gonna pay Dwayne Harris 3rd WR money to be a pure special teamer?
So sometimes you gotta stay home and eat hamburger helper.
No where near as fun as wings and burgers at sports bar but you do that 10 times a year and you've saved enough to go to a couple actual games.
Budgeting is very real in the salary cap era.
And the last round of negotiations was won handily by the owners so this particular run under the CBA is different.
We shouldn't be crying because Dallas is handling is differently as well.
I look forward to the draft. I actually have confidence now that we will draft well.
We won't be reaching for the one guy we couldn't get in free agency and instead will grab really good players.
Young guys will play and as the season wears on they will improve.
December will seem like something to look forward to as opposed to something we dread.
Doing the smart thing isn't any guarantee of success but it does really increase your odds.
This Dallas team is odds on NFCE favorites and we haven't even gotten started on adding talent yet.
Try not to fall into the trap of snarky one line negative nancy nonsense.
Our time will come Hopefully in January.
