Have you been watching the level of contracts on players that are being signed by other teams?

The Cowboys have lost Durant, Carter, Parnell, Harris, Melton, and quite possibly, Murray. Durant and Carter played prominent roles on defense, as did Melton.

Look again, most teams DON'T have over two top shelf players on their rosters. Dallas still has about four...but are about to lose Murray.

So 'good' players are very important to a team. Let's just see how musical chairs works for the Philadelphia 'Ducks,' now...with a turn-coat Murray.

OH, I see where this is going...but seriously don't think that a Google for results works... as to locker room changes and continuity of the lower half of just last year's roster.

Durant, Carter, Parnell, Harris, and Melton accounted for 78 million in money. Would you pay those contracts. The bottom part of the roster is churned every year. #Freeagencyproblems

We have a great coaching staff that helps with continuity. We are not doing what the Eagles are. We've lost three starters (one was injured, another one was often criticized until the end of the year) and Murray. Melton was inactive for a couple games because of performance. Parnell was going to get paid and we couldn't afford to bring him back to be a back up. Harris was a difficult loss to me due to how much the guy does. Still life goes on.

If you have a good QB and good OL you will be competitive in just about every game, even if you are running spare parts out there on defense. NE as a prime example.

You're right. We didn't lose anyone who wasn't replaceable. But we didn't add anyone either. People focus so much on saying "So we lost X, but X has these flaws" instead of saying "We didn't add X, and X had these qualities." We weren't good enough last year. We lost our best players (who weren't much to brag about anyway). And we didn't add any much needed talent. You can help yourself sleep at night by saying we didn't waste money on mediocre players. But we don't have a good defense any way you want to spin it.

And another point is the smart accumulation of non-canceling free agents which helps the build up of future compensatory picks as well. This season, the pendulum seems to be swinging towards the favor of the Cowboys. But some real talent was lost as well. That falls back on the draft to overcome.
