Dark horse candidates for DC?

Yup.
.
Why take a chance with anyone else?
Because Flores is probably the least likely of any candidate to be truly on Jerry's radar. Sue the NFL and you basically are suing Jerry. Jerry ain't gonna go for that.

I still feel like Jerry gonna pull a cheap promotion with an internal defensive assistant hire vs anyone outside the organization. Especially with that last comment he made about …”seeing really exciting things from the assistant coaches on staff…”

He's AHC with a great organization and HC now. Hard to see why he'd take a step down to work for this clown show.

I don’t think DC would be a step down . Right now Vance Joseph is the DC . AHC is meaningless in other words if Payton was gone no guarantee Leonhard would be Denver HC . You help turn Dallas D around HC offers will follow .

No way Jose!

1. Just to be clear, I'm not necessarily proposing that this thread only contain dark horse candidates that any one of us endorse. Rather, I'm looking for input on possible less-visible targets, given some line(s) of reason that could make a less-visible coach a legitimate candidate that eventually emerges.

2. Why so? This time last year the guy who became the HC? He only would have ever shown up in exactly this kind of thread.... a dark horse if ever there were a dark horse for HC is who got hired, of course.

3. That all said... I like others who are being mentioned regularly higher on my list than I like Charlie Strong.

But. Charlie Strong does seemingly fit both the explicit criteria as well as some of how this braintrust has ever hired people before.

Do I like him? I like his reputation as a coach that connects with his players. I like that he's been "the man" in some very high profile positions, so the bright lights aren't anything to him. I even kinda like that he's not yet been an NFL head coach, so that would hint that he has some hunger yet to ascend to that, yet he's not a "rebound" guy in the way that Jerry talked yesterday about rebound guys.

So... I will be neither upset nor thrilled if this were to actually play out. I like what I know, and/but I just don't know what I don't know.

He's going to get a HC job -- get real with your expectations. He's going to be the new Raiders' coach. Brady is going to get Flores. He's an outstanding coach. I expect we will see a few more Patriots associated folks join -- Mayo seems a lock
I agree he's more than likely going to stay in Minnesota they're going to pay him plenty,

he's if he doesn't get an HC job this year, he's going to look for one next year ,

but that's the problem,

why would you want to bring in a guy that's going to cost you a lot of money and only be here for one year again I'm taking him off my list just for that he's very low percentage even wants to be A DC anywhere else but Minnesota and he wants to be a head coach very soon therefore take him off your list people...

We keep trying to tell you that on every thread this is the least realistic of all the options out there you can take some of these head coaches that just lost their jobs off the list as well can we please make the real dark horse list which we're trying to keep people from making the same list over and over...

the wish list we've already seen the other list some of them are so unrealistic,

we're never going to get anywhere....

Jim Leonhard is 43 played safety in the NFL and along with Vance Joseph they have one tough defense in Denver . Being in charge of the secondary in Denver Surtain is on another level would love to see Dallas transformed .

In particular could Leonhard as DC get Cowboy DB’s to actually challenge completions .
Id put some money on Leonhard, honestly.

If they were going to do that I don't think they would take this long and you would start hearing smoke he they said they want to try to do something different and I know maybe that intimated hiring from within but I doubt it I think they're going a little younger and they may even pull from the college ranks I don't think they're going full retread like older think, Klayton adams..

But on defense Because Brian Flores He may want to be a head coach and if he doesn't get it this year he stays in Minnesota and tries again next year why would we want a guy that we know might be Next up for a head coaching position when we just went through 2DCS In two years and we're going to be on our third that's three years in a row I think they need some stability there..

So none of the candidates that still have hopes of becoming a head coach soon why would you really even consider them I think they need to consider a little younger and more positional coach off one of these same teams that these other coaches that we have on these lists are from but you go dip into that so you can keep them around at least three seasons You know that's about what probably Schottenheimer has before Jerry gets impatient with him....

Its going to be this.

Its going to be this.
Just like you guys thought that this was going to be a long process for him to get fired, you know moving on from Matt ,and that was untrue, I don't think anybody saw that Brian Schottenheimer would hire guys way outside the norm, like Klayton Adams and Riley to fill out his offensive coaching staff, and there's no reason to do what you guys are implying unless they can't find what they really are looking for ,and that would be a Klayton Adams type, but for the defense...

The only way this happens is if they just miss on anything they truly want of course there's a parachute...

We'll see how this is any different than the Giants I mean they're gonna do retreads it might be Mike Mccarthy it could be Harbaugh But you guys don't like the typical names while other teams are doing it look at the Titans the people they're bringing in for interviews is insane jason Garrett are you serious you all think this is just the Jones family because you like to poke fun at them but this is the NFL the carousel of new coaching hires 75% of which are retreads....

So you have to dip into a much smaller pool looking for this diamond in the rough dark horse and I'm sure they're going to do that and if they can't find it they'll have to go to a typical hire and maybe that is from within but I don't think that's their plan I think you're 100 percent wrong and there's very little chance that can happen and I'm not saying no chance but very very slim that they go that route because it would be the same thing as keeping Matt I do not like if it's anybody that Matt actually hired and brought over that were H his guys we do not want any of them why would you want someone from the Matt Eberflu street?

But the only one I can think of Is whitecotton, I don't think that was a flus hire....

Again I am rejecting this implication and saying is very very slim it happens...

Dang i did not know Strong was that short. Got to be AI.
No, Charlie Strong, the well-known American football coach, is not considered short; he is 5 feet 10 inches (1.78 meters) tall, which is around average to slightly above average height for a man, not typically described as short, notes IMDb and Google Search results.
  • Height: 5′ 10″ (1.78 m).

It's a suicide mission though.

Jeff Hafley, DC in GB came from Boston College and now they are top 10 D. College coaches can coach as well. Perfectly fine finding one there

Jim Leonard is on my list. Just hire him already before someone does.
